Jets Season Ends - New York Post
The 2008 New York Jets season was the 49th season for the club and the 39th season in the National Football League. The team succeeded in improving upon their 4–12 record from 2007, but did not make the playoffs.
The Jets used a large amount of salary cap room to make several high-profile acquisitions in the offseason. On February 29 the team signed former Pittsburgh Steelers left guard, Alan Faneca, to a five-year, $40 million contract. The deal made Faneca the highest paid offensive lineman in the National Football League. The Jets then signed former Arizona Cardinals linebacker, Calvin Pace, to a six-year, $42 million deal. Pace had 6 ½ sacks in 2007, and was considered to fit well with the Jets' 3–4 defense. The Jets continued to attempt to improve the offensive line by signing Detroit Lions right tackle Damien Woody to a five-year $25.5 million contract.
Other notable free agent signings included fullback, Tony Richardson; cornerbacks, Andre Woolfolk & Ty Law; tight end, Bubba Franks; and running back, Jesse Chatman.
New York (/njuː ˈjɔrk/; locally IPA: [nɪu ˈjɔək] or [nuː ˈjɔɹk] ( listen)) is a state in the Northeastern region of the United States. New York is the 27th most extensive, the 3rd most populous, and the 7th most densely populated of the 50 United States. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and by Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Rhode Island east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Ontario to the west and north, and Quebec to the north. The state of New York is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City.
New York City, with a population of over 8.1 million, is the most populous city in the United States. Alone, it makes up over 40 percent of the population of New York state. It is known for its status as a center for finance and culture and for its status as the largest gateway for immigration to the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, New York City is also a destination of choice for many foreign visitors. Both the state and city were named for the 17th century Duke of York, James Stuart, future James II and VII of England and Scotland.
York (local i/ˈjɔːk/) is a walled city, situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities.
The city was founded by the Romans in 71 AD, under the name of Eboracum. It became in turn the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and of the kingdoms of Northumbria and Jorvik. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained.
In the 19th century York became a hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy.
Rex Ryan (born December 13, 1962) is an American football head coach for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). After serving as an assistant coach for twenty-two years, Ryan attained his first head coaching job in the NFL with the Jets in 2009. He is the son of former Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals head coach Buddy Ryan and is the twin brother of Rob Ryan, defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.
Upon accepting the position with the Jets, Ryan became well-known throughout the league for his outspoken manner, boisterous attitude and success with the Jets which has included back-to-back AFC Championship appearances in the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Players have expressed their interest in playing for Ryan because of his player-friendly attitude. Ryan is also known for his highly esteemed defenses which often feature "relentlessness [and] unpredictable mayhem founded on his premise that 'whatever you do best, we're going to take away from you.'"
Rex Ryan, and his fraternal twin, Rob, were born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on December 13, 1962 to Doris and Buddy Ryan. When the boys were aged two, their parents divorced. Following the divorce, his mother attended the University of Chicago to earn her doctorate. Rex then moved with his mother to Toronto, Canada where she secured an administrative position at the University of Toronto. During the course of his upbringing, Rex wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, a defensive pioneer in the NFL known for developing the 46 defense, and by age six both boys knew they wanted to pursue coaching careers.
Brett Lorenzo Favre (born October 10, 1969) is a former American football quarterback who spent the majority of his career with the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He was a 20-year veteran of the NFL, having played quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons (1991), Green Bay Packers (1992–2007), New York Jets (2008) and Minnesota Vikings (2009–2010). Favre is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 70,000 yards, over 500 touchdowns, over 300 interceptions, and over 10,000 pass attempts. He officially retired on January 17, 2011.
Favre started at the quarterback position for the University of Southern Mississippi for four years before being selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by Atlanta (33rd overall). He was traded to Green Bay on February 10, 1992, for the 19th pick in the 1992 NFL Draft.
Favre became the Packers' starting quarterback in the fourth game of the 1992 season, and started every game through the 2007 season. He was traded to the New York Jets and started at quarterback for the 2008 season before signing with the Vikings on August 18, 2009 as their starting quarterback. He made an NFL record 297 consecutive starts (321 including playoffs).
Chorus:
It's a new season, it's a new day.
A fresh anointing is flowing my way.
It's a season of power and prosperity.
It's a new season coming to me.
Verse 1:
The devil's time is up no longer can he bother me,
'cause the Creator of the universe He fathers me,
and it's transferable my children's children shall be free;
it's a new season (it's a new season).
If you don't know by now, you need to know it's jubilee,
where debts are cancel and your children walk in victory.
It's so available to you right now just taste and see,
it's a new season (it's a new season).
Verse 2:
The new millennium presents a new horizon,
and no greater time for us to make a choice and take a stand.
All that we need, is resting in His hands;
it's a new season (it's a new season).
All that was stolen is returned to you a hundred fold,
Tried in the fire but you're coming out gold.
Cling to His hand,
yes, to every promise take a hold;
it's a new season (it's a new season)
Ending:
It's a new season it's a new day
A fresh anointing is flowing my way
It's a season of power and prosperity
It's a new season coming to me
The devil's time is up no longer can he bother me
Cause the Creator of the universe He Father's me
And it's transferable my children's children shall be free
It's a new season it's a new season
All that was stolen is returned to you a hundred fold
Tried in the fire but you're comin' out gold
All that was stolen is returned to you a hundred fold
Tried in the fire but you're comin' out gold
Cling to His Hand Yes to every promise take a hold
Winter is over, I see it now, my first rebirth
A new family member, a lot of teeth are in his smile
God’s given flesh
Winter is over, We see it now, a new day has come
Spring fruits grow inside my hands, Fall is not here just to blame us now
Come into to my passing seasons
Spring fruits grow inside my hands, Fall is not here just to blame us now
Rain drops are falling, feeding life
The first cry of life, it sounds like a forgotten name
Winter is over, We see it now, a new day has come
A new day...
Invent a new past, for me. Invent a new life, for us
Have you ever felt the birth of seasons
So tell me how, tell me how it feels
A new season is coming, a new time, a new life, for me...
Blame, it's a new season
Darker days behind us
Future looks so bright again
There were times I thought it was over now
Now I know I never want it to end
No I never want it to end
Never want it to end
No I never want it to end
Too many times this was it
This is all I ever had
Know I now there's more there for me
Now I know I never want it to end
No I never want it to end
Never want it to end
No I never want it to end
Keep Pushing
Keep playing
The sky's the limit
With my boys on my side
Nothing we can summit
Keep Pushing
Keep playing
The sky's the limit
With my boys on my side
Nothing we can summit
Now I know I never want it to end
No I never want it to end
Never want it to end
No I never want it to end
Keep Pushing
Keep playing
The sky's the limit
With my boys on my side
Nothing we can summit
Keep Pushing
Keep playing
The sky's the limit
With my boys on my side
