Absintheology.com Paul Nathan demonstrates the Czech Huffing Ritual. Most absinthe enthusiasts shun any serving method involving fire, this one in particular. Here at Absintheology we don't judge, we just educate. This is a common method of consuming absinthe in Praque. It's a version of the backdraft. I personally spent the night face down in a gutter in Prague after a few of these so be careful. ... and no, it won't make you hallucinate.

Video of Czech president Klaus 'stealing' pen during Chile ceremony
Two cheeky Czechs have launched a campaign aimed at gathering writing implements for the country's President Václav Klaus. In doing so, they express their support to the leader, who has recently found himself in an embarrassing situation. Vaclav Klaus was captured on video stealing a protocol pen during his official meeting with his Chilean counterpart Sebastián Piñera on Tuesday. The story caused a stir in the Czech Republic. Czech television broadcast the video with red circles and arrows highlighting the pen. A spokesman for Klaus on Tuesday dismissed the media storm caused by the video, saying the pen was "a common pen with a logo of the state or office, which presidents and members of their delegation receive during state visits". In fact, the pens are encrusted with semi-precious Chilean lapiz lazuili stones. However, a Pinera spokeswoman said the president's guests were free to take them.

The Demographic Decline of the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic's picturesque capital city of Prague showcases hundreds of years of European history through its well-preserved architecture. The Czech Republic also serves as a bellwether for Europe's demographic future. Racial diversity is spreading across the continent from immigrant hubs in Western Europe and arriving in the land of the Czechs.

Czech Republic: Praha - Prague - Prag - Praag
This is a partly remake of my former video of Prague (2007), because in some parts the graphical quality of that video was not so good. In no other city I visited, I felt such a strong interweaving of the past in the present. Some additional information: 00:06 The Church of Our Lady before Tyn was founded in 1385. The two spires are not symmetrical. This is characteristic of the gothic architecture of that time, it represents the masculine and feminine side of the world. 00:20 The Jewish Quarter Josefov. The name Josefov refers to the emperor Josef II, who improved the living conditions for the Jewish in Prague. The Jewish Quarter contains the remains of Pragues former Jewish ghetto. 00:40 The Rudolfinum (opened in 1885) is a music auditorium and one of the most important neo-renaissance buildings in Prague. In front of it is the Golden muse Statue. It is situated on the bank of the river Vltava. Currently it is the seat of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. 00:55 The Gothic Powder Tower lies next to the Municipal House The construction of the 65m tall Powder Tower begun in 1475. Together with the Old Town Bridge Tower, the Powder Tower is the only existing part of the former Prague Old Town fortification. It used to form one of the 13 entrances to the Old Town. The tower got its present name in the 17th century when it was used to store gunpowder. 01:08 The Municipal House is the most spectacular art nouveau building in Prague. Lisbon Treaty: EU Pressures Czechs in Rare Video Conference
A defective Czech government aircraft led to a rare conference call on Wednesday with the presidents of the three main European Union institutions and the Czech Republic's government. Fredrick Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden, which holds the rotating EU presidency, joined by EU Parliament President Jerzy Buzek and EU Commission Chief Jose Manuel Barroso met with Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer to discuss the state of the Lisbon Treaty ratification in the Czech Republic. After Friday's 'yes' vote in Ireland, all eyes are now on the Czechs, where the constitutional court has to rule on whether or not the treaty infringes on Czech souvereignty before its euroskeptic president Vaclav Klaus will sign it off. www.google.com

Czech - USA 4:0 IIHF 2011 Jagr´s Hat Trick
Jaromir Jagr gave hockey fans back in the United States a reminder of his offensive skills Wednesday. The 39-year-old former NHL star scored a hat trick to lead the defending champion Czech Republic to a 4-0 win over the Americans in the quarterfinals of the ice hockey world championship. The Czechs will meet Sweden or Germany in the semifinals. "We didn't play that well as in the previous games. We had a little bit of luck," said Jagr, whose team has a perfect record at the tournament, in great part due to goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. "Ondrej was great and had several great saves in the first period. We looked a bit sleepy," Pavelec stopped 29 shots for the shutout. "It's disappointing," US captain Mark Stuart said. "We had a good team and I think if we played our best game we could beat anybody in this tournament." Jagr beat goalie Ty Conklin on a breakaway to put the Czechs ahead 1-0 with 1:15 remaining in the opening period. "We knew the first goal is going to be huge," Stuart said. "We started really well, we had a few chances, I think we hit the post. After they got their second goal we set back a little bit and that hurt us." The Czechs killed a two-man advantage before Jagr added his second goal in the middle period on a power play with a slap shot from the right circle. Blake Wheeler and James van Riemsdyk were in the penalty box at the time. US coach Scott Gordon called the goal "the major turning point." "That was a big swing right there," he said. England 2-1 Czech Republic - U19 Goals and full highlights - 28-10-12
Young Lions roll on at Orient Tuesday, 28 February, 2012 Goals from Harry Kane and Pat Bamford seal win over Czechs. England U19s put on a suitable audition for Head Coach Noel Blake on Tuesday night, maintaining their unbeaten run this season and seeing off the challenge of Czech Republic in their final match before they tackle the Elite Qualifying Round in May. Whilst the scoreline wasn't as comfortable as it perhaps could've been, Blake and his staff will be pleased with the performance from the Young Lions, who controlled possession throughout and created a number of clear chances. Blake had told his players before the game that with the Qualifiers on the horizon, this was a chance to prove their worth for a place in the squad and it was clear they were all eyeing up a spot for those three games against Switzerland, Montenegro and Slovenia, which England will host later this year. In the end, it was left to goals from striker Harry Kane and his second-half replacement Pat Bamford to secure victory but there were opportunities spurned for others across the 90 minutes and that will be one area at which Blake will be looking for improvement. England had the best of the early efforts, when Luke Garbutt's wicked free-kick from the left picked out Harry Kane at the far post but his header bounced into the ground and over the bar in the 13th minute. Kane wasn't to be denied a second time though, as the Spurs man opened the scoring shortly after the quarter-hour mark. For a ...

Czechs Join Britain In Rejecting EU Treaty
Czechs Join Britain In Rejecting EU Treaty
David Cameron is no longer isolated in Europe after the Czech Republic joined Britain in refusing to sign a controversial EU treaty handing more powers to Brussels. Some 25 out of the 27 member countries have signed the new fiscal pact which is aimed at stopping overspending by eurozone countries. Leaders hope the agreement will reassure investors they will never repeat the mistakes that led to the current sovereign debt crisis. At the last EU summit in December, Mr Cameron caused fury by vetoing a treaty designed to shore up the eurozone. The UK was the only country to walk away from the so-called fiscal compact, after the Prime Minister was rebuffed when he sought protection for Britain's financial services industry. It was a decision which tested the strength of the coalition and brought accusations the UK had pushed itself to the periphery of the EU, its largest trading partner, amid the eurozone crisis. Mr Cameron warned any changes the other members made under their alternative fiscal pact - excluding Britain - could not use EU institutions such as the Commission and EU court because they could only carry out policies applying to all 27. At the latest EU talks, he did not try to push his case against using institutions. But he warned he would take action to defend British national interests in Europe if the new fiscal deal between other member states threatens UK powers. He said: "We will only take action if our national interests are threatened - and I made clear ...

The Kingdom of Bohemia Proud to be Czech
The Kingdom of Bohemia Proud to be Czech
Czech Bohemia There is a great resentment among the Czech nobility to the Germanification of the kingdom. In fact, animosity has permeated the region for centuries. Prince Rotislav in the 10th Century requested Orthodox teachers from the Byzantine Empire to thwart the influence of the Western Christian influence of Salzburg and Passau. Although the effort largely failed, it can still be inferred by the existence of both Cyrillic and Old Slavonic (original written languages incorporating both Greek characters and new letters devised to bring the local Czechs into the Orthodox faith). Czech nobles feel their power-base ebbing with the influx of Germans, and have been known to butcher German settlers in retaliation. Many of the nobles are quite powerful, particularly the Slavnikovci family in eastern Moravia. The nobles have their own system of roads linking their castles, and charge tolls to use them. Towns are largely pro-King and pro-German (under royal protection), while the rural regions are under the authority of individual czech nobles. Influence of these nobles extends eastward into the land of Slovakia (across the Vlara pass), beyond the easternmost border of the Empire.

England 0-1 Czech Republic U17 International Friendly Highlights
England U17 Head Coach John Peacock congratulated the Czech Republic on their 1-0 defeat of England at Bishop's Stortford's Woodside Park. Peacock's young side created a host of chances throughout the match, but Czech goalkeeper Radim Jehlicka had an inspired game and he repelled the Three Lions on a number of occasions. And although he is disappointed with the result, Peacock was generous enough to praise the Czechs for the way they won the game, and pointed to their seventh-minute penalty miss and the fact they struck the woodwork shortly after Luca Kurusta's winner. He must now regroup his charges ready for the final match of The FA International U17 Tournament, against Portugal at Sixfields Stadium on Sunday.
