Sky News: Flood warnings issued across UK
The Environment Agency (EA) has warned of localised flooding across parts of southern and eastern England, the Midlands and Wales. Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, which was devastated by flooding in July 2007, is on alert and the EA has set up an incident room there along with two others in the Midlands and another in the Wessex area. Forecasters warned that more rain is expected to fall in the coming week with southern and western areas likely to see the worst of the wet weather. After a brief respite today, more heavy showers are expected this evening and through Tuesday. The damp conditions then look set to continue right through the week. An Environment Agency spokeswoman said: "We are continuing to closely monitor the forecast and rainfall particularly in areas along the rivers Severn, Teme and Avon, including Worcestershire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire "Environment Agency teams are out on the ground continuing a close watch on river levels as well as checking defences and clearing any potential blockages to reduce the risk of flooding." Ian Lock, landlord of the Boat Inn at Ashleworth, which is south of Tewkesbury next to the River Severn, said the water was "worryingly high". "If we'd had a high tide on Saturday night we would have had trouble - thankfully we didn't - just another three or four feet and we would have had problems. "We still could flood, the worry is if other towns further up the river put their flood defences up the water will come ...

BREAKING NEWS: Over 170 killed as tsunami-like flood hits southern Russia July 7, 2012
More than 140 people have been killed in a devastating flood in Russia's southern Krasnodar region. It's the worst of its kind in nearly a century, and the death toll continues to rise. Russia's Interior Ministry has confirmed a total 144 deaths, but that number is likely to rise. Up to 13000 people have been affected by the disaster. A state of emergency has been declared in the cities of Krymsk, Novorossiysk, and Gelendzhik. In the Krymsky district alone, at least 130 bodies have been recovered. Two more have died in Novorossiysk, and nine more in the Gelendzhik district. A 10-year-old child was among the victims. The speed of the flood was shocking, carrying away not only homes, but 16-ton trucks as well. One driver said his truck was literally carried tens of meters by the waters. In a separate incident, a nine-year-old girl was ripped from her mother and sister's arms by the force of the current. Emergencies Ministry rescue teams and helicopters have been dispatched to the scene in order to join the rescue and repair efforts already underway in the region. Over 10000 rescue officers and 140 helicopters are currently working at the scene. Krasnodar regional authorities have declared July 9 a day of mourning. Man electrocuted as four die trying to save him Five people in Gelendzhik were electrocuted to death after a wire fell into the water. At Least 400 'Killed In Philippine Flood -- News Story
Philippines Floods Kill More Than 400 thoughts Reports say in the Philippines pounding rain from a tropical storm swelled rivers and sent walls of water crushing into two southern Philippine cities in the thick of night, killing at least 436 people, many caught in their beds reports say The Philippine Red Cross Secretary said that the latest toll was based on a body count in funeral parlors. It was said that 215 died in Cagayan de Oro and 144 in nearby Iligan, and the rest in several other southern and central provinces.Reports say most of the dead were asleep Friday night when raging floodwaters tore through their homes from swollen rivers and cascaded from mountain slopes following 12 hours of pounding rain in the southern Mindanao region. Many of the bodies in parlors were unclaimed, indicating that entire families had perished, reports say The number of missing was unclear Saturday night. Before the latest Red Cross figures a military spokesman said about 250 people were still unaccounted for in Iligan.Thousands of soldiers backed up by hundreds of local police, reservists, coast guard officers and civilian volunteers were mobilized for rescue efforts and to clean up after the massive deluge that left the two coastal cities strewn with debris, trash, overturned vehicles and toppled trees. Many roads were cut off and there was no electricity, hampering relief efforts. Some of the dead were swept out to sea from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, which are intersected by rivers ...

Over a hundred killed as Tsunami like Floods hit southern Russia overnight (July 7, 2012)
(July 7, 2012) 'Unimaginable' Chaos as Worst floods in decades hit Russia! At least 99 people died last night; as a month's amount of rain fell in within hrs. floodwaters surge through southern Russia's Krasnodar region, Russia's Interior Ministry said Saturday. Of those killed, 88 are in the Krymsk district, nine in Gelendzhik district and two in the Black Sea port of Novorossiisk, the ministry said. The flash floods follow heavy rains in the area since Friday. The Krymsk district is a mostly rural area with many one-storey homes, Russia's state news agency Itar-Tass reported. Flood waters rose 7 meters (23 feet) overnight in Krymsk, the news agency said, flooding homes while most people were still asleep. Others were rescued by police after seeking refuge on roofs and in trees, it said. The death toll has climbed steadily through the day. Television footage from the Krasnodar region showed scenes of flooded streets, stranded vehicles and people wading through torrents of knee-deep muddy water outside homes. The state-run Ria Novosti news agency said dozens of passenger trains have been diverted in the region as the water level remains 19 inches above the tracks. www.cnn.com

Russia Flash Floods 2012, 134 Killed In Krasnodar Region
Flash floods caused by torrential rain have swept the southern Russian Krasnodar region, killing 134 people, officials say. The floods, the worst there in living memory, struck at night, reportedly without warning. TV pictures showed people scrambling onto their rooftops to escape. President Vladimir Putin has flown over the region by helicopter and has had emergency talks with officials in the worst-hit town of Krymsk. Most of those who died were in and around Krymsk, a town of 57000 people. But nine deaths were reported in the Black Sea resort of Gelendzhik with a further two in the port town of Novorossiysk. Russian TV showed thousands of houses in the region almost completely submerged and police said many of the victims were elderly people who had been asleep at the time. "Our house was flooded to the ceiling," Krymsk pensioner Lidiya Polinina told the Agence France-Presse news agency. "We broke the window to climb out. I put my five-year-old grandson on the roof of our submerged car, and then we somehow climbed up into the attic." Dozens of people are reportedly missing, and there are fears that the death toll will rise further. Emergency teams have been sent from Moscow by plane and helicopter. Crude oil shipments from Novorossiysk have been suspended.
