David Stephen Caruso (born January 7, 1956) is an American actor and producer. He may be best known for portraying Lieutenant Horatio Caine on the TV series CSI: Miami. The role that gained him initial significant recognition was the role of Detective John Kelly on the ABC crime drama NYPD Blue.

Early life[link]

Caruso was born in Forest Hills Gardens, Queens, New York, New York,^[1] the son of Joan, a librarian, and Charles Caruso, a magazine and newspaper editor.^[2] He is of Irish and Italian (Sicilian) descent.^[3] His father left when he was two years of age, forcing him to "end up fathering myself", as he put it.^[4] Raised as a Roman Catholic,^[5] Caruso attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic School in Forest Hills.^[6] He later attended Archbishop Molloy High School in nearby Briarwood, graduating in 1974.^[7]

He worked as a cinema usher, where he would see up to eighty movies a week.^[4] He said they would act out scenes from some of these movies while they were up the back. It was in this job he found his role models in Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney and Edward G Robinson.^[4] He said:

The ethics of certain actors certainly had a power over me. These guys taught me how to be what I call a stand up kind of guy.^[4]

1980s[link]

His first film appearance was in the 1980 film Getting Wasted as Danny. Caruso then spent most of the next decade in film supporting roles, appearing in such films as First Blood, An Officer and a Gentleman, Blue City, Thief of Hearts and China Girl. Caruso credits his role as Daniels, "the cadet who nearly drowned", in An Officer and a Gentleman as what got him noticed.^[1] Caruso also appeared in Twins. On television, he had a recurring role as Tommy Mann, the leader of the street gang The Shamrocks on Hill Street Blues in the early 1980s. He made a two-episode appearance on the television series Crime Story which ran from 1986 to 1988 on NBC. In 1984, Caruso portrayed U.S. Olympian James Brendan Connolly in the NBC miniseries The First Olympics: Athens, 1896.

1990s[link]

Caruso had supporting roles in the crime films King of New York (1990) and Mad Dog and Glory (1992). While filming 1991's Hudson Hawk, Caruso employed method acting, refusing to talk to anyone on set because his character, Kit-Kat, was mute, having had his tongue bitten off.^[8]

Caruso's first major role was in 1993 as Detective John Kelly on the series NYPD Blue, for which Caruso won a Golden Globe Award. TV Guide named Caruso as one of the six new stars to watch in the 1993–94 season. He made news by leaving the highly rated show the following year (only four episodes into the second season) after failing to obtain the raise he wanted.^[9][10] He was unable to establish himself as a leading-man in films despite starring in the crime thriller Kiss of Death, which was critically well-received but did not perform well financially. He also appeared in Jade (1995), which flopped critically and at the box office. In a 2010 issue of TV Guide, Caruso's decision to leave NYPD Blue was ranked #6 on a list of TV's ten biggest "blunders".^[11] In the first episode of South Park, ("Cartman Gets an Anal Probe") Kyle tells his brother Ike to "do your impersonation of David Caruso's career" to get Ike to jump out of a spaceship.

In 1997, Caruso returned to television as a New York City-based federal prosecutor in the short-lived CBS law drama series, Michael Hayes, which aired for one season.

2000s[link]

Caruso returned to film with a supporting role as Russell Crowe's mercenary associate in the film Proof of Life in 2000. In 2001, he had a lead role in the horror film Session 9.

From 2002 to 2012, he has starred as Lieutenant Horatio Caine in the popular CSI spin-off series CSI: Miami. He was the first actor in the franchise to appear as the same character on all three CSI programs. On CSI: Miami, Caruso is known for frequently using one-liners at the beginning of each episode. Many of these include him putting on his trademark sunglasses mid-sentence, then walking off-screen just as the main theme starts (finishing move). On an episode of the Late Show with David Letterman that aired on March 8, 2007, comedian Jim Carrey professed to being a fan of the show and went on to satirically impersonate Caruso. Carrey asked for an "intense close-up" from the camera, spoke in a deep voice and put sunglasses on. Caruso later said in an interview with CBS that he was impressed with the impersonation.^[12]

Personal life[link]

Caruso has a daughter, Greta^[5] (born June 1, 1984), with his second wife, Rachel Ticotin. In 1994, (according to court record) ex-girlfriend Paris Papiro filed a palimony suit. Caruso paid an undisclosed sum in early 1995.^{[citation needed]} He and former girlfriend Liza Marquez have two children together: a son, Marquez Anthony (born September 15, 2005), and daughter, Paloma Raquel (born October 16, 2007). In April 2009, Marquez filed papers suing Caruso for fraud, breach of their settlement agreement and emotional distress.^[13] He resides in Los Angeles and Miami with his girlfriend, Amina Islam.

In March 2009, an Austrian woman was placed in custody in Tyrol, Austria, on charges of stalking Caruso; she had twice failed to appear in court to answer the charges before fleeing to Mexico; following her deportation from Mexico, Austrian officials took her into custody to await trial on the stalking charges.^[14]

Mattias "IA" Eklundh (born 1969 in Gothenburg, Sweden) is a guitarist and vocalist, known for his work with the bands Freak Kitchen, Frozen Eyes, Fate, The Jonas Hellborg Trio, and Art Metal; he has also released several noted solo albums.^[2] He was also prominently featured playing his trademark-style solos on 3 Soilwork albums.

Biography[link]

Mattias began drumming at the age of six; when he was thirteen, he began playing guitar. He has named Frank Zappa and Kiss as his two major musical influences, but his record collection also included gypsy jazz, Miles Davis, and Slayer among many others.^[3]

In the mid-80's, Mattias joined the band Frozen Eyes, a few years later he quit because their manager was holding their money, and they never had a good share of it, until mattias did the math. Frozen Eyes split up soon after their self-titled album was released in 1988 and Mattias subsequently joined Danish metal band Fate as lead guitarist. Mattias appears on their 1990 album Scratch 'n Sniff. He later returned to Sweden, forming his own band Freak Kitchen in 1992 with former Frozen Eyes drummer Joakim Sjöberg and bassplayer Christian Grönlund.^[4] The band played together for 8 years, until Sjöberg and Grönlund left in 2000, only to be replaced by Christer Örtefors and Björn Fryklund.

Outside of Freak Kitchen, Eklundh has recorded several solo albums, and made appearances as a guest musician for Swedish heavy metal bands like Evergrey and Soilwork. His two Freak Guitar solo albums are released on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label, and include drawings and other artwork by friend Anders Nyberg. In 2005, he grouped with Swedish bass guitarist and composer Jonas Hellborg in the Jonas Hellborg Trio along with drummer Niclas Campagnol and played their first gig in Mumbai, India and followed with a tour of India. His album "Freak Guitar - The Road Less Traveled" features a rock/metal-like remix of not title theme, but the background theme from the 1985 film Fletch.

He also annually hosts and teaches at the Freak Guitar Camp. Mattias Eklundh endorses Caparison guitars, who make his signature Apple Horn guitar, and Yamaha Guitars for the company's unique Silent Guitar electroacoustic. He is also a long time user of Laney amplifiers, currently using a VH100R. Russian manufacturer AMT Electronics have created a signature overdrive/distortion pedal for Eklundh called the Freak Guitar. Recently, Mattias Eklundh became a devoted Kelstone user.

Samantha Jade Gibbs, commonly known as Samantha Jade (born 18 April 1987), is an Australian R&B, pop singer-songwriter, former child model, and budding actress from Perth, Western Australia. She has co-written songs for artists such as Ashley Tisdale ("Positivity") and JoJo ("Secret Love"). Jade released two singles under Jive Records including "Step Up", the title track for 2006 film of the same name, but the scheduled album was not released. "Step Up" reached the United States Pop 100.

Early life[link]

Samantha Jade Gibbs was born on 18 April 1987 and grew up with two younger brothers Thomas and Alex in Perth, Western Australia. She began modelling at the of age four and at nine-years-old, she won a talent show after singing "Amazing Grace".^[1] Jade retired from modelling.^[1] She attended Hampton Senior High School. In 2003 the Gibbs family moved to Los Angeles in order for Jade to pursue her singing career.^[2] That year, a song she co-wrote, "Secret Love", was recorded by JoJo for the soundtrack of the 2004 film Shark Tale.

2006–present[link]

Samantha Jade performed the title track to the 2006 film Step Up; the single appeared on the Billboard Pop 100 chart for one week, charting at number 92.^[3] A second single, "Turn Around", was released in 2007 but failed to chart. Jade co-wrote one track, "Positivity", on Ashley Tisdale's 2007 album, Headstrong,^[4] and sang backup vocals. Her debut album, My Name Is Samantha Jade, was planned for release in 2006,^[1] but was not issued. In 2007 she was featured on the track with André titled "Come Back".

Jade made her film debut in the Eye of the Dolphin sequel,^[5] Beneath the Blue, which was released in 2009.^[6] The music video for Jade's next single, "Secret", was released on 22 July 2009 and was directed by Valerie Babayan.^[7]

In 2009 she recorded a track with David Guetta and Laidback Luke for David Guetta's fourth studio album, One Love, released August. The track did not make the cut though can be featured as a bonus track on certain releases.
