Die Dresdner Frauenkirche. Die Frauenkirche in Dresden (ursprünglich Kirche Unserer Lieben Frauen -- der Name bezieht sich auf die Heilige Maria) ist eine evangelisch-lutherische Kirche des Barocks und der prägende Monumentalbau des Dresdner Neumarkts. Sie gilt als prachtvolles Zeugnis des protestantischen Sakralbaus und verfügt über eine der größten steinernen Kirchenkuppeln nördlich der Alpen. Die Dresdner Frauenkirche wurde von 1726 bis 1743 nach einem Entwurf von George Bähr erbaut. Im Luftkrieg des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde sie während der Luftangriffe auf Dresden in der Nacht vom 13. zum 14. Februar 1945 durch den in Dresden wütenden Feu -

Nach der Wende begann 1994 der 2005 abgeschlossene Wiederaufbau, den Fördervereine und Spender aus aller Welt finanzieren halfen.
Am 30. Oktober 2005 fand in der Frauenkirche ein Weihegottesdienst und Festakt statt. Aus dem Mahnmal gegen den Krieg soll nun ein Symbol der Versöhnung werden.

The Dresden Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is a Lutheran church in Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony. Although the original church was Roman Catholic until it became Protestant during the Reformation, the current Baroque building was purposely built Protestant. It is considered an outstanding example of Protestant sacred architecture, featuring one of the largest domes in Europe.
Built in the 18th century, the church was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The remaining ruins were left as a war memorial, following decisions of local East German leaders. The church was rebuilt after the reunification of Germany. The reconstruction of its exterior was completed in 2004 and its interior in 2005. The church was reconsecrated on 30 October 2005 with festive services lasting through the Protestant observance of Reformation Day on 31 October. It now also serves as symbol of reconciliation between former warring enemies.
The Frauenkirche is often called a cathedral, however it is not the seat of a bishop. The bishop's church is the Church of the Cross. Once a month, an Anglican Evensong is held in English, by clergy from the St. George's Anglican Chaplaincy.
The Frauenkirche has an observation point at the top of it's dome, that fee paying customers can access. Visitors go up a lift, and then have 130 steps plus a sloping spiral pathway to the top. This is an excellent visitor attraction for both residents of Dresden and tourists visiting the city. This video features exterior shots of the Frauenkirche, and the journey to the top of the dome, including the lift, some of the steps, the pathway and internal views within the dome of the decor. The film then features views of the City of Dresden and the surrounding Saxon landscape.

The impact of the bombing and 40 years of urban development during the East German socialist era have considerably changed the face of the city. Some restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semperoper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche. Since the German reunification in 1990, Dresden has re-emerged as a cultural, educational, political and economic centre of Germany.
The Elbe Valley of Dresden was an internationally recognised site of cultural significance by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for five years. After being placed on the list of endangered World Heritage Sites in 2006, the city had its status as world heritage site formally removed in June 2009, for the wilful breach of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, due to the construction of a highway bridge across the valley within 2 km of the historic centre. It thereby became the first location ever in Europe to lose this status, and the second ever in the world.

Dresden is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony (Sachsen) in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border. The Dresden conurbation is part of the Saxon Triangle metropolitan area with 2.4 million inhabitants.
Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city center. A controversial Allied aerial bombing towards the end of World War II killed 25,000 civilians and destroyed the entire city center. The impact of the bombing and 40 years of urban development during the East German communist era have considerably changed the face of the city. Some restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semper Oper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche.
Since German reunification in 1990, Dresden has regained importance as one of the cultural, educational, political and economic centers of Germany and Europe. The Dresden University of Technology is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany and part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative.
The video consists of a slideshow of pictures taken during a visit to the historic inner city and includes several interesting buildings, streets and monuments:

Dresden Travel Video - There are few city silhouettes more striking than Dresden's. The classic view from the Elbe's northern bank takes in spires, towers and domes belonging to palaces, churches and stately buildings. Numerous artists, most notably the Italian Canaletto, have set up their easels to capture this breathtaking panorama.
Dresden's cultural heyday came under the 18th-century reign of Augustus the Strong (August der Starke) and his son Augustus III when the Saxon capital was known as the 'Florence of the north'. Their vision produced many of Dresden's iconic buildings, including the Zwinger and the Frauenkirche. The devastating bombing raids in 1945 levelled most of these treasures. But Dresden is a survivor and many of the most important landmarks have since been rebuilt, including the elegant Frauenkirche. Today, there's a constantly evolving arts and cultural scene and zinging pub and nightlife quarters, especially in the Outer Neustadt.

Die Dresdner Frauenkirche. Die Frauenkirche in Dresden (ursprünglich Kirche Unserer Lieben Frauen -- der Name bezieht sich auf die Heilige Maria) ist eine evangelisch-lutherische Kirche des Barocks und der prägende Monumentalbau des Dresdner Neumarkts. Sie gilt als prachtvolles Zeugnis des protestantischen Sakralbaus und verfügt über eine der größten steinernen Kirchenkuppeln nördlich der Alpen. Die Dresdner Frauenkirche wurde von 1726 bis 1743 nach einem Entwurf von George Bähr erbaut. Im Luftkrieg des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde sie während der Luftangriffe auf Dresden in der Nacht vom 13. zum 14. Februar 1945 durch den in Dresden wütenden Feuersturm schwer beschädigt und stürzte am Morgen des 15. Februar ausgebrannt in sich zusammen. In der DDR blieb ihre Ruine erhalten und diente als Mahnmal gegen Krieg und Zerstörung. Nach der Wende begann 1994 der 2005 abgeschlossene Wiederaufbau, den Fördervereine und Spender aus aller Welt finanzieren halfen. Am 30. Oktober 2005 fand in der Frauenkirche ein Weihegottesdienst und Festakt statt. Aus dem Mahnmal gegen den Krieg soll nun ein Symbol der Versöhnung werden.- published: 11 Dec 2013

Oktober 2005 geweiht worden. "Friede sei mit Euch!" Evangelisch-Lutherischer Gottesdienst und Festakt zur Weihe der Frauenkirchen in Dresden, u.a. mit Pfarrer Stephan Fritz, Landesbischof Jorchen Bohl und Bundespräsident Horst Köhler. The Dresden Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is a Lutheran church in Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony. Although the original church was Roman Catholic until it became Protestant during the Reformation, the current Baroque building was purposely built Protestant. It is considered an outstanding example of Protestant sacred architecture, featuring one of the largest domes in Europe. Built in the 18th century, the church was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden during World War II. The remaining ruins were left as a war memorial, following decisions of local East German leaders. The church was rebuilt after the reunification of Germany. The reconstruction of its exterior was completed in 2004 and its interior in 2005. The church was reconsecrated on 30 October 2005 with festive services lasting through the Protestant observance of Reformation Day on 31 October. It now also serves as symbol of reconciliation between former warring enemies. The Frauenkirche is often called a cathedral, however it is not the seat of a bishop. The bishop's church is the Church of the Cross. Once a month, an Anglican Evensong is held in English, by clergy from the St. George's Anglican Chaplaincy. The Frauenkirche has an observation point at the top of it's dome, that fee paying customers can access. Visitors go up a lift, and then have 130 steps plus a sloping spiral pathway to the top. This is an excellent visitor attraction for both residents of Dresden and tourists visiting the city. This video features exterior shots of the Frauenkirche, and the journey to the top of the dome, including the lift, some of the steps, the pathway and internal views within the dome of the decor. Dresden is the capital city of the Free State of Saxony (Sachsen) in Germany. It is situated in a valley on the River Elbe, near the Czech border. The Dresden conurbation is part of the Saxon Triangle metropolitan area with 2.4 million inhabitants. Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony, who for centuries furnished the city with cultural and artistic splendour. The city was known as the Jewel Box, because of its baroque and rococo city center. A controversial Allied aerial bombing towards the end of World War II killed 25,000 civilians and destroyed the entire city center. The impact of the bombing and 40 years of urban development during the East German communist era have considerably changed the face of the city. Some restoration work has helped to reconstruct parts of the historic inner city, including the Katholische Hofkirche, the Semper Oper and the Dresdner Frauenkirche. Since German reunification in 1990, Dresden has regained importance as one of the cultural, educational, political and economic centers of Germany and Europe. The Dresden University of Technology is one of the 10 largest universities in Germany and part of the German Universities Excellence Initiative. The classic view from the Elbe's northern bank takes in spires, towers and domes belonging to palaces, churches and stately buildings. Numerous artists, most notably the Italian Canaletto, have set up their easels to capture this breathtaking panorama. Dresden's cultural heyday came under the 18th-century reign of Augustus the Strong (August der Starke) and his son Augustus III when the Saxon capital was known as the 'Florence of the north'. Their vision produced many of Dresden's iconic buildings, including the Zwinger and the Frauenkirche. The devastating bombing raids in 1945 levelled most of these treasures. But Dresden is a survivor and many of the most important landmarks have since been rebuilt, including the elegant Frauenkirche. Today, there's a constantly evolving arts and cultural scene and zinging pub and nightlife quarters, especially in the Outer Neustadt. The Dresden Frauenkirche (German: Dresdner Frauenkirche, IPA: [ˈfʁaʊənˌkɪʁçə], Church of Our Lady) is a Lutheran church in Dresden Germany.
Built in the 18th century, the church was destroyed in the firebombing of Dresden during World War II. It was reconstructed as a landmark symbol of reconciliation between former warring enemies. The reconstruction of its exterior was completed in 2004, its interior in 2005 and, after 13 years of rebuilding, the church was reconsecrated on 30 October 2005 with festive services lasting through the Protestant observance of Reformation Day on 31 October.
Once a month, an Anglican Evensong in English is held in the Church of Our Lady, with clergy sent from St. George's Anglican Chaplaincy in Berlin.
A first Kirche zu unser liuben Vrouwen was built in the 11th century in romanesque architecture. It was outside the city walls and surrounded by a grave yard. The Frauenkirche was seat of an archpriest in the Diocese Meißen until Reformation, when it became a Protestant church. This first Frauenkirche was torn down in 1727 and replaced by a new church due to capacity requests. The modern Frauenkirche was built as a Lutheran (Protestant) parish church by the citizenry. Even though Saxony's Prince-elector, Frederick August I, reconverted to Roman Catholicism to become King of Poland, he supported the construction to have an impressive cupola in the Dresden townscape.
