'Bank downgrade "shocker" aims to plant fear & panic'--Charlie McGrath

Jun 22, 2012—RussiaToday--Fifteen of the world's largest banks have been rocked by credit score downgrades, with rating agency Moody's delivering on what it had long promised to do. Those hit include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Bank of Scotland and Deutsche Bank - financial powerhouses domestically and internationally. The move could make it harder for them to keep existing clients, or attract new ones and their money. It's also feared the downgrades could trigger fresh market panic, and a new exodus to gold. For more on the possible repercussions, RT talks to Charlie McGrath, economic blogger and founder of the website 'Wide Awake News'.Copyright Russia Today 2012 § 107.Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. Rwanda 'training rebels to fight Congo army'

A group of defectors fighting for the M23 rebel movement against the Congolese army say that they were recruited and trained in neighbouring Rwanda against their will. The revelations come after weeks of fighting in the east of the country and would be the first direct evidence that Rwandan troops are involved in the fighting that has displaced thousands from their homes. The allegations made by the rebel defectors across the border in Congo will strain relations with Rwanda, but so far officials from both sides have held back, and are talking about a joint investigation to get to the bottom of the matter. Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb reports from Kigali. Related article

Bali bomb suspect Umar Patek verdict due
Bali bomb suspect Umar Patek verdict due
1:11
Umar Patek, 45, is facing six charges, several of which are terrorism-related. Prosecutors have asked for life imprisonment. He has admitted helping mix chemicals for the bombs, but said he was not involved in the attacks themselves. The bombings killed more than 200 people, most of them foreigners. The attacks targeted Paddy's Bar and the Sari Club in the resort of Kuta. Those killed were from 21 countries, including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians and 28 Britons. Three men were executed in 2008 for playing key roles in the attacks and three others have been killed in police raids. Mr Patek, whose trial began in February, was arrested in January 2011 in Abbottabad, the Pakistani town where Osama Bin Laden was later killed in a US raid. He was later extradited to Indonesia. Lawyers for Umar Patek have sought to play down his role, saying he was involved in the preparation of the blasts but not in their execution. Mr Patek himself has admitted helping to assemble the explosives, but said he was not the chief bomb maker, as prosecutors have alleged. He asked for ''forgiveness'' in court, saying he was against the attacks "from the start". Related article
