The Book of Kells
The Book of Kells (Irish: Leabhar Cheanannais) (Dublin, Trinity College Library, MS AI (58), sometimes known as the Book of Columba) is an illuminated manuscript in Latin, containing the four Gospels of the New Testament together with various prefatory texts and tables. It was transcribed by Celtic monks ca. 800. The text of the Gospels is largely drawn from the Vulgate, although it also includes several passages drawn from the earlier versions of the Bible known as the Vetus Latina. It is a masterwork of Western calligraphyand represents the pinnacle of Insular illumination. It is also widely regarded as Ireland's finest national treasure. The illustrations and ornamentation of the Book of Kells surpass that of other Insular Gospels in extravagance and complexity. The decoration combines traditional Christian iconography with the ornate swirling motifs typical of Insular art. Figures of humans, animals and mythical beasts, together with Celtic knots and interlacing patterns in vibrant colours, enliven the manuscript's pages. Many of these minor decorative elements are imbued with Christian symbolism and so further emphasise the themes of the major illustrations. The manuscript today comprises 340 folios and, since 1953, has been bound in four volumes. The leaves are on high-quality calf vellum, and the unprecedentedly elaborate ornamentation that covers them includes ten full-page illustrations and text pages that are vibrant with historiated initials and interlinear ...

Lindisfarne Gospels
The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated Latin manuscript of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the British Library. The manuscript was produced on Lindisfarne in Northumbria in the late 7th century or early 8th century, and is generally regarded as the finest example of the kingdom's unique style of religious art, a style that combined Anglo-Saxon and Celtic themes, what is now called Hiberno-Saxon art, or Insular art.[1] The manuscript is complete (though lacking its original cover), and is astonishingly well-preserved considering its great age.

Celtic Knot
I apologize in advance for the crappy lighting and quality. Luckily this was mainly black and white so the fact that the colours are all out of whack didn't matter too much ^_^ Bit messier than I wanted tho...my hand was not being very steady X( Freaking love celtic knots - I can look at this artwork endlessly. I know my look isn't a proper knot in that it doesn't actually loop back into itself, but I really loved the aesthetic quality to this orientation. As always thank so much for watching and enjoy! IRELAND and WILLIBRORD
A Nic Herber film, Anubis Pictures Luxembourg, 1998. Shows some early medieval impressions and the relationship between an irish monastery and Echternach in Luxembourg at the 7th and the 8th century AD Discovered in the last years, first pictures commented by reverend John Aughney from the Rath Melsigi monastery site near Clonmelsh, county Carlow, where Willibrord spent many years before he's perigrinatio to the continent and the supposed place of origin from the famous Echternach Gospels also called Willibrord gospels, which made the reputation of the Echternach abbey by his first insular art influenced works on the continent.

PERRO ROJO (VOSE)
PERRO ROJO / RED DOG
Ciencia ficción. 4´30" (2009)
Sinopsis

Barcelona, 2011.

" PEDRO MEETS GEORGE SHAW "
pedroTV interviews George Shaw @ INDEX. project artspace about his photo/text based works "On Your Minds.Ready.Set.Go.",part of the group show "WHAT NOW". George recently won The Marrickville Contemporary art Prize 2012. Featuring the work of: George Shaw, Patrick Cremin, Kate Farquharson, Rebecca Karageorgos, Jack Condon, David Manley. It is time to invite you to the last exhibition INDEX. will host in the current space. The title, "What Now?" is taken from that threshold moment when an artist first leaves the protective, insular, and ultimately finite environment of art school to stand blinking on the sidewalk, looking at the absurd, ephemeral, ethically fraught, and ultimately unknowable landscape we call the art world...(when we are not calling it by one of its other names). It is a little bit like living for three or four years in a small room, at which point someone takes the walls and ceiling away, leaving you surrounded by the entire universe. The past falls away as if it wasn't even there, and you are left asking yourself the one question: "What Now?" It is a fitting theme for the last exhibition at 60 Hutchinson street, for it compells us to ask it of ourselves. "What Now?" - We must ask that question again, three and four years after we first left art school, the answer to the question first asked is now completely answered and so we must ask it again. "What Now?" - these two words - What - Now- rendered in the interogative. As startling as it might be, it is ...
