Leicester Tigers 25-50 Saracens - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 4 | 24-09-11
Six-try Saracens silence Welford Road Charlie Hodgson starred as Saracens crushed under-strength Leicester Tigers 50-25 at Welford Road for a third consecutive win in the defence of their Aviva Premiership Rugby title. Share Hodgson scored a try, three penalties and three conversions, while back-row forward Ernst Joubert claimed two tries as Saracens made light of their own problems with injuries and World Cup absences. Saracens underlined their dominance with a three-try burst early in the first half and had too much power and experience for the hard-working Tigers in what was a one-sided re-match of last season's final. The result leaves Leicester, who were without 16 first-team squad players, with just one win from their opening four matches, while Saracens' third consecutive win came despite having eight of their top players away on World Cup duty. Saracens began the match in ominous fashion, with Hodgson kicking three early penalties to one by Twelvetrees as the visitors opened up a 9-3 lead. Premiership Rugby's all-time top scorer then grabbed a nicely worked try, which he converted to make it 16-3. At that point, Leicester's under-strength side were acquitting themselves well but struggling to cross the advantage line, relying heavily on some smart clearing kicks by young fly-half George Ford to relieve the pressure. Twelvetrees did notch his second penalty just before the half-hour mark, but a sudden rash of missed tackles cost his side dear moments later, as ...

Saracens 19 v 24 Harlequins Official Highlights 31-03-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby
George Lowe scored one try and saved two others as Harlequins produced an heroic defensive performance to beat Saracens 24-19 in front of a world record crowd and extend their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table. Lowe is on Stuart Lancaster's list of potential England stars of the 2015 Rugby World Cup and the 22-year-old Harlequins centre proved why on the biggest stage club rugby has ever seen, with a crowd at Wembley of 83761. After Jordan Turner-Hall's try had put Harlequins ahead, Lowe produced a top class finish to score his side's second of the afternoon and Danny Care added their third after the break. Saracens then threw the kitchen sink at Harlequins but Lowe kept the Aviva Premiership Rugby champions out with brilliant try-saving tackles on Michael Tagicakibau and Chris Wyles in the space of three minutes. Harlequins were under siege and had three men sin-binned - Joe Marler, Care and Nick Easter - as they weathered wave after wave of Saracens attacks. Richard Wigglesworth finally stole over when Marler and Care were both off the field and Owen Farrell added the conversion to his four first-half penalties. That was enough to secure Saracens the losing bonus point and move them back up to second place - but Harlequins held out for the victory to open a six-point lead at the top. This attendance beat the previous world record club attendance of 82208, which was set in the 2009 Heineken Cup quarter-final between Leinster and Munster at Croke Park ...

The official Youtube channel of Premiership Rugby with exclusive news, match highlights, player profiles and more. Leicester skipper Geordan Murphy ended Saracens' unbeaten home record with a sensational drop-goal with the last kick of a gripping Aviva Premiership Rugby game. Sarries were heading for victory at Vicarage Road when Tigers launched an astonishing 26-phase attack that ended with the Ireland full-back's goal. Saracens' last home defeat was to Exeter - in October 2010, and their overall record over 52 weeks is 32 wins from 36 games. The first set-piece after 58 seconds left Leicester down to 14 players. Lock Ed Slater was sin-binned following a mid-air clash that saw Saracens number eight Jackson Wray fall heavily to the ground. But Alex Goode's penalty attempt drifted just wide of the right hand post. Inspired by Schalk Brits, Saracens took their game to a Leicester side armed with more of their regular Test stars than their hosts. And the pressure told in the 10th minute with Thomas Waldrom penalised for not releasing. It was a simpler kick than his first, but Goode's second penalty attempt rebounded off the upright. Leicester showed how it was done with their first shot at goal, awarded when Goode was tackled and failed to release. Toby Flood made no mistake with a spot-on kick after 12 minutes. Saracens repeated attempts at counter-attacking failed, but then so did Flood's second attempt on goal, a long-range effort after Carlos Nieto blocked Thomas ...

Newcastle Falcons 3-9 Saracens - Official Highlights 20-04-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby
Saracens head to semis, Falcons face nervous weekend Saracens clinched a place in the Aviva Premiership Rugby semi-finals with a brutal 9-3 victory over Newcastle at Kingston Park. Three penalties from the boot of Owen Farrell took Saracens into second place in the table while Jimmy Gopperth's solitary strike gave the Falcons a crucial losing bonus point in front of a crowd of 8011 - Newcastle's biggest of the season. The Falcons did have real chances to win the game at the death and Saracens were hanging on but that bonus point cut the gap between Newcastle and Wasps to just three points - Wasps visit Bath on Saturday. Saracens lost England centre Brad Barritt with a leg injury during the warm-up, with Farrell moving to number 12 and Charlie Hodgson coming in at fly half. There was little to choose between the sides in the opening 10 minutes and not much between them at half-time, with Farrell landing just one of three kicks at goal for Saracens to lead 3-0. But it was a half that Saracens dominated against some determined Newcastle tackling. An offside in the 11th minute gave Farrell his first opportunity but he was short from 45 metres. Hodgson kept up the pressure with a little dink through but the ball ran into touch and, although Newcastle did not clear it too well, Saracens then overthrew at the line-out and Newcastle were able to break out to the safety of the halfway line. Saracens moved into the lead when Jon Golding failed to roll away in the tackle and Farrell ...

Saracens 40 v 22 Exeter Chiefs | Official Highlights | 05/05/12
Saracens gave a convincing second-half performance to run out comfortable 40-22 winners over Exeter at Vicarage Road. The home side trailed 10-9 at the interval but two tries early in the second half gave the hosts the impetus they needed. The bonus-point victory was not enough to secure Saracens a home semi-final in the Aviva Premiership Rugby play-offs because of Leicester's home win over Bath, and they now face a difficult trip to the Tigers next weekend for a place in the final. Exeter, who had already secured their place in next season's Heineken Cup prior to today, were first on the scoreboard when Gareth Steenson gave them a third-minute lead with a 35-metre penalty. The opening exchanges were littered with errors with only an excellent run from James Short enlivening the proceedings. The Saracens wing collected a poor kick from Kevin Barrett to race past Phil Dollman but the move petered out as a result of a wild pass. The hosts had their first chance for points but Owen Farrell was wide with a 45m attempt but minutes later the outside half was successful with a similar kick to bring the scores level after 12 minutes. When Short carelessly knocked on in his own 22, the Chiefs had an excellent opportunity to score the first try but Sireli Naqelevuki was knocked into touch two metres short. However, Saracens again knocked on at the ensuing lineout and from the resulting scrum, Tom Johnson forced his way over under the posts for a try which Steenson converted ...

Leicester Tigers 18-22 Saracens | Aviva Premiership Rugby Final | 28-05-11
Saracens survived a Leicester onslaught in a riveting finale at Twickenham to win their first ever Premiership title. Tigers, four points down, went through 32 phases before winning a penalty six minutes into injury-time, but Sarries then won one of their own to prevail. Saracens led 16-9 at half-time after a try from wing James Short, Owen Farrell converting and adding three penalties. His fourth put Sarries 19-9 up but two more from Toby Flood, either side of a fifth from Farrell, saw a nervy finish. For a game that climaxed in one of the most nailbiting endings ever seen in a Premiership final it started rather timidly, as both teams opted to sound each other out through the boot. But it came alive on four minutes when a searing break by Schalk Brits put Neil de Kock into space and almost took him to the line. When the ball did not emerge from the resulting ruck referee Wayne Barnes pulled Ben Youngs aside and sent the England number nine to the sin-bin for killing the ball. With fewer than five minutes gone Tigers were a man down and three points behind when Farrell landed the resulting penalty from the 22. With centre Anthony Allen deputising at scrum-half Tigers went on the offensive and a huge up and under from Flood, brilliantly gathered by Matt Smith, put them on the front foot. Alesana Tuilagi and Martin Castrogiovanni made some hard yards into the Sarries 22 before Tigers won a penalty, which Flood converted to make it 3-3 with 10 minutes on the clock. But the ...

London Irish 19-28 Saracens - Official Highlights 14-04-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby
Saracens cruise past Exiles to maintain play-off push Delon Armitage marked his return to the London Irish starting line-up with two tries - but they were not enough to save the Exiles from their seventh successive Aviva Premiership Rugby defeat as they lost 28-19 to Saracens. Armitage, who had been on the bench for the previous two matches, struck in each half for Irish, whose other nine points came from three Tom Homer penalties. Saracens won the match on the back of an immaculate kicking display from England fly-half Charlie Hodgson. He landed five penalties from five attempts, struck two drop goals and converted Sarries' only try, scored by flanker Will Fraser. But the victory was not enough to stop the reigning Aviva Premiership Rugby champions dropping from second to third as Leicester moved above them with their bonus-point win at Northampton earlier in the day. Homer kicked Irish into the lead in the seventh minute with his opening penalty. Saracens drew level three minutes later following a powerful rolling maul off the back of a lineout. Referee Martin Fox allowed the visitors to play the advantage after the back-pedalling Exiles pack transgressed and Hodgson's superbly-executed drop goal ensured there was no need for the penalty kick. Homer restored the home side's lead with a 15th-minute penalty after Saracens strayed offside. He made it 9-3 with his third after 19 minutes when prop Matt Stevens, who was having a tough afternoon against England squad-mate Alex ...

London Wasps 17-22 Saracens - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 14 | 11-02-12
Saracens hold off battling Wasps Alex Goode scored 17 points with the boot for Saracens in their 22-17 win at Adams Park to inflict a seventh successive Aviva Premiership Rugby defeat on Wasps. Full-back Goode, back from duty with England Saxons, slotted five penalties to make sure the defending Aviva Premiership Rugby champions, who were guilty of failing to make superior possession tell, at least secured victory with some comfort. Wing James Short was the only man to cross the tryline for Sarries. The victory puts Saracens three points behind leaders Harlequins, while Wasps hold a nine-point gap over bottom club Newcastle going into a run of tough matches against Exeter, Sale and London Irish. Saracens were without five England internationals but they dominated the first half, with veteran Irish scrum-half Peter Stringer ubiquitous and industrious, and were unlucky to not be more than two points up after 40 minutes. Wasps looked more lively in the second period as scrum-half Joe Simpson - who only arrived back from Rome on Sunday morning after acting as a non-playing reserve for England in Italy - joined the fray with 10 minutes gone. Wasps showed 10 changes to their side as an injury crisis showed signs of abating, and they made an encouraging start as number eight Billy Vunipola and hooker Tom Lindsay crossed in the first 22 minutes. Vunipola made some battering runs from the base of the scrum during the opening minutes and popped up on the left to take Riki Flutey's ...

Saracens 26-19 Bath Rugby - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 13 | 08-01-12
Farrell sees Saracens close gap at the top Saracens moved closer to Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders Harlequins with a 26-19 win over Bath that kept the champions second in the table. Owen Farrell kicked 16 points but missed another 12 in a hard-fought victory to mark the 2000th Aviva Premiership Rugby game since Bath and Newcastle played the first on August 23rd, 1997. And it was clearly a big day for the likes of Charlie Hodgson, Farrell, David Strettle and Brad Barritt of Saracens, all the subject of England selection speculation in recent weeks. Equally, Bath duo Matt Banahan and Dave Attwood will have had Six Nations selection in mind on the back of last week's impressive 30-3 victory over London Irish. But it was All Black fly-half and World Cup winner Stephen Donald who struck first in the fifth minute, finishing off a series of attacks by Bath sparked twice by scrum-half Michael Claassens and aided by Nick Abendanon. Donald gathered a loose ball and darted between the posts then added the conversion. Saracens had an opportunity to get on the board in the ninth minute when French referee Pascal Gauzere penalised Bath for collapsing a scrum. But Farrell's penalty rebounded off the left-hand upright and was cleared. Saracens lacked their usual sharpness during the opening exchanges whereas Bath threatened with ball in hand and forced their hosts to display their renowned defensive qualities a number of times during the opening 15 minutes. Heineken Cup 2011/12: Treviso-Saracens
Heineken Cup 2011/12: Treviso-Saracens
HCUP - Matchday6 - Benetton Treviso vs Saracens (22.01.12) Saracens scraped past Treviso 26-20 at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo on Sunday, to book themselves a home quarter-final the Heineken Cup. Saracens needed to take home just one point from their visit to Italy, but were made to work overtime for their win with things not quite going according to the script. The hosts - unbeaten at home this season in the Heineken Cup - led 17-13 at half-time, outscoring the Aviva Premiership champions two tries to one thanks to number eight Robert Barbieri and wing Tommaso Iannone crossing the whitewash. Treviso pivot Kristopher Burton added the two conversions as well as a drop-goal in the first forty minutes, while Saracens kept themselves afloat through a try by lock Mouritz Botha in with Owen Farrell contributing the rest of his sides points from the boot to trail by four at the break. And with Biarritz dominating proceedings against Ospreys in the other Pool 5 clash, Saracens were at risk of bowing out of the tournament if the French side bagged five points and Treviso denied their visitors any points at all. However, Saracens made the best start possible in the second half after Botha charged down a Treviso clearance that allowed wing David Strettle to collect and weave his way through for a vital score converted by Farrell to put the visitors in front (20-17). Burton levelled the scores with his first penalty shot, but Farrell found his target once more for a three-point lead ...

Owen Farrell - Saracens | Aviva Premiership Player of the Month
Owen Farrell - Aviva Premiership Player of the Month Owen Farrell is a rugby union player (born 21 September 1991) currently playing for Aviva PremierShip Rugby side Saracens. He is Andy Farrell's son. His primary position is centre, but he often plays flyhalf/centre. He held the record of youngest ever player to appear in English professional rugby union after playing for Saracens 11 days after his 17th birthday, in a 26--17 home defeat against Llanelli Scarlets in the EDF Energy Cup on 5 October 2008,[2] until this record was broken in November 2009 by Leicester's George Ford, the son of another former Rugby League international (Mike Ford). In the 2010--11 season, Farrell signed for Bedford Blues on loan. However, he returned to Saracens and was pivotal in the 2010-11 Aviva Premiership Final kicking five penalties and converting James Short's try for a personal haul of 17 points in the 22-18 victory over reigning champions Leicester Tigers. Saracens 18-12 Northampton Saints - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 17 | 04-03-12
Marksman Hodgson ends Saracens losing streak Charlie Hodgson did little to harm his chances of an England recall with six penalties in a narrow 18-12 Saracens victory over Northampton that reduced Harlequins' lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table to four points. Ryan Lamb, who replaced Stephen Myler five minutes from time, rescued a losing bonus point for Saints with a 79th-minute penalty. Saracens welcomed back captain Steve Borthwick, out for six weeks with a torn calf muscle, and fly-half Hodgson, who missed the Six Nations defeat to Wales with a hand injury. Tom Wood, out injured since January 6th, was on Northampton's bench. Flanker Wood appeared to be England head coach Stuart Lancaster's original choice to captain the national side during the Six Nations before suffering a fractured big toe. Myler kicked off low towards what looked close to a waterlogged Saracens 22, and was offered the opportunity to open the scoring six minutes later, but pushed his penalty wide. Referee David Rose penalised Saracens again three minutes later for pulling down a maul, and this time Myler managed to steer his kick inside the left-hand post. Hodgson equalised in the 12th minute after Northampton were guilty of tackling Ernst Joubert while he was in the air. He then gave Sarries the lead in the 16th minute after referee Rose deemed Saints had failed to roll away from a tackle on the edge of their 22. It required a fine tackle by Duncan Taylor to prevent Scott Armstrong ...
