ICANN 46 to be Held in Beijing

Rod Beckstrom, ICANN President and CEO and Minister Wang of the State Council Information Office (SCIO) of China on December 7, 2011 in their historic meeting after which Prof. Xiaodong Lee was appointed Vice President of Asia Pacific for ICANN. Minister Wang stated, "Prof. Lee is now the bridge from China and Asia to ICANN and the world," and expressed his support for ICANN. Reports of this meeting and its key messages appeared on 180,000 web pages in Chinese. It was a pivotal moment in the evolution of ICANN's relationship with China and the Chinese Internet community. Selecting Beijing, China's capital city, for a public ICANN meeting is a result of the deep cooperation and collaboration of ICANN and Chinese Internet community developed over the past three years under Rod Beckstrom's leadership.
