NASA Puffin Low Noise, Electric VTOL Personal Air Vehicle
Conceptual design focusing on the ability of a redundant electric propulsion system to provide new capabilities for Vertical Takeoff and Landing aircraft. Specifically utilizing electric motor variable rpm to accomplish a low tipspeed prop-rotor (400 ft/sec tip speed at hover and 200 ft/sec at cruise) to accomplish an order of magnitude reduction in community noise for close proximity operations (30-40 db reduction). The variable rpm capability also achieves a 25% improvement in prop-rotor efficiency through operation at optimal advance ratios.

Aesir Coanda-effect VTOL UAV
Aesir video of its prototype vertical take-off and landing unmanned aircraft, which uses the Coanda effect to generate lift by blowing air from a central fan over its curved surface. Aesir was formed to develop the UAV when original developer GFS Projects ran out of money - GFS stood for Geoff's Flying Saucers, named after original designer Geoff Hatton. See www.aesir-uas.com. Ryan X-13 Vertijet Experimental VTOL Air Force Aircraft - Vertical Take Off And Landing
AviationExplorer.com - The Ryan X-13 Vertijet (company designation Model 69) was an experimental Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft flown in the United States in the 1950s. The main objective of the project was to demonstrate the ability of a pure jet to vertically takeoff, hover, transition to horizontal forward flight, and vertically land. Just after World War II, Ryan engineers wondered whether the Ryan Navy FR-1 Fireball, which had a thrust-to-weight ratio of 1 at low fuel quantities, would take off vertically. The Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics in 1947 awarded Ryan a contract to investigate the development of a vertically launched jet fighter. This was part of a program to evaluate the feasibility of submarine-based aircraft. Ryan conducted remote controlled VTOL tethered rig tests from 1947 to 1950 and a flying rig in 1951. Ryan was awarded an Air Force contract in 1953 to develop an actual flying jet-powered VTOL aircraft, which was given the designation X-13. Two prototypes were built. The Ryan X-13 Vertijet was 23 ft 5 in (7.14 m) long. It was just large enough to accommodate the single place cockpit (with a tilted seat) and the 10000 lbf (45 kN) thrust Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet. The high mounted delta wing of the aircraft had a wingspan of only 21 ft (6.4 m) and was capped with flat endplates. The nose of the aircraft had a hook on the underside and a short pole for gauging distance from the trailer. The hook was used to hang the Vertijet from the vertical ...

Pulsejet Engine Vertical Launch - VTOL Pulse Jet Rocket
www.PulseJetEngines.com Pulsejet engine vertical launch - VTOL vertical take off and landing rocket Pulsejet engines have been overlooked as a propulsion system because most people think they are low power and inefficient. Pulsejet engines actually have quite high power to weight ratios, comparable fuel consumption to RC turbines, and have few or no moving parts, meaning they cost about 1 as much as a hobby turbojet and rarely need any form of maintenance. This is a video of an old demo we did, to show the potential of pulsejets. The engine is an old 1960's era dynajet, which is not anywhere near optimized, yet it still has impressive lift performance. Sitting on the ground most people dont see the potential these engines have, and are content with saying they are useless, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Pulsejets could be used on anything from RC hobby hovercrafts and RC VTOL planes, to small UAV's, and many other things. Dont forget to hit subscribe and check out our channel for tons of other cool stuff!

Chinese VTOL UAV VMA-01
An interesting new UAV designated as "VMA-01" made by the Chengdu Aircraft Cooperation, most well-known for being the developer of the J-20 stealth fighter and the J-10 fighter jet. This UAV seems to be very light weight and features VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing), as well as folding wings and a small EO ball for optical reconaissance. This video shows this UAV's exceptional manoeuvrebility and its convenient take-off and landing capability, making it potentially useful for short-range tactical reconaissance by special operations forces and recce units.

Aurora Excalibur VTOL UAV First Flight
Aurora Flight Sciences video of the first flight of its Excalibur experimental vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aircraft. The 13ft-long UAV is powered by a tilting jet engine and three battery-powered lift fans. The aircraft made its first hover flight, lasting just under 2min, at Aberdeen proving Gorund in maryland on June 24. Excalibur is a proof-of-principle testbed for a 400kt VTOL unmanned combat aircraft. (This is a slightly different version of the video previously uploaded - my apologies.)
