This module involves the study of hadith from al-Jami al-sunan al-Tirmidhi. The students will be taught a critical examination of the text (matn) and how to apply the methodology developed in the usul al-hadith module in the previous years.
The Sunan al-Tirmidhi lessons will further expand upon hidden defects of hadith by analysing the works of Daraqutni and others. Furthermore, Tirmidhi manages to bring together an incredible wealth of information about how the Companions, students of the Companions (taba’in) and the early generations of scholars derived law from hadith, or differed with some hadith or reconciled between certain hadith. In this way, the student is empowered with similar tools of analysis as those early generations when engaging with the hadith canon.

Prophet’s ahadith clearly tell us that these two surahs were revealed to seek protection from various types of evils. Ibn Al-Qayyim said that “the effectiveness of these surahs is

"DAILY UMRAH?"
Al-Tirmidhi narrated that Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays Fajr in congregation then sits remembering Allaah until the sun rises, then prays two rak’ahs, will have a reward like that of Hajj and ‘Umrah.” He said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

Calling people to Allaah is one of the most essential duties, and it is the way of the Prophets and Messengers and their followers, namely the scholars, daa’iyahs and reformers. Hoping that you will be able to fulfil the purpose of your da’wah trip and make the most of your precious time with which you seek to earn reward from Allaah .
Fear Allaah (taqwa) and be aware that He is watching you in secret and in public. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fear Allaah wherever you may be…” (narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1910; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 1618). Fearing Allaah is the main thing, and it is the means of being granted strength in this world and reward in the Hereafter. And seek reward with Allaah and have sincerity of intention towards Allaah in all that you say and do. “Actions are but by intentions and every man shall have but that which he intended.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1; Muslim, 3530). These are things which will help the daa’iyah and make his actions blessed, just as fearing Allaah is the main thing, and it is the means of being granted strength in this world and reward in the Hereafter.

We learn from the hadith about the significance of both Surah Al-Falaq and Surah A-Naas. These two surahs are also referred to as “Mu’wadaitain”, which is an Arabic word that refers to the last two surahs of the Qur’aan. Prophet’s ahadith clearly tell us that these two surahs were revealed to seek protection from various types of evils. Ibn Al-Qayyim said that “the effectiveness of these surahs is great to repel magic, evil eye, and the rest of the evils and the need for a slave to seek Allah’s protection from these two surahs is greater than his need for self, eating, driking, and wearing dress” (Al-Fawwaid, 2/426).
Abu Saeed al-Khudri said: “The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.S.) used to seek refuge with Allah from the jinn and from the evil eye until the Mu’wadaitain were revealed, and when they were revealed he started to recite them and not anything else” (narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2058; he said it is hasan ghareeb. Also narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 5494; Ibn Maajah, 3511).
There is another hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Khabeeb who said that, “we got out once on a rainy night and it was very dark and we looked for the prophet (S.A.W.S.) to pray for us and then we found him and he said ‘Did you pray?’ and I didn’t say anything. Then he said, ‘Say’ but I didn’t say anything. Then he said, ‘Say’ but again I didn’t say anything. Then he said, ‘Say’ So, I said, ‘What should I say?’ He said, ‘Qul Hoo wAllahu Ahad and Muwaidaitain when you enter the evening and when you wake up in the morning three times and it will protect you from everything’” (Tirmidhee # 3575), Aby Daud (# 5084).

MAKSUD KATA-KATA AL-TIRMIDHI DAN LAIN-LAIN: “Hadis Hasan Sahih”
KLASIFIKASI AL-BAGHAWI HADIS-HADIS MASABIH AL-SUNNAH

hasan li dhatihi + hasan li dhatihi = sahih li ghayrihi
Martabatnya
Contohnya:
Sebab Dinamakan Dengan Hasan Li Ghayrih
Da’if + da’if = hasan li ghayrih
Martabatnya:

Sebab Dinamakan Dengan Hasan Li Ghayrih
Da’if + da’if = hasan li ghayrih
Martabatnya:

Reading Soorat al-Mulk protects one from the torment of the grave
Reading Surat al-Mulk protects a Muslim from the trials of the grave, but how often does one have to read it? Once a day or more?.
Praise be to Allaah.
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “A soorah from the Qur’aan containing thirty verses will intercede for a man so that he will be forgiven. It is the soorah Tabaarak Alathi bi yadihi’l-mulk [i.e., Soorat al-Mulk].”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2891; Abu Dawood, 1400; Ibn Maajah, 3786.
Al-Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan hadeeth. It was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 22/277, and by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Maajah, 3053.
What is meant is that a person should read it every night, act in accordance with the rulings contained in it, and believe in the information mentioned in it.
It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood said: Whoever reads Tabaarak allaahi bi yadihi’l-mulk [i.e., Soorat al-Mulk] every night, Allaah will protect him from the torment of the grave. At the time of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) we used to call it al-maani’ah (that which protects). In the Book of Allaah it is a soorah which, whoever recites it every night has done very well.
Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 6/179; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, 1475.
The scholars of the Standing Committee said:
One this basis there is the hope that whoever believes in this soorah and reads it regularly, seeking the pleasure of Allaah, learning the lessons contained in it and acting in accordance with the rulings contained therein, it will intercede for him [in the Hereafter].
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 4/334, 335

The Prophet also said: "Knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of God." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 108
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, God will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and (even) the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave (no monetary inheritance), they leave only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion. - Sunan of Abu-Dawood, Hadith 1631
