Frederick the Great and the Enigma of Prussia • © BBC (full documentary)
The Prussian king Frederick the Great was one of the greatest warriors and leaders in modern European history, achieving greatness through the Seven Years War and lauded as a philosopher and cultured 'Prince of the Enlightenment'. Yet the reputation of both Frederick and his Prussia was to be tarnished by association with Hitler's Nazi regime. Historian Christopher Clark re-examines the life and achievements of one of Germany's most colourful and controversial leaders. Frederick the Great
Frederick the Great
Frederick the Great, King Friedrich II of Prussia, was the son of King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia, the House of Hohenzollern, and is ranked among the "Enlightened Despots" of his time due to his liberal domestic policies combined with royal absolutism. However, Frederick the Great is probably best remembered as the greatest Prussian warrior-king in German history. With the British as his only major allies he was at war with almost all the major powers of continental Europe for a time including France, Austria and Russia. He used swift movements, surprise attacks and brilliant tactical maneuvers to defeat vastly superior enemy forces, earning him an honored place in German history. He modernized his country, was religiously tolerant and a patron of the arts, especially music. He was married to Elisabeth-Christine of Brunswick-Bevern but had no children. He died in Potsdam in 1786.

Prussia's Final Sonata for Frederick II
Prussia's Final Sonata for Frederick II
Following the advice of my friends at fanfiction.net, I decided to filter out my frustrations in the form of a youtube video. An amv that I made after listening to a dub of the Vocaloid song 'The Beast', and learning more about Prussian history at the Hetalia History panel at AX 2011... Even though I wasn't able to stay for the whole thing... The song's original version can be found here: www.youtube.com The piano footage is the property of the Play By Ear piano school. Sorry about the horrible crying sfx. I needed tears but that was the only one I could find that didn't sound too bad. And I don't own any of the images either. Especially not the ones from the wonderful r-ninja of deviantart. I practically had to rape deviantart and photobucket to find all of them.
