Frame Rate Vs. Refresh Rate
Frame Rate Vs. Refresh Rate
While the frame rate and refresh rate may be completely different in their respective places, they go hand-in-hand in how they relate to each other to deliver a smooth image from your video source to the screen. How do these two rates differ, and how can you avoid problems that occur when they are mismatched? In this video, LockerGnome's Brandon Wirtz tackles these questions and more. lockergnome.com http facebook.com

COD MW3 - PS3 Frame Rate Issues
COD MW3 - PS3 Frame Rate Issues
Just wanted to show you what it looks like on the PS3 in some games. They put out a patch that stops the "out of memory 14" error that would kick you out of games like this, but the stuttering and skipping of frames still happens. I've been playing with a party and they've said it happens to them too. I have turned off theater recording since November 8th when I and many other people in my party would get booted with the "out of memory 14" error message. I googled the out of memory 14 and that was the suggestion. Even after turning off recording games we're still skipping frames.

Laser pulse shooting through a bottle and visualized at a trillion frames per second
Laser pulse shooting through a bottle and visualized at a trillion frames per second
We have built an imaging solution that allows us to visualize propagation of light at an effective rate of one trillion frames per second. Direct recording of light at such a frame rate with sufficient brightness is nearly impossible. We use an indirect 'stroboscopic' method that combines millions of repeated measurements by careful scanning in time and viewpoints. The device has been developed by the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture group in collaboration with Bawendi Lab in the Department of Chemistry at MIT. A laser pulse that lasts less than one trillionth of a second is used as a flash and the light returning from the scene is collected by a camera at a rate equivalent to roughly 1 trillion frames per second. However, due to very short exposure times (roughly one trillionth of a second) and a narrow field of view of the camera, the video is captured over several minutes by repeated and periodic sampling. 9/11 South Tower Strike - Plane Size, Shape, And Frame Rate Change Behind Crane
9/11 South Tower Strike - Plane Size, Shape, And Frame Rate Change Behind Crane
It does not matter what anybody might believe or the story is, the plane in this video clearly looks altered. The laws of motion state the building hit the plane with the exact same kinesmatic force the plane hit the building with. The problem is the building is constructed much stronger and is made of denser, stronger, and heavier materials. It is literally impossible that the plane did more damage to the building, than it recieved from the building in the collision. Notice the detachable wings and tail do not shear off, and the plane does not experience resistance until it explodes inside and out the other side of the building. The plane flys right in like butter and stops within 200 feet. The black boxes and airplanes themselves disappeared into thin air. The debris that exits the building is white hot and on fire, but the landing gear and engine were never white hot or on fire where they landed. The object that exited the building did not tumble, and it momentarily gained velocity after exiting the building, as seen in many impact videos. The eyewitness accounts at the moment on 9/11 have great variation and are hardly reliable when they conflict with classical mechanics. Harley guy or Isaac Newton?

Cool Sound and Water Experiment!
Cool Sound and Water Experiment!
Add me on Facebook (click the LIKE button on facebook to add me) www.facebook.com This is really simple but has such an awesome effect. Fill a bucket full of water and place it about 5 feet off the ground. Place a subwoofer about 1 foot lower than the bucket. Run a plastic tube from the top bucket down in front of the subwoofer. Tape the tube to the front of the speaker. Then aim the end of the tube to an empty bucket on the floor. Get the water flowing from the top bucket. Now just generate a 24 hz sine wave and set your camera to 24 fps and watch the magic happen. Basically your cameras frame rate is synced up with the rate of the vibrations of the water so it appears to be frozen or still. Now if you play a 23 hz sine wave your frame rate will be off just a little compared to the sine wave causing the water to "move backward" or so as it appears. You can play a 25 hz sine wave and cause the water to move slowly foward. Really fun experiment. You should definitely give it a try. Thanks to JacobTMcgarry for giving me the OK to create my own version based on his original video: www.youtube.com
