Spanish Music Producers (Spanish: Productores de Música de España, shortened as PROMUSICAE) is a trade group representing the Spanish recording industry. It is the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry group for Spain.

PROMUSICAE born in the 1950s as representative of the IFPI in Spain under the name of the Spanish Group of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (Grupo Español de la Federación Internacional de la Industria Fonográfica), although not officially an association, since Spanish law during the Franco regime did not recognize the right of association until 1977. In 1978, it was registered as an association under the name Spanish Phonographic Association (Asociación Fonográfica Española) (AFE). In 1982, with the emergence and popularization of the music video, the AFE changed its name to Association of Phonographic and Videographic of Spain (Asociación Fonográfica y Videográfica de España) (AFYVE). Finally, in 2004, AFYVE partners by General Assembly decided to change to its current name, Spanish Music Producers (Productores de Música de España) (PROMUSICAE).

Since April 30, 2003, Antonio Guisasola is the president of PROMUSICAE, replacing Carlos Grande.

Charts[link]

The charts are calculated once every week on Sundays. They are based on retail music sales within Spain for the week from the preceding Saturday to the Friday prior to calculation. The new charts are usually uploaded to the official PROMUSICAE website on Sunday night Spanish continental time.

Certifications[link]

PROMUSICAE is in charge of certifying records in Spain. It certifies Gold and Platinum recordings based on the shipment of albums and the sales of digital downloads.

Albums[link]

Initially until October 2005, the certification-levels for albums in Spain were 50,000 for Gold and 100,000 for Platinum.^[1] The current levels; however, are 20,000 for Gold and 40,000 for Platinum.^[2]

Singles[link]

In January 2008, due to a decline in Physical singles, PROMUSICAE replaced the charts of the physical singles with two separate Top 20 charts, one for Digital downloads and the other for Original Tones (similar to Ringtones). The change was reflected to the certifications as well, and allowed each single title to receive two separate types of certification awards.^[7] The two certification formats were combined together in January 2009, reflecting, again, the charts becoming a single chart. In the meantime, PROMUSICAE raised the certification-levels to 20,000 for Gold and 40,000 for Platinum from the previous 10,000/20,000.^[8]

As a member of IFPI, one of the main missions of Promusicae is lobbying for tougher intellectual property laws and stopping music copyright violations.^{[citation needed]}

Promusicae has monitored P2P networks gathering data about its users downloading music. In April 2005, Promusicae claimed that they were monitoring the Kazaa P2P network and they had sent "messages" containing warnings and legal threats to more than 10.000 users^[17] In early 2008, Promusicae started a judicial process against Telefónica, the biggest Spanish Internet service provider, demanding that personal data of Kazaa users they monitored should be handed over to Promusicae, so they can start suing them. The Promusicae v. Telefónica case continued until the European Court of Justice, who sentenced that Telefónica has no obligation of handing user data over to Promusicae.^[18]

In June 2008, Promusicae sued Pablo Soto, developer of Manolito P2P, Blubster and Piolet. Promusicae claimed that Pablo Soto was engaging in unfair competition and demanded 13 million euros in damages.^[19][20]

Promusicae is one of the founders of La Coalición de Creadores e Industrias de Contenidos, a group of companies whose mission is changing Spanish law to be able to prosecute file-sharing.^[21]

Carlos Roberto Baute Jiménez (born March 8, 1974; Caracas, Venezuela), best known as Carlos Baute, is a Venezuelan singer and television host. His music is mostly in the Latin pop genre, with some ballads and Bachata.

He is the son of Alfonso Baute and Clara Jiménez and he is of Spanish (his father is from Tenerife and his maternal great-grandparents are from Galicia), Cuban (his maternal grandmother) and Venezuelan descent. At age 13, he started a band called "Los Chamos" and released an album entitled "Con un poco de Amor". He worked as a model and released his first solo album entitled "Orígenes I" in 1994. He acted in the Venezuelan telenovela, "Destino de Mujer" (1997), as Pedro José, a swimming instructor. With the album "Yo nací para querer..." (1999), he moved to Spain and had much success with all his albums. He acted in the television series "Aladinna" (TVE), "Mis Adorables Vecinos" (Antena 3) and was the host of "Gala Miss España", "Gala IB3", "Gala Fin de Año de TVE1".

Baute has released six albums, including a greatest hits album. In 2008, he released De Mi Puño Y Letra, which included "Colgando En Tus Manos". He released two versions, solo and with Marta Sanchez. The duet rose to the top of the charts in many Spanish-speaking countries worldwide.

Although well known in many Hispanic countries, he has not crossed over into many other markets.

David Bustamante Hoyos (born 25 March 1982 in San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria) is a Spanish singer.

Biography[link]

Bustamante's breakthrough was in the TV hit Operación Triunfo. This show broke ratings records as well as dominated the top position of the CD sales charts during its 5 month run. When the program ended in February 2002, David Bustamante was one of the three finalists.

Since then, Bustamante has released seven solo albums. His first CD, Bustamante, was released in May 2002 and spent many months among the top selling CDs in Spain. He followed this with a successful summer tour with over 70 concerts throughout Spain. His second album, Asi soy yo, was released in November 2003 and was produced by music industry great Emilio Estefan. Bustamante continued with Caricias al alma and Pentimento. Furthermore, he visited Latin America to promote his music.

David Bustamante has had big success in Spain and Latin America. He has sold over 1,700,000 units. His new albums Al filo de la irrealidad and A contracorriente went platinum at the top of the Spanish charts, and they were released by Universal music. In 2011 the singer has released his new album Mio with the production of Christian Leuzzi (Celine Dion's producer) and Mauri Stern. The album has become another success and is certificated Platinum.
