Mike Henry (voice actor)

Michael "Mike" Henry (born March 25, 1964) is an American actor, producer, screenwriter, singer, voice artist, and comedian, best known for his work on Family Guy, where he is a writer, producer, and voice actor. He provides the voices for many characters including Cleveland Brown, Herbert, Bruce, and Consuela. Starting with the series' 5th season, Henry had received billing as a main cast member. In 2009, Henry, Richard Appel, and Seth MacFarlane created a spin-off of Family Guy called The Cleveland Show (which aired on FOX and MuchMusic) to focus on Cleveland and his new family, until the show's final new episode (due to cancellation) on May 19th, 2013. Reruns of the show later aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Early life

Henry and his younger brother Patrick were born to artist parents and raised in Richmond, Virginia. Henry's parents divorced when he was 8 years old and he was primarily raised by his mother. He attended Collegiate School in Richmond where he liked to imitate pitcher Walter Johnson during varsity baseball game warm-ups. He later attended Washington and Lee University. While his brother was attending the Rhode Island School of Design, Henry acted in his short films and met Seth MacFarlane.

Mike Henry is an American political strategist and current Chief of Staff to United States Senator Tim Kaine.

In 2011, former Gov. Kaine tapped him to run his Senate campaign. From 2009 to 2011, he was senior director of U.S. Field of Bono's The ONE Campaign, a global advocacy and campaigning organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, by raising public awareness and working with political leaders to support effective policies and programs that save lives. He was responsible for guiding strategic grassroots initiatives. He worked to create political will in key congressional districts for bipartisan global poverty and disease-fighting legislation, helped expand ONE’s grassroots membership, mobilized bi-partisan political and business leaders, and raised awareness of global poverty issues.

Henry also worked in national-level politics, serving as deputy campaign manager of Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, famously writing a memo that was later leaked to The New York Times outlining a controversial strategy suggesting that Clinton skip Iowa, a politically risky move.

Football career

Henry's football career as a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1958–1961) and the Los Angeles Rams (1962–1964) led him to be noticed by Warner Bros..

Acting career

His most prominent role was as Tarzan in three 1960s movies, Tarzan and the Valley of Gold (1966), Tarzan and the Great River (1967), and Tarzan and the Jungle Boy (1968), that were all filmed back-to-back in 1965. Henry turned down the lead of the subsequent Tarzan television series, which then went to actor Ron Ely.

Henry is also best known to movie audiences for playing Jackie Gleason's dim-witted son "Junior" in the Smokey and the Bandit films opposite Burt Reynolds and Sally Field, after portraying a corrupt prison guard (opposite Reynolds) in The Longest Yard (1974). Another football-playing role, as Tatashore, was as one of the members of the gang who kidnap "Larry Bronco" (Larry Csonka) in the "One of Our Running Backs is Missing" episode of The Six Million Dollar Man. Henry also portrayed Sergeant Kowalski in The Green Berets (1968), Luke Santee in More Dead Than Alive (1968), corrupt sheriff "Blue Tom" Hendricks in Rio Lobo (1970), and Lt. Col. Donald Penobscott in an episode of the television series M*A*S*H. He also acted opposite Charlton Heston in three films - the football movie Number One (1969), Skyjacked (1972), and Soylent Green in 1973.
