At What Cost? Basic Economics of a Value Added Tax
Most developed economies rely on a value VAT for a substantial share of their tax revenue, so it is natural for the United States to look at the possibility of implementing a VAT, especially while huge budget deficits are forecast as far out as the forecasts go. While one can debate the merits of a VAT in other countries, the tax is clearly not a good fit for the United States. It would tax a base that has traditionally belonged to state governments, its introduction would bring with it intergenerational inequities, its cumbersome structure would impose large compliance and administrative costs, and it would slow economic growth. Reduced economic growth would diminish tax revenue from all tax bases. This study projects that if the United States introduced a VAT in 2010, its net effect on tax revenue would be minimal by 2030 because VAT revenue would mostly be offset by declines in revenue from other tax bases. Meanwhile, slower gross domestic product (GDP) growth would also mean that government spending as a share of GDP would rise. Why is a Value Added Tax (VAT) wrong for the United States? How much would it cost? What would the unseen or unanticipated effects likely be? Join the Mercatus Center and learn more about this controversial suggestion. Randall G. Global Value Chains in East Asia
www.wto.org 6.06.11 Lamy suggests "trade in value-added" as a better measurement of world trade Director-General Pascal Lamy, in launching the WTO and IDE-JETRO joint publication "Trade Patterns and Global Value Chains in East Asia" on 6 June 2011 at the WTO, said that "by focusing on gross values of exports and imports, traditional trade statistics give us a distorted picture of trade imbalances between countries". "The picture would be different if we took account of how much domestic value-added is embedded in these flows," he said. He explained that global manufacturing has brought a new dimension to the relationship between trade, investments, industrial production and development. "Far from being a zero sum game, trade in tasks proved to be a win-win game for the Asian region," he said. He invited the public to pursue the dialogue virtually, through the WTO "Made in the World" website. Link to the news item: www.wto.org More on the "Made in the World" initiative: www.wto.org

Bill Gross Has Started Getting It
10/04/11 He now understands that economies in the US, EU, and Japan need more stimulus and that capital has been far too favored over workers for far too long. He's also good enough to admit he was wrong about Treasuries tanking earlier this year and that inflation is not our danger.

British Airways Economy Class A319 and B747 GVA-LHR-LAS
I flew from Geneva in Switzerland to Las Vegas, in Nevda, USA on economy class the 5th july 2011 with British Airways. The flight was divided in two parts, my first flight, from Geneva International Airport (GVA, LSGG) to London Heathrow International Airport (LHR, EGLL). This flight was operated with an Airbus A319. The second part of the journey is my second flight, from LHR to Las Vegas Mc Carran International Airport (LAS, KLAS). The flight was operated by a Boeing 747-400. London Heathrow is a really huge and good airport, I really like it. It is my first video like that, so if I can improve my next videos, just let me know what ;) Thank you to sfflyer123! If you have any questions, go ahead! ;-)

2010 Cyclocross GvA "GP Sven Nys" @ Baal - Start And Crash. Looks like the team-mate of Niels Albert gets pushed off his line and his front wheel slips out from under him. He eventually gets up, but I think he lost consciousness for a second when his head hit the ground.
