Galerie hlavního města Prahy představuje v rámci své dlouhodobé badatelské a výstavní koncepce, zaměřené na umění přelomu devatenáctého a dvacátého století, tvorbu belgického symbolisty Jeana Delvilla. Výstava je realizována díky podpoře Walonie- Bruxelles International a ve spolupráci s Muzeem Féliciena Ropse – Provincie Namur v Belgii. Jean Delville je jedním z nejpozoruhodnějších belgických umělců období symbolismu konce devatenáctého století, tzv. fin de siècle. Ve svém výtvarném díle se inspiroval literaturou a hudbou, především texty E. A. Poa nebo Maurice Maeterlincka, Dantovou Božskou komedií a operami Richarda Wagnera jako Parsifal nebo Tristan a Isolda. Proslavil se jako zručný kreslíř, byl ale také vynikající malíř s vyhraněným smyslem pro světlo a barvu, dále esejista, básník a ilustrátor. Ovlivněný myšlením francouzských literátů, Joséphinem Péladanem a Édouardem Schurém a kontakty s nimi, stává se vyznavačem ezoterismu, který ovlivňuje celou jeho tvorbu. Působí v belgické odnoži Teozofické společnosti. Provází ho závratná kariéra zednáře, která jej dovede až k postu velmistra lóže (l’Ordre de Léopold). Jako zdatný organizátor stojí u zrodu skupiny Pour L’art, vede hnutí idealistických malířů, v jehož rámci pořádá po vzoru Péladanových Salons Rose + Croix salony de l’Art idéaliste, pod pseudonymem zakládá a řídí platformu idealismu – časopis L’Art idéaliste, zakládá revue La Lumiére. Within its long-term research and exhibition concept, focusing on the art of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the Prague City Gallery presents the oeuvre of Jean Delville, a Belgian Symbolist painter. The exhibition is organized with the support of Wallonie-Bruxelles International and in collaboration with the Félicien Rops Museum in the Province of Namur in Belgium. Jean Delville is one of the most remarkable Belgian Symbolist artists of the “fin de siècle”. In his art he was inspired by literature and music, in particular by works of E. A. Poe and Maurice Maeterlinck, Dante’s Divine Comedy and Richard Wagner’s operas such as Parsifal and Tristan and Isolde. He attained fame as a skilled draftsman, but he was also an excellent painter with a strong sense of light and color, as well as an essayist, poet and illustrator. Influenced by the thinking of French writers Joséphin Péladan and Édouard Schuré and his contacts with them, he became a follower of esotericism, which affected his whole oeuvre. He was active in the Belgian branch of the Theosophical Society. He had a staggering career as a Freemason, becoming the grand master of a lodge (l’Ordre de Léopold). As an efficient organizer, he co-founded the Pour l’Art group and led the movement of idealistic artists, within the framework of which he held Salons d’Art Idéaliste along the lines of Péladan’s Salons Rose + Croix Salons. Under a pseudonym, he established and managed the platform of Idealism, the journal L’Art Idéaliste; he also founded the revue La Lumiére.
