The natural caesarean: a woman-centred technique
The natural caesarean: a woman-centred technique
Although much effort has gone into promoting early skin-to-skin contact and parental involvement at vaginal birth, caesarean birth remains entrenched in surgical and resuscitative rituals, which delay parental contact, impair maternal satisfaction and reduce breastfeeding. We describe a 'natural' approach that mimics the situation at vaginal birth by allowing (i) the parents to watch the birth of their child as active participants (ii) slow delivery with physiological autoresuscitation and (iii) the baby to be transferred directly onto the mother's chest for early skin-to-skin. Studies are required into methods of reforming caesarean section, the most common operation worldwide.

Cesarean Section (C-Section)
This 3D medical animation shows a normal cesarean section (c-section) surgery to deliver a baby in frank breech (feet first) position. Two types of incisions are clearly shown; a low vertical incision and the more common low transverse incision (bikini cut). The baby and placenta are both removed through the uterine incision. The incision on the uterus and abdomen are then both closed. Item #ANS00178

Anna Nicole Smith - complete cesarean video
Anna Nicole Smith - complete cesarean video
If you think a cesarean is "just another way to have a baby", think again. She's not unique -- women aren't "allowed" to talk about these birth experiences so we don't hear about it -- they are labeled ungrateful and whiners and mentally ill so they suck it up and pretend its all ok. At least she was honest about what it was like to be gutted. Everyone is thrilled with a healthy baby but that doesn't change what happened to her or the baby. If you have a cesarean, this could be you, even if you had a "wonderful" experience the last time. This is NOT birth, this is major surgery with inadequate anesthesia. It isn't beautiful, it is a horror movie. Think about Anna Nicole and her "womb busting" 6# baby when your OB says you have to have surgery or you and your baby will die. *Nobody* deserves to be tortured like that and then have it minimized.
