Dream Theater - As I Am Progressive Metal Lyrics: [Lyrics by John Petrucci] Don't Tell me what's in Tell me how to write Don't tell me how to win This fight Isn't your life It isn't your right To take the only thing that's Mine Proven over time It's over your head Don't try to read between the Lines Are clearly defined Never lose sight of Something you believe in Takin' in the view from the outside Feeling like the underdog Watching through the window I'm on the outside Living like the underdog I've been trying to justify you In the end I will just defy you To those who understand, I extend my hand To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am Not under your command, I know where I stand I won't change to fit your plan, Take me as I am As I am Still Running uphill Swimming against the current I wish I weren't so Fucked Feels like I'm stuck Lost in a sea of mediocrity ''Slow down, You're thinking too much Where is your soul?'' You cannot touch The way I Play Or tell me what to say You're in the way Of all that I believe in Takin' in the view from the outside Feeling like the underdog Watching through the window I'm on the outside Living like the underdog I've been wasting my breath on you Open minds will descend upon you To those who understand, I extend my hand To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am Not under your command, I know where I stand I won't change to fit your plan, take me as I am

Who am I? That the Lord of all the earth, Would care to know my name, Would care to feel my hurt. Who am I? That the bright and morning star, Would choose to light the way, For my ever wondering heart. Not because of who I am. But because of what you've done. Not because of what I've done. But because of who you are. Chorus: I am a flower quickly fading, Here today and gone tomorrow. A wave tossed in the ocean, A vapor in the wind. Still you hear me when I'm calling, Lord you catch me when I'm falling, And you told me who I am. I am yours. I am yours. Who am I? That the eyes that see my sin Would look on me with love And watch me rise again Who am I? That the voice that calm the sea, Would call out through the rain, And calm the storm in me. Not because of who I am. But because what of youve done. I am yours. Not because of who I am. But because of what you've done. Not because of what I've done. But because of who you are. Chorus: I am a flower quickly fading, Here today and gone tomorrow. A wave tossed in the ocean, A vapor in the wind. Still you hear me when I'm calling, Lord you catch me when I'm falling, You told me who I am. I am yours. I am yours. Whom shall I fear? The Jonas Brothers originally started as an attempted solo singing career for Nick, but the record producer liked the sound when his brothers sang backup for him. He previously starred in the Disney Channel original series JONAS L.A. as Nick Lucas, alongside his brothers. He also starred in the Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. He formed the band Nick Jonas & The Administration, which released its first album in 2010.

[edit] Personal life

Jonas was born in Dallas, Texas.[2] His mother, Denise (née Miller), is a former sign language teacher and singer, and his father, Paul Kevin Jonas, Sr., is a songwriter, musician, and former ordained minister at an Assemblies of God church.[3][4][5][6] He was raised in Wyckoff, New Jersey and homeschooled by his mother. Nick is of Italian (from a great-grandfather), German, Irish, English, Cherokee, and French-Canadian descent.[7][8]

Jonas was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of thirteen and wears an OmniPod insulin pump to help him manage his condition.[9] He has developed the Change for the Children Foundation. Partnering with five different charities, their goal is to raise money and awareness for diabetes.[10] He also developed a public service announcement with the Washington Nationals to support diabetes care at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.[11]

Since August 6, 2008, Bayer Diabetes Care has partnered with Jonas as a diabetes ambassador to promote the idea for young people to manage their diabetes.[12] Jonas testified in the U.S. Senate to promote more research funding for the condition.[13] Nick is also is a member of the National Youth Leadership Committee for the Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration, along with Jordin Sparks, Genevieve Ryan, and Brodi Conover.[14][15][16]

Singer and actress Miley Cyrus has stated that she dated Jonas from June 2006 to December 2007. Cyrus claimed they were "in love" and began dating soon after they first met.[17][18] Jonas dated Australian actress and singer Delta Goodrem from May 2011 to February 2012.[19][20]

[edit] Acting

[edit] Theatre

Jonas's career started when he was discovered at the age of six in a barber shop, while his mother was getting her hair cut and was referred to a professional show business manager.[21][22] At the age of 7, he began performing on Broadway.[23][24] He had acted in several plays, including A Christmas Carol (in 2000 as Tiny Tim and Scrooge at eight), Annie Get Your Gun (in 2001 as Little Jake), Beauty and the Beast (in 2002 as Chip), and Les Misérables (in 2003 as Gavroche).[24][25][26][27] After Les Misérables closed, he performed in The Sound of Music (as Kurt) at the Paper Mill Playhouse.[28]

On June 21, 2010, Jonas made his West End debut performing in Les Misérables for the second time, but this time as the role of Marius Pontmercy.[29] Jonas was originally supposed to play the role for only three weeks, but was able to extend his run until July 24, 2010, because of changes in the Jonas Brothers tour schedule.[30] He also appeared in the 25th Anniversary Concert at The O2 Arena on October 3, 2010, again playing the role of Marius Pontmercy.[31]

From August 5–7, 2011, Jonas performed in the musical Hairspray as Link Larkin at the Hollywood Bowl.[32] On September 7, 2011, Jonas announced through twitter he will be on Broadway again in 2012 in the musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" starring as J. On August 17, 2007, Jonas, along with his brothers, guest starred in an episode of Hannah Montana, which aired after the premiere of High School Musical 2 and the Disney Channel show Phineas and Ferb.[34] The episode broke basic cable records with a record 10.7 million viewers and became basic cable's most watched series telecast ever.[35]

Jonas and his brothers filmed a Disney Channel Original Movie called Camp Rock where they play a band called "Connect Three." Joe plays the lead male role as lead singer "Shane Gray"; Nick plays the role of "Nate," a guitarist; and Kevin plays the role of "Jason," also a guitarist. A soundtrack for the movie was released on June 17, 2008. The movie premiered on June 20, 2008, in the USA on Disney Channel, and Canada on Family. Production began on the sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in September 2009 and it premiered during the summer of 2010.

The reality short series, Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream, premiered on Disney Channel on May 16, 2008. The show, which ran until September 5, 2008, documents the brothers' lives on the Look Me In The Eyes Tour. The name was inspired by the band's hit song "When You Look Me in the Eyes". The series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on March 21, 2010.[36] The second season follows the band on the European leg of their World Tour 2009.

Jonas and his brothers previously starred in the Disney Channel Original Series JONAS about a pop band trying to live a normal life, which premiered May 2, 2009 and concluded on March 14, 2010. Filming for the second season began in February 2010. The second season was renamed Jonas L.A., and premiered on June 20, 2010. On November 8, 2010, it was announced that the series had been cancelled.[37]

Jonas appeared in the 2011 series Mr. Sunshine; he played Eli White, an up-and-coming singer who wants everything his way before he performs at the Sunshine Center.[38] He also plays the role of Ryan on the sitcom Last Man Standing.[39][40] In February 2012, he appeared in episode of Smash in the role of Lyle West, a young musician and television star backing a promising Boradway musical;[41][42] Jonas will reprise the role of Lyle West in the show's season finale on May 14.[43][44] Nick will star in the eight episode of the second season of Submissions Only wich will air april 27th, 2012.[45] Starting on August 19, 2012, the eldest Jonas brother will appear in an E! reality series[46] alongside his wife Danielle and brothers Nick and Joe. Produced by Ryan Seacrest, "Married to Jonas" will document the young couple's domestic life as well as the brothers' recording efforts as they prepare to release their newest group album.[47][48][49]

[edit] Solo artist

In 2002, while performing in Beauty and the Beast, Nick had written a song with his father called "Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)." With background vocals from the Beauty and the Beast cast, Nick performed the song on the 2002 annual Broadway "Equity Fights AIDS" album, Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4.[50][51] In November 2003, INO Records received a demo copy of "Joy To The World (A Christmas Prayer)".[52] The label released the song to Christian radio, where it quickly became popular on Record & Radio's Christian Adult Contemporary Chart.[51] While Nick was working on his solo project, Joe followed in his footsteps to Broadway, appearing in Baz Luhrmann's production of La Boheme.

By September 2004, an executive at Columbia Records found out about Nick's song.[50][51] Nick was soon jointly signed to INO Records and Columbia Records and released the single "Dear God".[53][54] A second single, "Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)" (a new solo recording), was released on November 16.[55] It was supposed to be followed by a December release of a self-titled solo album Nicholas Jonas, but the album was pushed back.[56] It did, however, get a limited release.[57] Nick, along with Kevin and Joe, had written several other songs for the album.[50]

In early 2005, Columbia Records' new president, Steve Greenberg, listened to Nick's record. While Greenberg did not like the album, he did like Nick's voice.[58]

On February 19, 2012 Nick reccorded 5 songs ("How to Succeed," "I Believe in You," and "Brotherhood of Man." In addition, he will be joined by Rob Bartlett for "The Company Way," and by Rose Hemingway for "Rosemary.") for the How To Succeed in Business Soundtrack which will be released May 8.[59][60][61]

On February 27, 2012 he covered "Michael Bublé's" song "Haven't Met You Yet" in the TV series Smash. The Cover was released as an single;[62][63] and will appear on the series soundtrack.[64] He also sang a part in the Smash song "I Never Met A Wolf Who Didn't Love To Howl"; which was also released as an single.[65][63]

[edit] Nick Jonas & the Administration

Jonas is currently working on a side project from the Jonas Brothers called "Nick Jonas and the Administration". Their debut album Who I Am was released February 2, 2010. The band members consist of Tommy Barbarella on keyboard, Michael Bland on drums, John Fields on bass, and David Ryan Harris on guitar.[66] Although David Ryan Harris recorded guitar in the studio for Who I Am he was unable to go on tour with the rest of band and was ultimately replaced by Sonny Thompson.

In January 2010, Jonas embarked on the Who I Am Tour with the Administration.[67] This was Jonas' first tour without his brothers. The tour consisted of 22 dates that began on January 2, 2010, in Dallas, Texas and concluded on January 30, 2010, in Berkeley, California.

In September 2011 and October 2011, Nick Jonas & The Administration began touring through South America in support of their debut album, Who I Am.[68]

It was anounced on May 2nd, 2012 that the he part ways with their record label Hollywood Records; he bought the rights of their music.[69][70]

[edit] Jonas Brothers

After meeting with Jonas and hearing the song, "Please Be Mine", written and performed by the brothers, Daylight/Columbia Records decided to sign the three as a group act.[50][71][72] After being signed to Columbia, the brothers considered naming their group "Sons of Jonas" before settling on the name "Jonas Brothers."[73]

It's About Time, the brothers' first album was released on August 8, 2006.[74] According to the band's manager, it was only a "limited release" of a little over 50,000 copies. Because Sony was not interested in further promoting the band, the Jonas Brothers considered switching labels. The band was ultimately dropped by Columbia Records in early 2007.

After shortly being without a label, the Jonas Brothers signed with Hollywood Records in February 2007.[75][76] Around the same time, brothers began appearing in commercials for Baby Bottle Pops, singing the jingle.[76] Their self-titled second album, Jonas Brothers, was released on August 7, 2007.[77] It reached number five on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week. It has since sold over three million copies worldwide.

The Jonas Brothers' third studio album, A Little Bit Longer, was released in the United States on August 12, 2008. It sold over 2 million copies worldwide. The Jonas Brothers were listed number 9 on the richest pop acts of 2008. The Jonas Brothers' fourth studio album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, was released in the United States in June, 2009.

On March 6, 2012, the Jonas Brothers released a video on Twitter of them in their home studio, along with the hashtag "#JonasBrothers2012", further suggesting that a reunion was occurring.[78] It was anounced on May 2nd, 2012 that the Jonas Brothers part ways with their record label Hollywood Records; they bought the rights of their music.[79][80]

[edit] Life and career

Brickell was born in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. She attended high school at the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts[1] in Dallas. She attended Southern Methodist University for a year and a half. In 1985, she made the decision one night in a bar to get up on stage with a local folk rock group, New Bohemians. She would join the band as lead singer. After the band was signed to a recording contract, the label changed the group's name to Edie Brickell & New Bohemians. Their 1988 debut album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars became a critical and commercial success, with the big hit, "What I Am". The band's follow-up album, Ghost of a Dog (1990), did not fare as well.[2] As a solo artist, Brickell released Picture Perfect Morning (1994) and Volcano (2003). In 2006 she reunited with some of the original members of New Bohemians and they released the album Stranger Things.[3]

In late 2007, Brickell and her stepson Harper Simon formed the band The Heavy Circles. They released a single on iTunes entitled "Hands On." The Heavy Circles released a debut album on February 12, 2008, featuring Sean Lennon, Martha Wainwright, and members of Cibo Matto.[4]

In 2010, Brickell became a founding member of new band The Gaddabouts, consisting of Steve Gadd - drums, Edie Brickell - lead vocal, guitar, Andy Fairweather Low - electric & acoustic guitars, background vocals, Pino Palladino - bass, guitar, also featuring Dan Block, Ronnie Cuber, Joey DeFrancesco, Gil Goldstein, Marcus Rojas.http://www.thegaddabouts.com/the-band/

Brickell had a role as a folk singer in the 1989 film, Born on the Fourth of July. Her version of Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" is featured on the film's soundtrack. She also sang a cover version of Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side in the 1990 film Flashback. Her "Good Times" video was included as part of the multimedia samples on the Windows 95 installation CD-ROM.[5]

Her father, Eddie Brickell, "the Fort Worth Southpaw", was posthumously inducted into the Texas State Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1988.[6]

Brickell married singer-songwriter Paul Simon on May 30, 1992.[7] Brickell was performing on NBC's Saturday Night Live on Saturday November 5, 1988 when she noticed Simon standing in front of the cameraman. "He made me mess the song up when I looked at him," she said with a smile. "We can show the kids the tape and say, 'Look, that's when we first laid eyes on each other.'" Brickell and Simon have three children—Adrian, Lulu and Gabriel.[8]

In 2011, Edie wrote the title track “The Meaning of Life” for writer/director Tamar Halpern’s film Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life.

[edit] Biography

[edit] Early Life

Raised in Amsterdam, Simons grew up in a family of musicians, with a pianist father and vocalist mother. Simons is a classically trained pianist and has been writing compositions since she was a child, getting her first record deal at the age of 13. She is also a graduate from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.[1]

In 2004, Eva decided to audition for the Dutch "Popstars the Rivals". She became a part of the the girl group "Raffish", receiving a golden record and several number 1 hits before leaving the group to pursue a solo career.

[edit] 2009-present: Rise to fame, Silly Boy and Debut Album

In 2009, Eva’s song “Silly Boy” gained popularity on the Internet. The song became one of the most notorious tracks online, generating over 20+ million views. After this success, she signed a worldwide deal at EMI. The song actually started out life as a demo idea for another high profile US female act, and gained much notoriety after Kayne West posted it in his blog, with Eva's vocal, and incorrect credits for the songs performer.

In mid 2010, Eva & Mike Hamilton (also known as the writing team Topline Ink) wrote the song “Take Over Control”. They played the idea to DJ Afrojack, who produced the hit single, which spent 6 weeks on the Billboard Top Dance Airplay Chart, topped iTunes dance charts globally, and gained Platinum status in Australia and certified Gold in the US. The song has become a globally dance crossover anthem, propelling the profiles of both Eva and Afrojack worldwide.

In 2011, as well as touring across the globe, Simons has gone on to sign a major label US deal, and is featured on LMFAO's track "Best Night". In addition to this, Eva has also collaborated with Will.i.am on tracks for his upcoming solo album.

In early March 2012, it was announced that Eva Simons will join LMFAO in the North American "Sorry For Party Rocking" tour.[2]

On March 20, 2012, Simons premiered her new single, "I Don't Like You", which was released in most countries on March 26 under Interscope Records. The track is produced by Zedd.

Some members of the band currently work as ministers for Eagles Landing First Baptist Church in Stockbridge, Georgia.[2]

[edit] History

[edit] Formation and self-titled debut

Christian rock group Casting Crowns began as a student worship band in Daytona Beach, FL, in 1999. Led by singer, songwriter, and youth pastor Mark Hall, the group initially included guitarists Juan DeVevo and Hector Cervantes and violinist Melodee DeVevo. The group relocated to Stockbridge, GA, in 2001, adding Chris Huffman on bass, Megan Garrett on keyboards and accordion, and drummer Andy Williams. This augmented version of Casting Crowns released two independent albums on CD, both of which were well received in the Atlanta area. Both independent albums were efforts on the part of Mark Hall and the rest of the group as outreach projects for youth in the area.[3] The group won the GMA regional songwriters competition at Palm Beach Atlantic University, West Palm Beach, Florida in both the "Best Song" and the "Best Artist" categories in 2004. Although the group was not searching for a record label, one of the group's albums found its way into the hands of Mark Miller, lead singer for country group Sawyer Brown, who was struck by Casting Crowns' driving pop/rock style and Hall's vocal delivery of his hard-hitting but devout songs. Miller signed Casting Crowns to his fledgling Beach Street Records, a division of Reunion Records with distribution by the Provident Label Group, making Casting Crowns the first artist signed to Beach Street Records.[4]

Mark Miller took the group into the studio along with co-producer Steven Curtis Chapman, himself a popular artist on the CCM musical scene. The resulting eponymous album, Casting Crowns, was released in 2003 on the Beach Street imprint. The album quickly made them one of the fastest selling debut artists in Christian music history. The album's third single, "Voice of Truth", spent a record-breaking fourteen consecutive weeks at #1 beginning in 2003. "Voice of Truth" is also by the trailer and the ending from the movie Facing the Giants. The album was certified platinum in 2005,[5] and in 2011, the group received their first gold certification for a single for the song 'Who Am I' from their debut record.

Lifesong followed in 2005, debuting at #9 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. The album had three singles: “Lifesong”, “Praise You in this Storm”, and “ Does Anybody Hear Her?”. "Lifesong" spent nine weeks in the top spot, with "Praise You in This Storm" remaining at #1 for seven weeks. Apart from being successful in the charts, Lifesong earned Casting Crowns their first Grammy Award for their work on the album in 2006.

In 2006, the group released Lifesong Live, which included live performances of songs from their studio album Lifesong.

[edit] The Altar and the Door and The Altar and the Door Live (2007-2008)

The band's third studio album The Altar and the Door debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart[6] and #1 on the Hot Christian Albums chart upon its release in August 2007. Ten weeks after the album’s release date, it was certified gold by the RIAA.[7] On September 27, 2007 the band embarked on the ‘Altar and the Door’ tour with Leeland and John Waller . The tour was highly successful, grossing $4.4 million ticket sales.[8] Casting Crowns broke their own record in 2007 when the single "East to West" from The Altar and the Door hit sixteen consecutive weeks at #1. The song ended up enjoying the top spot for a total of nineteen weeks, now their most successful single to date. "Slow Fade" was also released as a single, and was included in the soundtrack of the Kirk Cameron film Fireproof.

In 2008, Casting Crowns scored their eighth number one hit with "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day", a track from their newly-released Christmas album entitled Peace on Earth.

[edit] Until the Whole World Hears (2009-2011)

In early 2009, drummer Andy Williams left to pursue a further calling with blessings from the band. The drummer was replaced with Brian Scoggin and his red locks of hair, an irony Mark mentions on tour.

Casting Crowns was one of the only American bands to ever have been invited to North Korea. They attended the 2009 April Spring Arts Festival in Pyongyang where they performed with The Annie Moses Band. This was Casting Crowns second time invited to the Festival sponsored by Global Resource Services, the first time being in 2007.[9][10] On August 30, 2009 Casting Crowns performed on Huckabee, Mike Huckabee's political show.

Casting Crown's fourth major studio album, Until the Whole World Hears, was released on November 17, 2009, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 167,000 copies in its first week alone, setting a new record for the highest Christian album debut in history.[11] It was certified gold within 4 weeks.[12] The title track and first single from the album became the groups ninth #1 single in January 2010. Before the album was released, the band went on tour with Matt Redman for the fall Until The Whole World Hears Tour. They went on the first spring leg of the tour with Kutless, and toured with Tenth Avenue North on the second spring leg.

In April 2010, Casting Crowns won the Dove Award for Artist of the Year, their first ever win in that category. A music video for the title track of Until the Whole World Hears was posted on the band's YouTube page on August 23, 2010.

The track Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me) was released as a single in 2011 and reached #1 on Billboard Christian Songs during the week of April 23, 2011.

[edit] Come to the Well (2011-present)

Casting Crowns' latest song, "Courageous", was released as a single on July 19, 2011. The music video for the song was released on June 13, 2011 and promotes the film Courageous. The song was featured on their latest album, Come to the Well, which was released on October 18, 2011.

[edit] Ministry

Casting Crowns frontman Mark Hall calls the band's work a ministry akin to what the world would call "preaching to the choir." In keeping with The Great Commission, Hall describes their music as a "ministry of discipleship."

Four members of Casting Crowns currently minister at Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, GA where they play during the Contemporary Worship service on Sunday mornings. They do the band part-time around their full-time work of mentoring teenagers at the church.[2] They often tour from Thursday- Saturday so that they can be home for church on Sunday morning and Wednesday night.[13]
