TRAPEZE (1956) film highlights - Gina Lollobrigida, Tony Curtis +
Part 2 of my Harold Hecht producer tribute. 1956 extravaganza about a trapeze act in a Paris circus. Burt Lancaster had in real life been a trapeze acrobat. Hecht produced several genre classics between the 1940s and 1970s including The Crimson Pirate (1952), Apache (1954), Run Silent Run Deep, Taras Bulba, Cat Ballou.

The Shadows - Apache (Original Stereo)
"Apache" was composed by guitarist Jerry Lordan who was inspired to write it by the 1954 film of the same name. The British instrumental group The Shadows were touring with Jerry when he played it for them, and ultimately they recorded this version which was a big hit in the UK, during the summer months of 1960. A few months after the release of this recording, Jorgen Ingmann covered the song and took it to #2 in the US in February of 1961. Today this song is considered one of the greatest guitar tracks ever recorded.

The Crazy Gang - Apache Dance
The Crazy Gang intro and including the speciality Apache Dance taken from Okay For Sound 1937 - ouch!!! Thanks to the research of recneps2001, in January 2008 we learned the following: They are Lucienne and Ashour, first recorded performing this speciality act in Berlin's Wintergarden Theatre in 1931, so presumably German. They are also in London in 1936 at the Palace Theatre, possibly after moving from Paris, since they are billed as French Boy and Girl. They appeared in this Crazy Gang film in 1937 after performing with them on the London stage, but the next mention of them is wartime, 1940-41, in San Francisco. Their other film performances are in Alan Dwan's 1943 Around the World and two Hollywood films in 1950, Chain Lightning (with Bogart) and Woman of Distinction, with Rosalind Russell. In 1952, they are billed in a nightclub in Boston with the surname Hockney. They may have signed off on comedian and chatshow host George Jewell's final TV show in 1954. I suspect they may be Jewish, their moves suggesting they were keeping one step ahead of Hitler. If any of their surviving family or friends have further information, or anyone can trace these film titles, I'd be pleased to hear. I can provide an address if confidentiality is required.

Dad playing Apache on a 1954 FENDER CORANADO (before the Strat)
My Dad Ken Walker playing APACHE. He would play this song for me when I was Just a little girl. One of my very most treasured memories in life growing up was to watch my Dad paly this amazing guitar, A 1954 FENDER CORANADO . I LOVED and still LOVE to watch him play as he slips into a world all his own! As far back as I can remember, he has had this guitar and as far back as I remember I would sit and watch him play. One Christmas, about 5 years ago, he presented me with this guitar. I now own my favorite childhood memory! Thanks dad! It will never leave my possesion. Congrats Dad you now have your OWN MUSIC VIDEO on the internet! * Love ya, Tammy!

The Apache Railway 2006
Snowflake, AZ lived up to its name the first week of April '06 with temps in the 30's & winds pushing 30 as well (unfortunately evident in some clips). Here you will see a normal Monday interchange (with empty coal) from the Snowflake Paper Mill to BNSF at Holbrook, including a side trip to the businesses in Snowflake proper, then an extra Tuesday run to pick up the balance of a 90-car grain train then, the same day, a loaded coal train with mixed freight that required six of APA's seven active MLW/ALCo motors (of L&N/N&W/CP heritage). APA's regular Mon-Wed-Fri runs to Holbrook date back to 1954.

APACHE The Shadows
"Apache" is an instrumental written by Jerry Lordan. It has been recorded by many artists, but the first released version was recorded by British group The Shadows in June 1960 and released the following month. The song topped the UK singles chart for five weeks. In March 2005, Q magazine placed "Apache" at number 96 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. In North America, The Shadows' original version is unknown, and the song is identified with Jørgen Ingmann, a jazz guitarist from Denmark. In 1961, Ingmann produced a cover version that, billed to "Jørgen Ingmann and His Guitar," made number two on the US pop chart, and number one on Canada's CHUM Chart. A 1973 version by the Incredible Bongo Band has been called "hip-hops national anthem". Although this version was not a hit on release, the long percussion break in the middle has been sampled countless times on hip-hop, rap and dance tracks from the 1980s. Jerry Lordan came up with the tune. "Apache" reflects the source of Lordan's inspiration: the 1954 American western film Apache. The original recording was by British guitarist Bert Weedon in early 1960. It remained unreleased for several months. In the mid-1960 The Shadows were on tour with Lordan as a supporting act. The band discovered "Apache" when Lordan played it on a ukelele. Lordan figured the tune would fit The Shadows; the band agreed. After the Shadows version began its rise up the UK charts, Weedon's original climbed to #24 in the UK. However ...
