Judd Hirsch (born March 15, 1935) is an American actor most known for playing Alex Rieger on the television comedy series ''Taxi'', John Lacey on the NBC series ''Dear John, and ''Alan Eppes on the CBS series ''Numb3rs''.

Personal life

Hirsch was born in the Bronx, New York, the son of Sally (née Kitzis) and Joseph Sidney Hirsch, an electrician. Hirsch was raised Jewish and his father was an immigrant from Russia. Hirsch attended De Witt Clinton High School and later earned a college degree from the City College of New York in physics. He was married to his first wife from 1956 to 1958. He married Bonni Sue Chalkin in 1992 and divorced her in 2003. Hirsch has three children: Alexander, born 1966, Montana Eve born in the 90's and London, his youngest son.

Career

His first major television appearance was in a mini series titled, THE LAW, which springboarded Judd's career in 1974. For his performance in ''Taxi'', in 1981 and again in 1983, Judd Hirsch won the Emmy Award for Lead Actor In a Comedy Series. Hirsch went on to play the title character on the modestly successful sitcom ''Dear John'' and in 1989 won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series in a Comedy or Musical for this role. He later teamed with Bob Newhart in the short-lived comedy ''George and Leo''. He had also previously starred for one season in the series ''Delvecchio'', playing a police detective (1976–1977).

In motion pictures, Hirsch received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 1980s ''Ordinary People''. Other films in the 1980s include the 1983 drama ''Without a Trace'', the 1984 dramedies ''Teachers'' and ''The Goodbye People'', and the 1988 drama ''Running on Empty'' directed by Sidney Lumet and co-starring River Phoenix. In 1996 Hirsch portrayed the father of Jeff Goldblum's character in ''Independence Day'', and in 2001 he appeared in the acclaimed ''A Beautiful Mind''.

Hirsch co-starred on the CBS Television drama ''NUMB3RS'' as Alan Eppes, father of FBI agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and Professor Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz). Hirsch and Krumholtz also played father and son in ''Conversations with My Father'', a Herb Gardner play for which Hirsch won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play. Krumholtz credits Hirsch with jump-starting his career after Hirsch chose him during the audition process for ''Conversations''. Other noteworthy stage performances include ''The Hot l Baltimore,'' ''Talley's Folly,'' and his starring role in ''I'm Not Rappaport,'' in which Hirsch also won a Tony Award in 1986.

More recently, Hirsch has guest-starred on episodes of ''Warehouse 13'', ''Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip'', ''Law & Order: SVU'' and ''The Whole Truth'' (which saw him reunite with ''Numb3rs'' co-star Rob Morrow), among others, and lent his voice to the animated programs ''Tom Goes to the Mayor'' and ''American Dad!'' In 1999, he reprised his role from ''Taxi'' for a brief moment in ''Man on the Moon'', the biopic of his co-star from ''Taxi'', Andy Kaufman (portrayed by Jim Carrey).

John Judd (born in Coventry at 1942) is a Formula One engineer from England. He is the boss of Engine Developments Ltd., manufacturers of Judd engines. He is also known for partnership with triple F1 World Champion Sir Jack Brabham.

Judd began his career at a young age, shortly after he decided to leave school. He managed to get signed as an employee for the engine company Conventry, his first job. They gave him a scholarship to study at a local college. In the early 1960s he began working on the Coventry Climax Formula 1 engine, which was used at the time by Jack Brabham. After Brabham separated with Conventry to move with Repco, Judd was hired by Brabham to work with engine designer Phil Irving. He was design and build the new 3-liter engines for Brabham with result two drivers championship and two constructors championship in 1966 and 1967.

Later, Brabham switched again to Ford DFV engine built by Cosworth, and once again, Judd was hired by Jack Brabham to do development work on the Cosworth DFV engines. Brabham team later sold to Bernie Ecclestone, and Jack Brabham planned to create a new project as engine development. He and Judd later founded Engine Developments Ltd. in 1971. In the years that followed Engine Developments prepared Cosworth engines for teams such as Williams, Arrows, Lotus, Ensign and Fittipaldi.

Late 1970s, Judd and his team extended his area to IndyCar. In 1980, Judd was hired by Honda to develop an engine for the company's return to Formula Two in association with Ron Tauranac's Ralt team.

Judd and his company came back to F1 in 1988 season supplying engines for Williams, Ligier and March. In 1991 Judd struck a deal with Scuderia Italia to supply V10 engines for a Dallara-designed car.

In 1992 Judd create a partnership with Yamaha to build and develop engines for Formula 1. His collaboration best result came in Hungary 1997 GP when Damon Hill finished second place after Jacques Villeneuve.The Partnership ended at the start of the 1998 season. Judd continued to develop his V10 engine in 1998 and 1999.

Beginning 21st century: Judd and his company move to Touring Car and Le Mans Series, with result victory in 2001 American Le Mans Series with Dick Barbour Racing, and second place in the teams championship in the Rolex Sports Car Series in 2002 with Doran.

In 2004, Judd's collaboration with Ray Mallock Ltd. earned the XV675 one of its few successes, winning the LMP2 class at the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2007 Judd planned to supply LMP2 team with his engine.

Richard Mulligan (November 13, 1932 – September 26, 2000) was an American television and film actor.

Early life

He was born in New York City, the younger brother of director Robert Mulligan. After attending Columbia University, Mulligan began working in theatre, making his debut as a stage manager and performer on Broadway in ''All the Way Home'' in 1960. Additional theatre credits included ''A Thousand Clowns'', ''Never Too Late'', ''Hogan's Goat'', and ''Thieves''.

Early career

Mulligan starred with Mariette Hartley in the 1966-67 season comedy series ''The Hero'', in which he played TV star Sam Garret, who in turn starred on a fictional series as Jed Clayton, U.S. Marshal. ''The Hero'' lasted only 16 episodes. Another notable TV appearance was on the ''I Dream of Jeannie'' episode "Around the World in 80 Blinks", as a navy commander accompanying Maj. Nelson (Larry Hagman) on a mission.

Notable roles

Mulligan's most notable film role was as General Custer in ''Little Big Man'', whom he portrayed as a borderline psychotic. He also appeared in the disaster movie spoof ''The Big Bus'' (1976), where he was reunited with Larry Hagman, with whom he starred in an episode of ''I Dream of Jeannie'' (see above). In the comedy-drama ''Teachers'', he partially reprised his Custer role from ''Little Big Man'', portraying a mental patient mistaken for a substitute teacher, who dresses up as various historical figures (including Abe Lincoln, Ben Franklin and Custer in his final scene) to teach his pupils, who learn more from him than from the actual teachers.

In 1983 he was cast as Reggie Potter in the television series "Reggie", a loose adaptation of ''The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin'', but the adaptation failed to capture the essence of the original, and ran for only one season.

His best-known roles in television were as Burt Campbell in the sitcom ''Soap'', for which he won a Best Actor Emmy Award, and as Dr. Harry Weston in the NBC series ''Empty Nest'', a spinoff of ''The Golden Girls''. ''Empty Nest'' ran for seven seasons, and Mulligan won a Best Actor Emmy Award as well as a Golden Globe Award for his performance. He also played Secretary of State William Seward in the 1988 made for TV movie, "Gore Vidal's Lincoln."

Mulligan returned to perform on Broadway and in films, in which he usually played supporting roles. A notable exception was the 1981 satirical film ''S.O.B.'', in which he played lead character Felix Farmer, a Hollywood producer-director modeled on the film's actual producer-director, Blake Edwards.

He also played in "Night of the Meek", an episode of The New Twilight Zone in 1986, where he took on the role of Santa Claus in the remake of the 1959 Christmas episode The Night of the Meek, taking over the same character that actor Art Carney did in the older version.

He appeared in Disney's 1988 film, ''Oliver & Company'', as the voice of the oafish Great Dane, ironically named Einstein.

Marriages

Mulligan married four times. He was first married to Patricia Jones from 1955 to 1960, with whom he had a son, James. That was followed by marriages to Joan Hackett from January 3, 1966 to June 1973 and Lenore Stevens from 1978 to 1990. His last marriage was to adult actress Rachel Ryan on April 27, 1992, which lasted two years.

Death

After making his last appearance in an episode of ''Hey Arnold!'', on September 26, 2000, Mulligan died of colorectal cancer at his home in Los Angeles, California. At his own request, he was cremated and there was no funeral service. Mulligan was survived by his son James Mulligan from his first marriage and two brothers Robert and James.

Mulligan has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6777 Hollywood Blvd.

Paul Stephen Rudd (born April 6, 1969) is an American actor and screenwriter. He primarily appears in comedies, and is best known for his roles in the films ''Clueless'', ''Wet Hot American Summer'', ''Anchorman'', ''Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers'', ''The 40-Year-Old Virgin'', ''Knocked Up'', ''Dinner for Schmucks'', ''The Object of My Affection'', ''Role Models'', ''I Love You, Man'' and ''How Do You Know''. On television, he is also well known for his role on the NBC sitcom ''Friends'', playing Mike Hannigan, Phoebe Buffay's boyfriend and later husband.

Early life

Rudd was born in Passaic, New Jersey. His parents, who emigrated from England, were Jewish, and Rudd had a bar mitzvah. His ancestors had moved from Russia and Poland to England, and his family's original surname, "Rudnitzky", was changed by his grandfather to "Rudd". Rudd's father, Michael, was a historical tour guide who was formerly the vice president of World Airways, while Rudd's mother, Gloria, was a sales manager at the television station KSMO-TV. When he was ten, Rudd's family moved to Overland Park, Kansas, where he was raised. He attended high school at Shawnee Mission West and college at the University of Kansas, where he became a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He spent three months studying Jacobean drama at the British American Drama Academy based in Oxford, UK.

Career

Rudd made his breakout performance in the 1995 film ''Clueless'', which turned him into a minor teen idol. Additional early-career credits include ''Wet Hot American Summer'', ''Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers'', ''The Cider House Rules'', ''William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet'', and ''The Object of My Affection''. He also garnered recognition with a recurring role on ''Friends'' as Mike Hannigan, who married Phoebe Buffay. Rudd's Broadway credits include ''The Last Night of Ballyhoo'' (1997), ''Twelfth Night'' (1998), and ''Three Days of Rain'' (2006). He guest-starred as a has-been 1990s rock star, Desmond Fellows, on the television series, ''Veronica Mars'', in an episode titled "Debasement Tapes". He has also appeared in the audiobook recordings of John Hodgman's books ''The Areas of My Expertise'' and ''More Information Than You Require''. Rudd became a full fledged comedy star with his co-starring roles in Judd Apatow pictures ''The 40-Year-Old Virgin'' (directed by Apatow) and ''Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'' (produced by Apatow). In 2007, he starred as frustrated husband Pete in ''Knocked Up'', his third collaboration with Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen. That year he also starred in indie favorite ''The Oh in Ohio'' and ''The Ten'', which reunited him with David Wain and Michael Showalter. The former film was a box-office and critical disappointment as was his next starring vehicle, ''Over Her Dead Body'' opposite Eva Longoria. He quickly bounced back with a memorable supporting role as Kunu (Hawaiian for "Chuck") the drug-addled surf instructor in Nicholas Stoller's ''Forgetting Sarah Marshall'' which also starred Jason Segel and was produced by Apatow. The film was a hit, as was his next comedy ''Role Models'', where he starred opposite Seann William Scott as a depressed energy drink salesman forced to perform community service at a child mentoring program. Rudd also cameoed in ''Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story'', ''Year One'' and ''Night at the Museum''.

In 2009, he starred with Jason Segel in ''I Love You Man''. He lent his voice to the star studded Dreamworks computer animated hit ''Monsters Vs. Aliens''. In 2010, Rudd reunited with Steve Carell for the first time since ''Knocked Up'', ''The 40 Year Old Virgin'', and ''Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'' for the Jay Roach-directed comedy ''Dinner for Schmucks'', also starring Zach Galifinakis and Ron Livingston.

Rudd has become one of the most popular and marketable stars of Judd Apatow's films and others in the same vein, starring often with other Apatow regulars like Seth Rogen (four films), Jonah Hill (three films), Leslie Mann (three films), Kristen Wiig (three films), Jason Segel (three films), Steve Carell (four films), Elizabeth Banks (three films), and less noticeably Joe Lo Truglio (five films).

Running gags on television

As part of a running gag during his appearances on ''Late Night with Conan O'Brien'', ''The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien'' and ''Conan'', Rudd has brought a clip from the film ''Mac and Me'', where the wheelchair-using Eric (Jade Calegory) flies off a cliff while Mac watches on, instead of showing clips from the actual film he is there to promote. He also has appeared on stage for Conan O'Brien's live tour.

Personal life

In 2003, Rudd married his girlfriend of five years, Julie Yaeger; they have a son, Jack Sullivan, and a daughter, Darby, and live in Manhattan, New York. Rudd frequently travels to Overland Park, Kansas, where he went to high school. He is a fan of the National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs, for whom he narrated the HBO special ''Hard Knocks'' in 2007.

David Krumholtz (born May 15, 1978) is an American actor best known for playing Professor Charlie Eppes in the television series ''Numb3rs''. He also appeared as Goldstein in the films ''Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle'' and its sequel ''Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay'', and as Bernard the Arch-Elf in ''The Santa Clause'' and its sequel ''The Santa Clause 2''.

Early life

Krumholtz was born in Queens, New York, the son of Judy, a dental assistant, and Michael Krumholtz, a postal worker. He grew up in a "very working-class, almost poor" Jewish family. His mother moved from Hungary to the U.S. in 1956.

Career

Krumholtz began his acting career at the age of 13 when he followed his friends to an open audition for the Broadway play ''Conversations with My Father'' (1992). Though he did not expect to get the part, he won the role of Young Charlie opposite Judd Hirsch, Tony Shalhoub, and Jason Biggs, who was also making his Broadway debut. Soon after his run on Broadway, Krumholtz co-starred in two feature films, ''Life With Mikey'' (1993) opposite Michael J. Fox, and ''Addams Family Values'' (1993) opposite Christina Ricci. For his role in ''Mikey'', David was nominated for a 1993 Young Artist Award. Although his work in these two films garnered him critical attention, David is probably best known by children as the sarcastic head elf Bernard from ''The Santa Clause'' (1994) and its 2002 sequel ''The Santa Clause 2: The Mrs Clause'', but due to filming overlap with ''Numb3rs'' was unable to take part in ''The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause''.

In 1994, at age of sixteen, Krumholtz co-starred in his first television series, ''Monty'', with Henry Winkler. The show only lasted a few episodes. Krumholtz would star in several short-lived series over the years. Along the way, he had the opportunity to work with Jason Bateman (''Chicago Sons'', 1997), Tom Selleck (''The Closer'', 1998), Jon Cryer (''The Trouble with Normal'', 2000), and Rob Lowe (''The Lyon's Den'', 2003). In 2005, he finally found television success with the CBS series ''Numb3rs''. Along with his starring roles on television, Krumholtz made memorable guest appearances on ''ER'', ''Law & Order'', ''Undeclared'', ''Lucky'', and ''Freaks and Geeks''.

He broke out of the children's movie genre with ''The Ice Storm'' (1997), directed by Ang Lee, and ''Slums of Beverly Hills'' (1998), starring Alan Arkin and Natasha Lyonne. In 1999, David starred as Michael Eckman in the popular teen movie ''10 Things I Hate about You'' with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Julia Stiles, and Heath Ledger. That same year, he portrayed a completely different teen character – that of Yussel, a young conflicted Jewish man in ''Liberty Heights''.

It was the role of Yussel that brought Krumholtz to the attention of actor and filmmaker Edward Burns, who cast him in the 2001 independent movie ''Sidewalks of New York''. Playing the romantic and slightly obsessed Benny, Krumholtz was on a path to larger, more complex film roles. His first role as a leading man was in the 2002 romantic comedy ''You Stupid Man'', playing opposite Milla Jovovich. Although never released theatrically in the United States, ''You Stupid Man'', directed by Edward Burns's brother Brian Burns, was released on DVD in 2006. Krumholtz carried his first leading role in a released American film when he starred ''Big Shot: Confessions of a Campus Bookie'', which premiered on FX Networks in 2002.

''Big Shot'' was a true story based on the Arizona State University basketball fixing scandal of the early 1990s. Krumholtz played Benny Silman, a college student and campus bookmaker who was jailed for his part in shaving points off key ASU basketball games. Benny was unlike any character Krumholtz played prior, and garnered critical praise for his performance, proving that he was not just a sidekick.

In 2004, Krumholtz reunited with Edward Burns for the independent film ''The Last Hold-Outs''. The following year he played Max in ''My Suicidal Sweetheart'' (formerly ''Max and Grace''), once again starring opposite actress Natasha Lyonne. Krumholtz also returned to smaller key roles in the successful films ''Ray'' and ''Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle'' – two very different movies released in 2004. In September 2005, he was seen in Joss Whedon's science fiction film ''Serenity'' as "Mr. Universe", a hacker and information broker. Most recently, in early 2006, Krumholtz's 2003 film ''Kill the Poor'' screened in New York City at IFC Center and across the country on Comcast's On Demand cable service.

On ''Numb3rs'', he played the part of Charlie Eppes, a mathematical genius who helped his brother Don (Rob Morrow), an FBI agent, solve crimes using mathematics. The cast of ''Numb3rs'' also included Judd Hirsch and Peter MacNicol, who appeared with him in ''Addams Family Values'' as a camp counselor. Television critic Matt Roush (''TV Guide'') called Krumholtz's work on ''Numb3rs'' "probably his best TV work to date". ''Numb3rs'' was officially cancelled by CBS on May 18, 2010.

Personal life

He appears in two documentaries on the ''Knocked Up'' DVD (one being staged and the other being genuine). "Gummy: The Sixth Roommate" tells the true story of how David dropped out of the film to play the lead part in a Woody Allen movie in Paris that got canceled before production, and Apatow would not write him back into his script. He would have played one of the main character's five roommates (along with other ''Freaks and Geeks'' alumni Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Martin Starr). Friend and fellow ''Freaks'' actor Jason Segel appears with him in a short scene in ''Tenacious D in 'The Pick of Destiny'''.

On Saturday May 22, 2010, Krumholtz married actress Vanessa Britting at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The couple had been engaged since July 2008. As of 2007, he resides in Los Angeles, California where ''Numb3rs'' was produced.
