As Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak lies in a coma in hospital, fears are mounting of a coup. The official final results of the recent elections have been delayed. They were due to be released today. Allegations of election fraud are rife. The nerves of the Egyptian people are definitely frayed. The headlines read 'Egyptians Are About To Explode' and 'Mubarak is Still Alive -- His Brain Cells are Dying'. The Election Commission has decided against releasing the final results in light of Mubarak's poor health. He's been moved from Torah prison where he'd served some of his life jail term for his part in the deaths of hundreds of anti-government protestors during the Arab Spring. He's now in a military hospital. Last night US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said the country and the military have 'a lot of work ahead' to ensure full democracy for its people It's pretty sure that until the matter is resolved and those results do turn out, the people of Egypt will be out on the square protesting tonight just as they have for the last two nights. Umar Patek, 45, is facing six charges, several of which are terrorism-related. Prosecutors have asked for life imprisonment. He has admitted helping mix chemicals for the bombs, but said he was not involved in the attacks themselves. The bombings killed more than 200 people, most of them foreigners. The attacks targeted Paddy's Bar and the Sari Club in the resort of Kuta. Those killed were from 21 countries, including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians and 28 Britons. Three men were executed in 2008 for playing key roles in the attacks and three others have been killed in police raids. Mr Patek, whose trial began in February, was arrested in January 2011 in Abbottabad, the Pakistani town where Osama Bin Laden was later killed in a US raid. He was later extradited to Indonesia. Lawyers for Umar Patek have sought to play down his role, saying he was involved in the preparation of the blasts but not in their execution. Mr Patek himself has admitted helping to assemble the explosives, but said he was not the chief bomb maker, as prosecutors have alleged. He asked for ''forgiveness'' in court, saying he was against the attacks "from the start".

The UN has demanded women, children, the elderly and injured to be evacuated from Syrian combat zones following the suspension of its observer mission. Heavy fighting continues in towns across Syria with scores of people being killed in clashes between the opposition and government troops. On Sunday, activists say regime forces tried to root out rebels from urban areas by heavy shelling in the central city of Homs. They also say that, in the town of Douma, just outside the capital Damascus, rebels opened fire on a bus of soldiers killing eight. The US is now consulting its allies on what to do about the escalation of violence, but has acknowledged a Libya-style intervention to topple the Assad government would be difficult.
