Scanlation (also scanslation) is the scanning, translation, and editing of comics from a language into another language. Scanlation is done as an amateur work and is nearly always done without express permission from the copyright holder. The word "scanlation" is a portmanteau of the words scan and translation. The term is mainly used for Japanese comics (manga) and Chinese comics (manhua), although it also exists for other national traditions on a lesser scale. Scanlations may be viewed at websites or as sets of image files downloaded via the Internet.
Frederik Schodt describes having "dreamed of [manga translation] as far back as 1970 or 1971" . Subsequently Schodt, Jared Cook, Shinji Sakamoto, and Midori Ueda formed a group named Dadakai. Schodt referred to Dakadai as "really the beginning of manga translation", however described these efforts as "way too early" because they could not get anything published. One of the manga Dadaki licensed was Osamu Tezuka's manga titled "Phoenix", and the translation was later published by Viz Media from 2002 to 2008. The amateur press association (APA) was the first formally organized form of manga scanlation. Their major period of activity occurred during the late 1970s through the early 90's. Scanlation groups began forming in Europe before the United States translating into their respective languages; the largest of which was the French.
Hunter × Hunter (Japanese: ハンターハンター, Hepburn: Hantā Hantā, stylized as HUNTER×HUNTER) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. It has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since March 3, 1998, although the manga has frequently gone on hiatus since 2006. As of December 2012, 340 chapters have been collected into 32 tankōbon volumes by Shueisha. The story focuses on a young boy named Gon Freecss, who discovers that his father, who he was told was dead, is actually alive and a world-renowned Hunter, a licensed profession for those who specialize in fantastic pursuits such as locating rare or unidentified animal species, treasure hunting, surveying unexplored enclaves, or hunting down lawless individuals. Despite being abandoned by his father, Gon departs upon a journey to follow in his footsteps, pass the rigorous Hunter Examination, and eventually find his father. Along the way, Gon meets various other Hunters and also encounters the paranormal. The original inspiration for the manga came from Togashi's own collecting hobby.

My scanning process! I tear apart and scan Kami-sama Hajimemashita from my own personal magazine. It can be a lengthy process but it can be rewarding when you see how many people truly enjoy the work you put in. Of course, I am only one piece of the scanlation puzzle, but everyone is an important part of the team. Yes, this is a reupload. I found some spelling errors and some music errors I wanted to fix. :) ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆ DRAWING! I currently have two (2) 40th Anniversary calendars for 2014 from Hana to Yume! After meticulously re-reading the Dark Continent arc of the Hunter x Hunter manga with both the official VIZ releases and the unofficial scanlation releases of the chapters, it becomes immediately obvious that to get proper enjoyment and comprehension out of this story arc, the VIZ translations are essential. I compare and contrast merely two chapters of the Hunter x Hunter manga (341 and 342), though this sort of comparison could go on indefinitely with the same conclusion arising. Also, I just want to say I'm SO PUMPED that Hunter x Hunter is finally back from hiatus and the incredible Dark Continent arc is finally continuing! This is shaping up to be the grestest arc out of the entire manga thus far! Music is from the Hunter x Hunter (2011 Anime) Soundtrack: Boys, Be Courageous! Lege...
