58th national film awards or rational film awards
Jury : Ad-film director Prahlad Kakkar, director and Chairman of Feature Films JP Dutta, cinematographer GS Bhaskar and director Bharat Bala. It was a southern sweep at the 58th National Film Awards, with Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu chosen as the best feature film, and Vetrimaran selected as best director for Tamil film Aadukulam. In fact, the two best actors — Salim Kumar and Dhanush — were selected from these two films as well. In a surprise move, the Awards jury urged the government to shell out an additional Rs.2.5 lakh to ensure that both actors, as well as the two women selected for the Best Actress Award — Tamil actor Saranya Ponvannan for Thenmerkku Paruvakkatru and Marathi actor Mitalee Jagtap Paradhar for her performance in Baboo Band Baaja — and the four children chosen for the Best Child Artist Award, did not have to split the prize money as was usually the case. "We felt that they were all outstanding and could not be ignored...It was a unanimous decision," said Bollywood filmmaker JP Dutta, who chaired the Awards jury. "We have recommended it to the [Information and Broadcasting] Minister Ambika Soni, and she seemed positive." While Tamil films stole the spotlight, bagging 12 Awards, films from the other southern States too did well. Adaminte Makan Abu, which shows "humanist values freeing matters of faith from the constrictions of narrow parochialism", bagged four awards, while Kannada films won in the categories for children's films and films on ...

Roja Movie Songs - Paruvam Vaanaga Song - ARRahman Music - Madu Bala Aravinda Swamy
Roja Thefilm won three National Film Awards, including Best Film on National Integration, catapulting Ratnam to national acclaim. The film also gained international acclaim with its nomination for Best Film at the Moscow International Film Festival. The film was recently re-released for international audiences in light of the growing fear of terrorist attacks across the world. This film was so popular during that time, that terrorists in Kashmir, got a copy of the movie in Tamil.[citation needed] It is the first in Ratnam's trilogy of films that depict human relationships against a background of Indian politics, including Bombay and Dil Se. The film's successful and acclaimed score and soundtrack were composed by AR Rahman, who debuted in Tamil as a music director with this film. This soundtrack is among the "10 Best Soundtracks" of all time listed by TIME magazine, issued in 2005

Naina Jogin: The Ascetic Eye
In Madhubani, people struggle against trying circumstances to eke out a living. Many have taken to painting to survive. They paint the traditional motives (erstwhile painted on cow dung textured walls of huts and closely associated with ritual) unto paper. These paintings are then sold in markets in India and abroad. While many painters repeat certain traditional motives other artists boldly expand the scope to include contemporary themes. The film is about these painters, their circumstances, their inspirations and their works. The film grows to completion by a criss-crossing of narratives stitched together by sights and songs of the milieu that births these artists. The central line of the film is the Khobbar ritual in which a newly married couple spends three days and nights in the painted Khobbar Ghar before they may consummate their marriage. This vigil over desire provides the film with a mysterious energy... Praveen Kumar is a graduate in Economics from Delhi University (1985) following which he did a Diploma in Film Direction from VARAN, Paris (1987). He subsequently worked with educational TV in New Delhi, producing short videos on various issues before directing the documentary Unto the Fold in 1996. It was screened at several International film Festivals including at Mannheim and Cinema du Reel. Naina Jogin (The Ascetic Eye) is his latest work. It has won the National Award for the Best Arts/Cultural Film of 2005.

Jogwa
Suli an innocent, happy carefree girl tethering on the brink of womanhood is unexpectedly forced into a life of servitude to the local deity when the uneducated, rural community in which she resides compels her to live a life of subjugation and serfdom on account of rampant superstitions that plagues the village. As Suli struggles to adjust to the new life unexpectedly thrust upon her, a far cry from the dreams and aspirations she once harbored, she meets Tayappa, a man forced to drape a sari and live the life of a woman and a homosexual as he too is a victim of the same circumstances that afflict her life. Brought together by the plight of their similar circumstances and wretched futures, Suli and Tayappa develop a warm and cherishing camaraderie, which eventually blossoms into love. The two gentle, wounded souls seek solace and comfort in each others company. Together they once again dream of living a happy, normal life, but are forced to face the wrath of a highly disapproving community that is hell-bent upon destroying their union. A heart wrenching tale that exposes the hypocrisies and exploitations of an oppressed society harrowed by archaic traditions and plagued by superstitions in the heart of rural India, Jogwa is a poignant tale of one woman's inspiring journey to break free from the shackles of discrimination, sexual oppression and servitude and find true happiness.
