The Vedic religion is an ancient, intricate, and beautiful one. For thousands of years its texts have been studied, and its rituals enacted. It is in the rituals that it's survived the most, but that's where it heart always was.
Vedism is worth learning about on its own, but anyone who wants to understand any of the Indo-European traditions will want to know about it -- yes, it will help you figure out the Celts -- and if you want to know about ritual it's a great place to start.

Yama is a heavy rock band from Tilburg/Utrecht, NL.
Yama has many meanings. Yama is the God of Death and Illusion in Tibetan Vedism, the Japanese word for mountain, Papiamento for shouting, and Sanskrit for ban or prohibition. Now we can add a meaning in Dutch as well: the stoner/doom colossus from Tilburg home of Roadburn. Yama draws deeply from eastern mysteries, warps them into fuzz driven loudness, and drives them home with riffs and grooves the size of mountains.
Yama has been off to one hell of a start. The Seaquake demo EP got raving reviews from critics around the world and quickly sold out twice: first as a self-released demo EP and then with another run released through Mind Flare Media. Yama soon shared the stage with bands like Saint Vitus, Graveyard and Orange Goblin, toured with Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and performed at the renowned Roadburn, Freak Valley and Yellowstock festivals.
In 2013, Yama recorded their debut album: Ananta. Ananta is a showcase of Yama's sound and song writing abilities. Delving deep into doom, stoner and grunge, Yama has a taste for heaviness and a feel for the psychedelic. They bring heavy riffs and grooves to keep your head banging, with twists to keep you on your toes. Their songs get their heart and soul in jam sessions and their balls from condensing them to their essence. Ananta will be released December 1st 2014.

Historical Vedic religion
The religion of the Vedic period (also known as Vedism, ancient Hinduism, Brahmanism and Vedic Brahmanism) was the religion of the Indo-Aryans of northern India. It is a historical predecessor of modern Hinduism, though significantly different from it.
The Vedic liturgy is conserved in the mantra portion of the four Vedas, which are compiled in Sanskrit. The religious practices centered on a clergy administering rites. The complex Vedic rituals of Śrauta continue in coastal Andhra.
Scholars consider Vedic religion to have been a composite of the Indo-Aryan and Harappan cultures.
Origins
The commonly proposed period of earlier Vedic age is dated back to 2nd millennium BCE. The Vedic religion was the religion of the Indo-Aryans, and existed in northern India from c. 1750 to 500 BCE. The Indo-Aryans were a branch of the Indo-European language family, which originated in the Kurgan culture of the Central Asian steppes. bringing with them their language and religion. They were closely related to the Indo-Aryans who founded Mitanni kingdom in northern Syria (ca.1500-1300 BCE). Both groups were rooted in the Andronovo-culture in the Bactria-Margiana era, in present northern Afghanistan, and related to the Indo-Iranians, from which they split-off around 1800-1600 BCE. Their roots go back further to the Sintashta culture, with funeral sacrifices which show close parallels to the sacrificial funeral rites of the Rig Veda.
The immigrations consisted probably of small groups of people.Jonathan Mark Kenoyer notes that "there is no archaeological or biological evidence for invasions or mass migrations into the Indus Valley between the end of the Harappan phase, about 1900 B.C. and the beginning of the Early Historic period around 600 B.C."

Yama is a heavy rock band from Tilburg/Utrecht, NL.
Yama has many meanings. Yama is the God of Death and Illusion in Tibetan Vedism, the Japanese word for mountain, Papiamento for shouting, and Sanskrit for ban or prohibition. Now we can add a meaning in Dutch as well: the stoner/doom colossus from Tilburg home of Roadburn. Yama draws deeply from eastern mysteries, warps them into fuzz driven loudness, and drives them home with riffs and grooves the size of mountains.
Yama has been off to one hell of a start. The Seaquake demo EP got raving reviews from critics around the world and quickly sold out twice: first as a self-released demo EP and then with another run released through Mind Flare Media. Yama soon shared the stage with bands like Saint Vitus, Graveyard and Orange Goblin, toured with Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and performed at the renowned Roadburn, Freak Valley and Yellowstock festivals.
In 2013, Yama recorded their debut album: Ananta. Ananta is a showcase of Yama's sound and song writing abilities. Delving deep into doom, stoner and grunge, Yama has a taste for heaviness and a feel for the psychedelic. They bring heavy riffs and grooves to keep your head banging, with twists to keep you on your toes. Their songs get their heart and soul in jam sessions and their balls from condensing them to their essence. Ananta will be released December 1st 2014.
