A Day in the Life of Rackspace - Get your Awesome On!
It's been an amazing day at the Castle -- Another Day in the Life of Rackspace. We kicked it at an event with our friends at Startup Bus, chatted with Guy Kawasaki and Robert Scoble, inducted another 120 family members at Rookie O and all while continuing to provide the best service experience in the industry to our customers. So much happens here everyday, that sometimes it seems like wherever you point the camera, you're capturing some important, cool or just plain Fanatical moment. Shot and edited on March 9, 2012. iOS app for Rackspace Cloud
Coinciding with the much-anticipated release of the iPad 2, Rackspace is releasing version 2.0 of its iOS app for Rackspace Cloud. The new app provides system administrators tremendous flexibility in managing their Cloud Servers and Cloud Files and the freedom to do so from virtually anywhere. "With this app, we fully implemented everything in the API," explains Mike Mayo, Senior Developer of Mobile Apps for Rackspace Hosting. "[With the original iOS app], we were mostly trying to hurry up and get an app out in time for launch date. This time, we spent more time on it. We give you more control of your cloud servers, better control of your cloud files, better ways to access cloud files. You can now open them, print them, stream media to an Apple TV—pretty much everything you could possibly pull off on the iPad." The app allows you to see all the Cloud Servers on your account and view details about each server. You can create new cloud servers, rename Cloud Servers, resize Cloud Servers and perform hard and soft reboots. It is functionally the same, feature-for-feature, for both the iPad and iPhone, and, given how intuitive the user interface is for the iOS, using these apps to control your servers can even be faster than doing it from your web browser. Best of all, the app frees system administrators to get out from behind their desks. "The best use for this is if you are a sysadmin controlling resources on our cloud. Get this app and something like iSSH, and then you have ...

The Cloud Guy at Rackspace
Bret Piatt is the Cloud Guy at Rackspace. His title is Technical Alliance Manager for the Rackspace Cloud hosting operation — which means hes in charge of developing or finding and refining tools to make life easier for such people as Web designers. Almost every aspect of Web development and applications is becoming faster and cheaper, he says in this video, pointing out that not so long ago many millions of dollars were needed to get promising technologies started. The (financial) barriers to entry (today) on a lot of these technology advancements (are) going way down. And, right along with faster and cheaper is simplier to use, he says. It doesnt do us any good to build a magic technology widget if people dont understand how to make use of it, says Piatt. We recently visited the headquarters for Rackspace Hosting, which are located inside a 1.1 million square foot former shopping mall in San Antonio.
