The National Meteorological Library holds a specialised collection of books, reports and journals related to meteorological and related sciences. While most of the library's collection is 20th century material, some historical documents - particularly statistical climate data for Australia - date from the 1850's. The Library has been functioning since the creation of the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology in 1908.
The National Meteorological Library:
- Maintains a pre-eminent collection of key meteorological books and journals published in the English language;
- Aims to archive meteorological books and reports published in Australia;
- Provides a high quality information service to staff of the Bureau of Meteorology, government agencies, universities, others with a particular interest in the science of meteorology, and to the general public.
