Leap Motion
Leap Motion
Hands-free motion control, a technology pioneered by Nintendo's Wii and later improved upon by Microsoft's Kinect, just took a very big leap forward. Industries from gaming to surgery to architecture, engineering, and design may never be the same. With the unveiling today of its Leap 3D motion control system, a San Francisco startup called Leap Motion has, well, leapfrogged the state of the art in this young field, giving users the ability to control what's on their computers with hundredth of a millimeter accuracy and introducing touch-free gestures like pinch-to-zoom. Leap, which comprises both a small USB input device and a sophisticated software platform, is expected to cost $70. But while users will have to wait until early next year to get their hands on it, what the company is showing today seems likely to get developers and users in a wide range of industries very, very excited.

Impossible motion: magnet-like slopes
Impossible motion: magnet-like slopes
Winner of the Best Visual Illusion of the Year Contest 2010 illusioncontest.neuralcorrelate.com Koukichi Sugihara Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences, Japan In this video, wooden balls roll up the slopes just as if they are pulled by a magnet. The behavior of the balls seems impossible, because it is against the gravity. The video is not a computer graphic, but a real scene. What is actually happening is that the orientations of the slopes are perceived oppositely, and hence the descending motion is misinterpreted as ascending motion. This illusion is remarkable in that it is generated by a three-dimensional solid object and physical motion, instead of a two-dimensional picture.

They came out amazing! They print faster than anybody out there: rushtshirts.com Directed and Edited by Joe Penna youtube.com Animation and Sound by Billy Reid: youtube.com Watch Billy's Behind-The-Scenes Video: www.youtube.com Get T-Shirts like ours here: usverytasteful.spreadshirt.com TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR GEEKS LIKE US: We changed shirts over 100 times each, taking individual pictures of each unique shirt. The designs on the shirts are not photoshopped. They are real shirts for each frame of animation. The video was exported at 30fps, while the T-shirt animation moves at 6fps (with a few exceptions where it moves faster) So, for each shirt, we took 5 pictures, so the animation of us (Rhett&Link) moves at 30fps, but the T-shirt animations move a bit slower. There are a few places where the motion seems so smooth that it looks like video. That's because, in those parts, there was no changing in T-shirts, and Joe used burst mode to capture the frames, making it look very smooth. ------------------ Check out our other Youtube channel, where we upload random videos from our phones: youtube.com ------------------- FOLLOW us on TWITTER! VideoBrief: Newton's Laws of Motion illustrated with 3D animations and motion graphics
A fun little video project I did illustrating Isaac Newton's three laws of motion. The music is original as are the 3D animations and motion graphics. Let me know what you think about it. Does it effectively illustrate the concepts? I'd like to do more of these types of videos.
