A glorious morning in crowded Aizawl, Mizoram
A glorious morning in crowded Aizawl, Mizoram, India. One can barely imagine that this concretized vertical state capital occupying every square inch of hillside space is that of Aizawl! Some of the buildings appear to be seven and eight storeys tall... One wonders if a proper earthquake analysis has been done in the region prior to allowing such unbridled construction! See the big cross on the hill-top and the sound of buses screeching to a halt at the bus-stop. The capital state as well as the largest city of Mizoram is Aizawl; the center of all important government offices, state assembly house and civil secretariat.Aizawl is also the main religious and cultural centers of the Mizos, the ethnic tribe of Mizoram. The city lies just north of the Tropic of cancer and is located at 3715 feet from the sea level. A birds eye view of the city will sure catch the attention of the beholder. Some of the notable places once you get to Aizawl city are Mizoram State Museum, Durtlang Hills, Mini Zoo, Bara Bazar, Luangmual Handicarfts Centre and Berawtlang Tourist Complex. Apart from these tourist sites, the nearby tourist attractions are Bung, Paikhai, Tamdil lake, Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary, Kolasib, Vantawng waterfalls, Champhai, Phawngpui, Saiha and Lunglei. courtesy: mizoram.nic.in Thisfootage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of imagery from South Asia. Within the walls of Mizoram's Taj Mahal!
"If Agra has the Taj Mahal as testimony to the immortal love of Emperor Shahjahan, Aizawl now has no less grand a monument ? the KV Paradise. On the top of a hill in Durtlang, overlooking Aizawl, stands a grand edifice eternalising love ? a dream in marble that K. Chhawnthuama has built as a memorial to his wife. The founder of KV Multipurpose School in Aizawl, Chhawnthuama still cannot forget the day when his wife Rosanpuii Varte, a popular teacher of the school, was killed in a car accident. ?The disaster of my life occurred on November 27, 2001. We were planning to go abroad. She was an enthusiastic traveller and prior to the tragedy, she had suggested we save money for the trip. We managed to save Rs 31 lakh for the purpose. But when she was gone, I found I had no use for the money. It was then that I decided to build a memorial in her name,? K. Chhawnthuama explained. Lavish in its construction, Chhawnthuama spared no expense to create one of the most spectacular buildings in Mizoram. So much so that it is already being described as a sort of Mizo Taj Mahal. In Mizoram, never has the mortal remains of anyone been housed in greater grandeur. KV Paradise, as a tomb, has no peer. ?I think I have done everything for her. In life I gave her my heart, my love. After her life ended, I still wanted to give her the best,? said the bereaved 53-year-old. KV Paradise was built at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The lighting alone costs Rs 6 lakh. The granite and marble flooring came all ...

Wondrous Kolasib Wonderful People - Mizoram, NE India
Kolasib is a wondrous city built high on the side of the mountain, in Mizoram, a Northeastern State of India, between Bangladesh and Myanmar (Burma). Its people are wonderful, peaceful and happy in their family and community life together. It is amazing how they build their homes perched on timber columns on the steep mountainside. They speak the Mizo language as you will hear in this video. They eat a wholesome mix of foods, which are very tasty, as you will see. There are many christians in Kolasib, who look forward to Jesus Christ's return and the setting up of God's Government on this Earth.

Burma's Chin Refugees in Mizoram State, India
(Washington, DC) April 1, 2012 — The Chin people in Mizoram State, India, live in a protracted, urban refugee situation and face daunting problems related to protection, livelihood, health, and education. While many of them have been there for years, new arrivals continue to flee into Mizoram, including many youth who are fleeing forced conscription by the Burmese military. Since 1988, tens of thousands of Chin people have fled from Chin State, Burma, seeking refuge in neighboring Mizoram State, India. Fleeing the widespread and persistent ethnic, political, and religious persecution by the Burmese military regime, their numbers in Mizoram have grown to an estimated 100000. The Chins seeking refuge make up almost 10% of Mizoram's population, which is 95% Christian. While Mizoram is known in India for its natural beauty and high literacy rate, the state is less well known to people outside of India. Mizoram is a landlocked, mountainous state among the remote seven northeastern states of India. The northeastern states are connected to the rest of India by a narrow strip of land between Nepal to the north and Bangladesh to the south. Chins in Mizoram State have for the most part been out of sight and out of mind for the international community. We have been moved by the courage, resourcefulness, and deep faith of the Chin people and encouraged by the compassion, hospitality, and deep faith of the people in Mizoram. Our hope is to be a catalyst for concerned governments ...

A dancing family in Mizoram!
Kids of the family singing, playing and dancing together, in the family living room - much the size of a hostel recreation hall! Not often do we hear of the practice of polygamy being promoted in Indian society, but in Tlangnuam Baktawng village of Serchhip district, it's quite the opposite. Forget the idea of a man getting married to more than one woman; here a man marrying even a dozen women is not such a big deal! An hours' drive away from Aizawl - the capital city of Mizoram, is Tlangnuam Baktawng village which houses about 300 households and 2000 followers of the Christian denomination known as the 'Lalramkawngpuizawhtu'. Under this sect, a man is allowed to have more than one wife or solemnize plural marriages on the basis of mutual consent, understanding, respect for each other and most of all -- love. The principle of 'Lalramkanwgpuizawhtu' bears a similarity with theMormon fundamentalism orThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Both the doctrines are associated with advocacy of polygamy. However, the principal no longer holds to mainstream Mormon followers today. The term 'Lalramkawngpuizawhtu' in the local Mizo dialect means 'The followers of God' and their place of worship is called 'Hnamthlanrunpui'. The head honcho of this Christian sect is Ziona, a 67 year old practicing polygamist man surrounded by a gaggle of women round the clock. Not only is he the leader of the church, but also the head of the largest family in the world! According ...
