Boeing 747-8F Performs Ultimate Rejected Take-off
Boeing 747-8F Performs Ultimate Rejected Take-off
Imagine you're driving at the maximum speed allowed on a major highway and you have to suddenly stop the car. In April, a fully-loaded 747-8 Freighter with worn-out brakes attempted an aborted takeoff on a California runway. The rejected takeoff or maximum brake energy test is one of the most dramatic for a new airplane. It's basically what Boeing test pilot Captain Kirk Vining had to do recently with the new 747-8 Freighter during one of the most dramatic airplane certification tests. However, instead of a 4000-pound (1815 kilograms) car, the 747-8 weighed in at close to one million pounds. "In the emergency event that we have to make a rejected takeoff at these heavy weights, it takes a long distance for the airplane to stop," says Capt. Vining. The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and 747-8 Freighter are the new, high-capacity 747s that offer the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large passenger or freighter airplane. Both are on track to make their first deliveries later this year after certification. To simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO), crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes. In April, the Boeing Test & Evaluation team brought the 747-8 Freighter to a long runway in California to simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO). Crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds (443181 kilograms) and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes ...

Evergreen Airlines Boeing 747 Fire Plane Supertanker VLAT
Evergreen Airlines Boeing 747 Fire Plane Supertanker VLAT
Courtesy Evergreen International Aviation www.evergreenaviation.com The Evergreen Supertanker showed impressive results during the US Forest Service administered grid tests earlier this year. From high, medium and low coverage levels, the Supertanker showed it provides quality, consistent retardant line construction. The cutting-edge aircraft proved it belongs on the front line, from the onset, to fight wildfire day and night. The uniformed pattern of the Supertanker drops, and its ability, in a single flight, for split loads at multiple coverage levels, gives agencies an incredibly versatile firefighting tool. The multi-role B747 Supertanker is the largest tanker aircraft available today. With a payload of more than 20000 gallons and a response time of 600 mph, it has more than eight times the drop capability and twice the speed of any other federal air tanker currently fighting fires. The Supertankers patented pressurized system has the capability to disperse product at high pressure for an overwhelming response, or disperse at the speed of falling rain in a single or several segmented drops. This pressurized system will also allow for drops at higher altitudes, creating a significant safety buffer and enabling the Supertanker to fight fires during the day and at night, when they are most vulnerable. It also offers a significant value for American taxpayers; saving homes, natural resources, and most importantly, lives. When employed properly, the Supertanker has the ...

New Boeing 747-8 British Airways World Cargo 7478F G-GSSF First revenue Departure London Stansted
G-GSSF was the third Boeing 747-8F on order by Atlas Air, delivered to Global Supply Systems and operated on behalf of British Airways World Cargo. The aircraft left Seattle en-route to Hong Kong, prior to a flight to Delhi. The first scheduled arrival into Stansted was at 6:10am on Friday 30th December 2011. Despite a VERY early start for me, I arrived at the airport in the dark only to receive a message saying the flight was delayed by 3 hours! With other engagements I wasn't able to capture the arrival (see my other video for G-GSSD landing), however I did return in the afternoon and literally as we pulled up, GSSF had been pushed back so it was a very mad panic to get all the equipment setup in time for the takeoff. I was surprised that the aircraft was so much quieter, sure when it goes past it's loud, but there didn't seem so much of the ongoing roar after departure. Additionally, I thought on throttle up that the engines sounded a little like a 777. Anyway I hope you enjoy the video and please remember to view my other Youtube First of the arrival of G-GSSD here www.youtube.com
