Holy smokes, they fixed it!
A new batch of brain-melters.
Solid exp., no game changer.
In the beginning of PC gaming time, there was no such thing as an "action-roleplaying game." There were only "Diablo clones," games that copied Blizzard's wildly successful modified roguelike formula of creating a character, earning powers, and gathering loot via bashing creatures in real-time combat. Over time that army of clones (and some Diablo predecessors) congealed into a roleplaying game subgenre, and the term action RPG was born. Given Diablo's importance to the foundation of the genre, it's surprising that Diablo 3 isn't a part of it. Read More »
I hope you guys and gals are ready to be patient, because you're going to have to wait for The Amazing Spider-Man to make its way to PC for another couple weeks. The console version dropped on consoles on Tuesday, but won't be coming to PC until August 10. But hey, according to Activision's Hero HQ page, it'll be coming to Steam! That's a good thing, right guys? Think of all the achievements. Read More »
Yesterday, we met the Pyro. Today, we get to see the world through his eyes. In one final Team Fortress 2 update themed around the masked one, we're getting a slew of new items to use as the Pyro. Most importantly, if you log in between now and July 5, you'll get the Pyrovision Goggles, which allow any class to see the in-game world through the Pyro's eyes, just like in the Meet the Pyro video. Rainbows! Unicorns! Candy! Presents! If you'll excuse me, my Scout has some frolicking to do. Read More »
The first Company of Heroes 2 trailer has arrived, and I'd advise you to temper your expectations. Aside from a single brief shot of a cutscene, you won't find any gameplay footage here. Instead, THQ and Relic opt to set the stage, detailing the enormous conflict on the Eastern Front of WWII, and its unfathomable cost in human life. Begin the enlistment process after the jump. Frozen City, the new map Piranha Games just revealed for MechWarrior Online, is more than just a snowy visual alternative -- it's a game changer. As a BattleMech pilot that struggles to balance unloading on enemies and not overheating, I'm thrilled to learn the sub-zero temps of Frozen City will keep my weapons systems cooler than the other side of the pillow. See how else Frozen City will provide gameplay changes of pace within. Read More »
We loved experimenting with the host of weapons and powers at our fingertips while playing as vengeance-fueled assassin Corvo in Dishonored at E3, so much so that we named it our Game of Show. Now you can see for yourself all the creative options those tools and abilities provide courtesy of the folks at Arkane Studios. The devs have dropped two Dishonored walkthroughs on us today, showing off two very different play styles: stealth and brutal. Enjoy. Read More »
The discovery of Delaware Bay. The first successful flight of a jet propelled airplane. My buddy Doug being born. These historic events all took place throughout the years on August 28, and now you can add one more to the list: the release of Guild Wars 2. Speculate and search no more. NCSoft and ArenaNet finally revealed the launch date of their anticipated MMORPG this morning. Read More »
Wow, really? I thought we were past such things by now, but it looks like TERA didn't get the memo. Today on the official TERA website they announced that starting today, players can drop $25 on a Night Mare (get it? Mare? Horse?) to ride around the lands of TERA. This is equivalent to a guy showing up at a house party today with Zima and a blazer with shoulder pads. Read More »
Well, that's fortunate. In this third dev diary, the World of Warplanes dev team assures us that the gameplay will be interesting and stuff. Ah, it relieves me to know developers are actively seeking out ways to make their games anything but unenjoyable, because we sure do have a lot of Iteration of Generic Shooter Part Four: Modern Boredoms already. Bring on the sky shooters! Read More »
You know when you wake up and sit down at your PC in the morning and Steam just starts downloading stuff and you're all "Whuh?" but then you have fully updated games just moments later, all without the faintest amount of effort on your part? Yeah, this is why we're happy Tribes: Ascend has wound its way to the self-updating, laziness-enabling Steam platform -- and just in time for a new update we didn't need to hit a single button to download, too. Slow clap. Though we've all been well acquainted with the masked arsonist of Team Fortress 2 since 2007, Valve has finally gotten around to making formal introductions with the long-awaited Meet the Pyro video. Take a look into the terrifying mind of the masked madman below. Also, there's a surprise at the end: Valve has finally taken the wraps off of the tool it's used to create its Team Fortress 2 videos, the Source Filmmaker, and is now accepting requests for invites from the public to try it out. Could this be the start of a major Source-based machinima revolution? Read More »
A gently encouraging and welcoming round of applause for this PC exclusive, yeah? ShootMania Storm is doing the usual videogamey things: a gameplay trailer dropped today, and it's also gone and opened itself up for beta registrations. Gosh, I just love that name. Nothing else screams "Hello! I am a videogame!" quite like ShootMania Storm (though Bonestorm and Kill Stuff With Lasers come pretty close). Read More »
So how is Ghost Recon: Future Soldier running on your PC? If you're among the many posters on the official Future Soldier Bugs Report forum thread, not very well at all. From mouse and keyboard controls going kaput to, FPS, resolution, and graphical issues, it appears the Ghosts' next mission should be a bug hunt. Read More »
Holy sugar! I'm sorry. I shouldn't start my day with an implied swearword, but you'll understand -- wake up to something like this, and all semblance composure and eloquence is out the window, with "this," of course, being the most news-like thing to come out of Valve for quite some time... An unofficial Valve fansite has received and posted what it claims are leaked pieces of concept art for Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Deep breaths now. Read More »
In the sweaty rush and crush that is E3, I managed to miss a number of games big and small, and one I seriously wish I saw is Carrier Command: Gaea Mission. Developer Bohemia Interactive (Operation Flashpoint) is helping to fill in the blanks today with a video of its E3 presentation -- a video that details a stellar looking RTS and action game hybrid that I can't wait to take for a spin.
