Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla are a Hindi Bollywood director duo. They are known for directing films in the thriller and action genres. They have frequently cast Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna in their films. Since Khiladi, the brothers have cast Johnny Lever in every single one of their movies except Aitraaz Naqaab and Taarzan: The Wonder Car. The duo direct landmark Bollywood films like Khiladi, Baazigar, Soldier, Ajnabee, Baadshah, Aitraaz, Humraaz, 36 China Town and Race.

Early life and career[link]

Abbas, Mustan, and their third brother Hussain (last name Burmawalla) are from Surat. Their family was in the furniture business, but Abbas-Mustan wanted to do something different in life. They met their uncle S.D Kura who used to do film editing in Hindi movies. He advised them to first do film editing then go for film direction. Gradually they joined Sultan Ahmad as assistant director who was directing the movie Saugandh (1978), and they also joined as assistant director with Govindbhai Patel. They did few films, and then when Patel refused Gujarati film Sajan Tara Sambharana (1985), Abbas-Mustan got chance to do their first film as director, and it was a hit.

After Abbas-Mustan's film journey began as director, they made some Gujarati films and then stepped into Hindi cinema. The first Hindi film they did was Agnikaal with Jeetendra, Raj Babbar and Madvi in 1990. Since then, they have directed 14 Hindi movies. They also started their own production house called Burmawalla Partners.

The duo are renowned for taking inspiration from Hollywood films and adding glamour to it.

Komal Nahta is the editor and publisher of "Film Information", India's largest film trade journal. The Asian Development bank(ADB) has appointed him advisor for its film financing division, the first person from the film industry to be so appointed. On 26 April 2010, Nahta replaced Taran Adarsh as the host of ETC Bollywood Business on the indian TV channels ETC (India) and Zee Cinema (UK). The show airs daily on weekdays at 8:30 pm in India^[3] and at 7:30 pm in the UK. On Mondays, the show is about the previous fridays collections. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Nahta speaks to various artists from the film industry. Thursdays preview films releasing on Friday. On Fridays, Nahta will be review films released on that day.^[4][5] The show launched the first episode with Sajid Nadiadwala as the guest. He is also the Editor of Entertainment website www.koimoi.com^[6] He has also given a special appearance in the 2010 comedy, Tees Maar Khan, along with Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Akshaye Khanna.

Early Work (2004–05)[link]

Before starting her career off as an actress, Sonam and Ranbir Kapoor worked as assistant directors under Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2004, and assisted him during the making of his film, Black which was released in early 2005.^[6]

Film Debut & Breakthrough (2007–09)[link]

She made her acting debut alongside newcomer, Ranbir Kapoor in Bhansali's Saawariya (2007), which failed to do well at the box office,^[7] but her performance opened to good reviews by critics.^[8]

In 2009, Kapoor appeared in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi-6, opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The film flopped at the box office and received mixed critical reviews, but her performance was praised. Critic Rajeev Masand commented, "Sonam Kapoor is the revelation in Delhi 6. She's a firecracker performer, instinctive and uninhibited in what isn't even a conventional female lead".^[9] Sonia Chopra, film criric from Rediff commented, "Sonam Kapoor is an earnest and effortless performer so she does make you like the character somewhat, despite the typical Delhi-girl recipe".^[10]

Initial Success (2010–present)[link]

In 2010, she appeared in Punit Malhotra's I Hate Luv Storys opposite Imran Khan. The film went on to become her first box office success.^[11][12] She also appeared in the romantic comedy, Aisha, opposite Abhay Deol, which was declared a below average performer at the box office.^[13][14]

Kapoor's first release in 2011, Thank You was a critical failure, although the film was an average grosser at the box office.^[15] The same year, she made an appearance at the 64th Cannes Film Festival representing L'Oréal, the brand she endorses in India.

Her second film of the year was the romance film Mausam, in which she and co-star Shahid Kapoor had four different looks representing each of the four seasons. The film received mixed reviews and was a failure at the box office.^[16] However, Sonam's performance was appreciated by most prominent critics. Taran Adarsh commented, "For Sonam, MAUSAM will prove to be a turning point in her career. Astonishing -- that would be the right word to describe her work this time around. The confidence with which she handles the distinct characterization speaks volumes".^[17]

Her first release of 2012 is Players, a remake of The Italian Job, alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and Neil Nitin Mukesh. The film received mixed to negative reviews and didn't do well at the box office. At the moment, she's busy shooting for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag with Farhan Akhtar and Raanjhnaa with Dhanush of "Kolaveri Di" fame.^[18]

Early life[link]

Mukesh was born in Mumbai to Bollywood playback singer Nitin Mukesh and Nishi Mukesh. He was named by Lata Mangeshkar after astronaut Neil Armstrong as his father was a big fan of his. After attending Greenlawns High School in Mumbai, he graduated from HR College with a Bachelor's degree in Communications. He did a 4-month workshop with Kishore Namit Kapoor and also at Anupam Kher's institute during his college vacation. He also assisted Kunal Kohli in his film Mujhse Dosti Karoge while still in college.

Career[link]

As a child artist, Mukesh appeared in Vijay (1988) and Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni (1989). He received several offers as a lead actor before his acting debut as an adult, but as he did not want to debut with a love story, he chose to wait for the right role. It was then that Sriram Raghavan offered him Johnny Gaddaar ^[1][2] Although the movie did not do well at the box-office, his acting was appreciated.

His next films were Aa Dekhen Zara, New York and Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail.^[3] He also appeared in Yash Raj's Lafangey Parindey.

He was praised for his latest film 7 Khoon Maaf. Directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, it starred Priyanka Chopra alongside John Abraham, Irrfan Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Annu Kapoor. Priyanka played the role of a woman who has seven husbands of which the youngest one is being played by Mukesh.^[4]
