Mt Marcy: Winter Hike
Mt Marcy: Winter Hike
Hiking the Adirondack's highest mountain, Mt. Marcy, in the dead of winter. We build a snow cave to spend the night and fight the elements all the way to the summit.

Classic Adirondack Winter Camping Hiking Footage -- Mt. Marcy
Classic Adirondack Winter Camping Hiking Footage -- Mt. Marcy
Historic footage of winter climbers in the Adirondack Mountains climbing Mt. Marcy -- the highest peak in New York. Some backcountry skiing as well. The top of Marcy appears to be icy and dangerous. Interesting commentary as well a la Dick Proenneke's Alone in the Wilderness or Cabin Country's Lumberjack Sky Pilot.

Skiing Mount Marcy: Phelps Brook section
Skiing Mount Marcy: Phelps Brook section
Skiing Mount Marcy, the highest summit in New York State, is THE classic ski tour in the Adirondack Mountains. It's 7.2 miles from Adirondak Loj to the summit. This video follows a skier (Alan Wechsler) on a mellow 1.2-mile stretch of the trail along Phelps Brook. I shot it with the camera strapped to my chest, skiing behind Alan.

Summit of Mt. Marcy, Adirondack Mountains, NY
Summit of Mt. Marcy, Adirondack Mountains, NY
Over the MLK weekend, we pulked our gear into Avalanche camp site past Marcy Dam. We visited Avalanche Pass, and summited Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in NYS. Summit conditions consisted of 50mph+ wind gusts, and a -40F wind chill. Since all lean-tos were occupied, we slept in tents for two nights, the second night the temperature dipped to -30F. That happened to be the coldest weather in the continental US that night. All credit for the added music goes to talented Adirondack artist Christopher Shaw. Hooty-hoot.

Mt Marcy 3/14/09
My climb up Mt Marcy on a gorgeous, cloudless day. I even included the start of my fall down the mountain and some of the many bruises which resulted from the fall. I took more time to slow down my video movements. Not quite there yet, but more improved than the last. Thanks for a buddy from RSC on tips on hwo to improve the overall quality.
