11 The Fatimid Dynasty in Egypt & the return of Europe
www.youtube.com Historian Basil Davidson looks at the splendour of Old Cairo under the Shia Fatimid dynasty. He details how the return of Europe to prominance following its long period of backwardness and slumber (aka the Dark Ages) was founded upon the economic stability of Afria - as seen in the fact that European gold coins were mindted in African gold. We also see how Euroepan Renaissance art depicted Africans as dignified equals, much as the ancient Greeks had. www.lincoln.edu

The Fatimid Caliphate or al-Fātimiyyūn was an Arab Shi'a dynasty that ruled over varying areas of the Maghreb, Egypt, Sicily, Malta and the Levant from 5 January 909 to 1171. It was the fourth and final Arab caliphate. The caliphate was ruled by the Fatimids, who established the Egyptian city of Cairo as their capital. The term Fatimite is sometimes used to refer to the citizens of this caliphate. The ruling elite of the state belonged to the Ismaili branch of Shi'ism. Fatimids Glory of Shi'a Arab
The Fatimid Caliphate or al-Fātimiyyūn (Arabic الفاطميون) was an Arab Shi'a dynasty that ruled over varying areas of the Maghreb, Egypt, Sicily and the Levant from 5 January 909 to 1171. The leaders of the dynasty were also Shia Ismaili Imams, hence, they had a religious significance to Ismaili Muslims. They are also part of the chain of holders of the office of Caliph, as recognized by most Muslims, the only period in which the Shia Imamate and the Caliphate were united to any degree, excepting the Caliphate of Ali himself. With exceptions, the Fatimids were reputed to exercise a degree of religious tolerance towards non-Shi'a sects of Islam as well as towards Jews, Maltese Christians and Coptic Christians.

Fatimid Art & Architecture
Fatimid architecture In architecture, the Fatimids followed Tulunid techniques and used similar materials, but also developed those of their own. In Cairo, their first congregational mosque was al-Azhar mosque ("the splendid") founded along with the city (969973), which, together with its adjacent institution of higher learning (al-Azhar University), became the spiritual center for Ismaili Shia. The Mosque of al-Hakim (r. 9961013), an important example of Fatimid architecture and architectural decoration, played a critical role in Fatimid ceremonial and procession, which emphasized the religious and political role of the Fatimid caliph. Besides elaborate funerary monuments, other surviving Fatimid structures include the Mosque of al-Aqmar (1125) as well as the monumental gates for Cairo's city walls commissioned by the powerful Fatimid emir and vizier Badr al-Jamali (r. 10731094). Al-Hakim Mosque (990-1012) was renovated by Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (head of Dawoodi Bohra community) and Al-Jame-al-Aqmar built in 1125 in Cairo, Egypt features with its Fatimi philosophy and symbolism and bring its architecture vividly to life. "The Fatemi rulers in North Africa and Egypt made the masjid the focal point of the uninterrupted flow of both the water of life and water of learning. They fostered noble traditions of thought and philosophy. They Produced and preserved an immense wealth of literature. They founded Cairo and Al-Azher university. Islamic art goes on sale at Christie's
400 pieces of extremely rare Islamic and Indian art went to auction through Christie's, London in October 2008. The auction fetched over £10 million but it also offered members of the public a chance to see items that are normally hidden away in private collections. The main attraction was a thousand year old ewer carved from a single piece of rock crystal. It is one of only seven of its kind known in the world. But earlier in the year, it was mistaken for a cheap French claret pitcher and valued at a mere US$350. Later however, it was discovered that the slim-necked vessel was made for the court of the Cairo-based Fatimid dynasty, which ruled a large part of the Middle East and North Africa between the 10th and 12th Century. The ewer is worth almost US$5.3 million.

Night At Al-Hakim
A short clip taken in Al-Hakim Mosque ( en.wikipedia.org ) at night using a Canon Powershot A610. The clip has been shot by Ahmad Eddeeb. The al-Hakim Mosque is a major Islamic religious site in Cairo, Egypt. It is located in "Islamic Cairo", on the east side of Muizz Street, just south of Bab Al-Futuh (the northern gate). It is named after Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985-1021), the sixth Fatimid caliph and the first to be born in Egypt. The Mosque was originally built as an enclosure by the Fatimid vizier Gawhar Al-Siqilli (c.928-992), but was incorporated into the extended fortifications built by Badr al-Gamali. It consists of an irregular rectangle with four arcades surrounding the courtyard. An unusual feature is the monumental entrance with its projecting stone porch. The most spectacular feature of the mosque are the minarets on either side of the facade, reminiscent of the propylon to a pharaonic temple. Originally the two minarets stood independent of the brick walls at the corners. These are the earliest surviving minarets in the city and they have been restored at various times during their history. The massive salients were added in 1010 to strengthen their structure, and the northern minaret was incorporated into the city wall. Inside, these strange structures are hollow, for they have been built around the original minarets, which are connected with brackets and can still be seen from the minaret above.

[HQ] Banu Hillal Epic - تغريبة بني هلال
Khalifa al-Zanati (Arabic: خليفة الزناتي) was the Berber king of Tunis and one of the main characters in the Bani Hilal epic. The epic says that during the siege of Bani Hilal to Tunis he asked their knights for duels every day and killed many of them, not even Abu Zayd al-Hilali was able to defeat him. His destiny was to be killed by Dhieb bin Ghanim who thrust spear into his eyes. The epic also says that one of the reasons of his defeat was the betrayal of his daughter Sadaa who fell in love with Maree, one of the Hilalian princes who were captive in her fathers prison. Abu Zayd Ibn Rizq Al-Hilali (Arabic: أبو زيد ابن رزق الهلالي, Ābu Zayd al-Hilalī) was a 11th century Arab leader and hero of the 'Amirid tribe of Banu Hilal. On the orders of the Ismaili Fatimid caliph, Abu Zayd moved his tribe to Tunisia via Egypt to punish the Zirids for adopting Sunniism. The Banu Hilali weakened largely the Zirid state and sacked Kairouan. The event was fictionalized in the epic Taghribat Bani Hilal. In the epic it is said that he was murdered by his rival Dhieb bin Ghanim. read more: [ar] tinyurl.com [ar] tinyurl.com

I've captured Tarabulus some time ago and now it's the 2nd time they tried to take it back :D as you can see these islamic units already using Broken Crescent units and skins (from HURB submod), then adjusted with Real Combat 2.0 (unofficial), I think there's some bug with HURB submod but it's not really gamebreaking, a fair trade with the features it offers :) AI still suck at besieging, hopefully I can record more awesome field battles.... I love this game, one of the very few games that I can still enjoy after many years due to gameplay, setting and mods :)

WORLD ARCHITECTURE - ISLAM: From Baghdad to Córdoba HENRI STIERLIN Book Number: 68714 Product format: Hardback Covering stunning architecture from the 7th to the mid 13th century, to the western eye, cities such as Jerusalem, Mecca, Baghdad or Cairo can seem utterly alien. It is not only the way of life that is unfamiliar, it is also the astoundingly varied architecture. This volume surveys more than six centuries of Islamic architecture, placing mosques, Koran schools and palaces in their cultural, religious and political contexts. Stainless Steel 6.3: The Kingdom of Jerusalem vs Fatimids (Tough Battle)
Here on Stainless Steel, i decided to make a tough battle between the best units from the Kingdom of Jerusalem vs the best units from the Fatimids. All units from both sides are max skilled in Experience & Fighting but since i wanted it to resemble a battle of the Crusades, i didn't want my knights in plate armor, so i made all my KoJ units on level 1 in Armor & level 2 Armor for the Fatimids. The Muslims outnumbered mine by some 600 men & were slightly more armored but i had the Holy Cross Standard & the Canons of the Holy Sepulcher in which both helped to balance the fight. My Hospitallers on the left wing of my frontline were being battered down & my whole left flank was weakening untill i sent 2 units to support them, but to the contrary, my right wing & center hacked their way through & although my Cavalry Knights took many casualties they still managed to slaughter their heavy cavalry & got them to their infantry attack from behind. This is the reason why i like to battle with both armies max skilled or nearly max skilled, cos the majority of the men from both sides will stay & fight till they win or die rather than retreat, in fact only a very few retreated when most of their army was wiped out.

8 26 1071 Battle of Manzikert The Seljuk Turks defeat the Byzantine Army at Manzikert
Although the Byzantine Empire had remained a strong and powerful entity in the Middle Ages,[9] the Empire began to decline under the reign of the militarily incompetent Constantine IX and again under Constantine X—a brief two year rule of reform under Isaac I Komnenos only delaying the decay of the Byzantine military.[10] It was under Constantine IX's reign that the Byzantines first came into contact with the Seljuk Turks, the latter attempting to annex Ani in Armenia. Yet, Constantine IX secured a truce between Byzantine Empire and the Seljuks. The truce lasted until the year 1064 when Seljuks conquered the Armenian capital at Ani.[9] Constantine X (successor to Isaac Komnenos) did much discredit to his predecessor—in 1067 Armenia was taken by the Seljuks, followed by Caesarea.[11] In 1068, Romanos IV took power and after a few speedy military reforms he entrusted to Manuel Comnenus to lead an expedition against the Seljuks, allowing him to capture the city of Hierapolis Bambyce in Syria. A Turkish attack against Iconium was thwarted when a Byzantine counter-attack from Syria ended in victory.[5] Yet, the campaign ended in a debacle when Manuel was defeated and captured by Seljuks. Despite the failure of the Byzantium campaign, Alp Arslan had been quick to seek a peace treaty with the Byzantines; he regarded the Fatimid Caliphate of Egypt as his main enemy and had no desire to engage with the Byzantines in unnecessary hostilities.[3] Hence, a peace treaty is signed ...

SAUDI ARABIA: Fatimid Leader Sheik Makrami in ceremonies with provincial Governor
HELP THE CAUSE PLEASE DONATE! www.paypal.com Fatimid leader, Shaik Makrami of the Sulaymani's, hosting a ceremony in Najran, with provincial saudi governor. The Sulaymani's, a small shia sub-sect who are native to the southern najran region, which forms part of greater yemen, have long been repressed by the wahabi state in the saudi capital of riyadh, over theological differences. the world's longest serving religious prisoner, is himself from najran, and a sulaymani fatimid. in recent years, due to fears of secession, and revolts that could spread throughout the kingdom, saudi king abdullah has reached out to the community, and eased restrictions and oppression. However, massive bigotry still exists, alongside a lack of economic development for the region. Sulaymani's are free to practice their sect's belief only in najran province, and not anywhere else in the wahabi kingdom. This has brought condemnation from the united states state dept. in its annual human rights report, and us secretary of state hillary clinton in recent months. حفل مكرم ويام وهمدان نجران

Saladin's Castle (Syria)
The Fortress of Sayun (Château de Saône) was renamed Fortress of Saladin in 1957 to honor the sultan who conquered it in 1188. This castle has its origins in the 10th century, when the region formed part of the eastern boundary of the Byzantine Empire, which was confronted by the Fatimids, the Mirdasids and later the Seljuks, who all erect defensive structures based on the experiences of the Umayyads, Abbasids and early Byzantines. The Qal'at Salah El-Din, even though partly in ruins, retains features from its Byzantine beginnings in the 10th century, the Frankish transformations in the late 12th century and fortifications added by the Ayyubid dynasty (late 12th to mid-13th century).

Medieval 2 Total War - Kingdom of Jerusalem vs Egypt
My first video create in cinematic editor - Kingdom of Jerusalem vs Egypt. Music from movie Kingdom of heaven. Please watch and rate) The Kingdom of Jerusalem was a Christian kingdom established in the Levant in 1099 after the First Crusade. It lasted nearly two hundred years, from 1099 until 1291 when the last remaining possession, Acre, was destroyed by the Mamluks. Egypt : During the initial Islamic invasion in 639 AD, Egypt was ruled at first by governors acting in the name of the Righteous Caliphs, and then the Ummayad Caliphs in Damascus but, in 747, the Ummayads were overthrown and the power of the Arabs slowly began to weaken. Although Egypt remained under the nominal rule of the Abbasid Caliphate, its rulers were able to establish quasi-independent dynasties, such as those of the Tulunids and the Ikhshidids. In 969 the Ismaili Shi'a Fatimid dynasty from Tunisia conquered Egypt and established its capital at Cairo. This dynasty lasted until 1174, when Egypt came under the rule of Saladin, whose dynasty, the Ayyubids,
