The Common Brown Rat (Wild).
The Common Brown Rat (Wild).
A wild brown rat watches me, while it tries to raid food from a rabbit hutch. This brave little fella was a frequent visitor. Hard to capture because he was nocturnal. He also gnawed a hole in our shed to get at food. Filmed with an old Hi8 camera. The brown rat is to be found in most parts of the world but is believed to have originated in eastern Asia. These are commonly found in sewers and rubbish tips. Although very lovable looking, their urine can be very dangerous. They carry many parasites. This one was in very healthy condition so we assumed a colony leader. We removed all food souces, ratty disappeared.

The Brown Rat Family-11-16-2011
I'm seeing more and more rats. This is the first time that more than one rat has been around here at a time in all the 15 years I've lived here. Must have been from the flooding or maybe the trees being chopped down in the neighbor's yard this fall. I've counted seven so far! I have started the process of trying to get rid of them. Hope it works.

The Chipmunk still is out every day. We might be getting snow soon so maybe he'll go in his den for a couple months. The one rat is still out there every day also. I like watching him. He's the lucky one.

BROWN RAT
BROWN RAT
This is a juvenile Brown Rat foraging along a rural beck. Though this one doesn't enter the water, they are extremely good swimmers, and can be found living almost anywhere. Even though young Rats are similar in size to Water Voles, they have prominent ears, a more pointed face and a virtually hairless tail.

Wanderratte / brown rat (Rattus norvegicus) *1080p HD

Molly loves Chiquita ETA: Chiquita (the rat) has sadly passed away. She had a tumor removed in December, and although she made it through the surgery a-ok, the stress from everything took it's toll and she developed a deadly respiratory infection. I had her put to sleep in Febuary '09. Thank you all for your kind comments about this video, she was a special little rat...
