Jack Bruce & James Vincent McMorrow - Waiting for the Day - Gerry Raferty Tribute
At celtic connections, for more go to ---- www.bbc.co.uk Bruce was born on 14 May 1943, in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire to musical parents who moved frequently, resulting in the young Bruce attending 14 different schools, ending up at Bellahouston Academy. Bruce began playing the jazz bass in his teens, and won a scholarship to study cello and musical composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, while playing in Jim McHarg's Scotsville Jazzband to support himself. The Academy disapproved of its students playing jazz, however. "They found out," Bruce told Musician correspondent Jim Macnie, "and said 'you either stop, or leave college.' So I left college." [edit] CareerAfter leaving school, he toured Italy, playing double bass with the Murray Campbell Big Band. In 1962, Jack Bruce became a member of the London-based band Blues Incorporated, led by Alexis Korner, in which he played the double bass. The band also included organist Graham Bond, saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith and drummer Ginger Baker. In 1963, the group broke up and Bruce went on to form the Graham Bond Quartet with Bond, Baker, and guitarist John McLaughlin. They played an eclectic range of music genres, including, bebop, blues and rhythm and blues. As a result of session work at this time, Bruce switched from double bass to electric bass. The move to electric bass happened as McLaughlin was dropped from the band; he was replaced by Heckstall-Smith on sax and the band pursued a more ...

Jack Bruce and his Big Blues Band - Spoonful - Birmingham 29 March 2012
The incomparable Jack Bruce with the Big Blues Band play the Town Hall, Birmingham here performing the old Willie Dixon classic "Spoonful" which was of course also performed by Jack on the Cream UK debut album 'Fresh Cream' in 1966 (but was missing from the US release of that album in 1967). In the 46 years that have elapsed Jack's virtuosity as one of the greatest bass players of all time has reached perfection whilst his blues voice just gets stronger, he is an amazing performer, supported here by a fine set of musicians including Winston Rollins whose trombone solo here is beautiful. The players are as follows Jack Bruce - Vocals / Bass / Piano Tony Remy - Guitar Frank Tontoh - Drums Paddy Milner - Piano / Keys Winston Rollins - Trombone Derek Nash - Tenor Sax Paul Newton - Trumpet Jack has tours set up on both sides of the Atlantic with this band and with other lineups during the Summer of 2012 more informaion at Jack Bruce's website at this link:- www.jackbruce.com

Jack Bruce - Sunshine Of Your Love (from "Golden Days" DVD)
This DVD contains two complete and very different concerts by Jack Bruce filmed for the German TV series Rockpalast. The first concert, filmed at the Grugahalle in Essen on 19 October 1980, features a stellar band of Clem Clempson (guitars), Billy Cobham (drums) and David Sancious (keyboards), a line-up that had come together for the album "I've Always Wanted To Do This" earlier in the year. The set features many songs from that album alongside Cream classics and other Jack Bruce solo tracks. The second concert is a completely solo performance with Jack Bruce at the piano which really emphasizes the quality of his voice and the brilliance of his songwriting. The two shows make a great combination and this a must have DVD for any Jack Bruce fan.
