Amy Frederica Brenneman (born June 22, 1964) is an American actress, perhaps best known for her roles in the television series NYPD Blue, Judging Amy and Private Practice. She has also starred in films such as Heat, Fear, Daylight, Casper, Nine Lives and 88 Minutes.

Early life[link]

Brenneman was born in New London, Connecticut, the daughter of Frederica Joanne (née Shoenfield), a judge of the Connecticut State Superior Court, and Russell Langdon Brenneman, Jr., an environmental lawyer.^[1][2][3] Her aunt was Cold War-era journalist Beryl D. Hines.^[4] Brenneman was raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut, where she participated in theatre as a teenager, both in school and with a local theater group. She graduated from Harvard University, where she majored in comparative religion, in 1987. While at Harvard, she co-founded Cornerstone Theatre Company, with which she traveled for several years after graduation.^[5]

In her first major television role, Brenneman played mob-connected uniformed officer Janice Licalsi on the police drama NYPD Blue. Her story arc, which included a romantic relationship with David Caruso's character, ran through the show's first season (1993–1994) and the first few episodes of the second season. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1994 and for Outstanding Guest Actress the following year.

After leaving NYPD Blue, Brenneman appeared in a number of films, including Casper (1995), Heat (1995), Fear (1996), Daylight (1996) and Nevada (1997). She had a brief recurring role on Frasier in its 1998–1999 season.

In 1999, Brenneman became creator and executive producer of the television series Judging Amy, in which she played the title character. Brenneman portrayed a divorced single mother working as a Family Court Judge in Hartford, Connecticut. The show's concept was based on the real-life experiences of her mother, Frederica Brenneman, as a superior court judge in the state of Connecticut. Judging Amy ran on CBS for six seasons and 138 episodes from September 19, 1999 to May 3, 2005 to good ratings. Frederica Brenneman was one of Harvard Law School's first female graduates and became a juvenile court judge in Connecticut when Amy was 3 years old. Amy has said, "I play my mother's job, not my mother."^{[citation needed]}

In 2002, she was awarded the Women in Film Lucy Award in recognition of her excellence and innovation in her creative works that have enhanced the perception of women through the medium of television.^[6]

In March 2007, Brenneman was cast to co-star in the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, Private Practice.^[7]

In 2007, Brenneman played "Sylvia Avila" in The Jane Austen Book Club.^[8] In 2008, Brenneman co-starred in 88 Minutes alongside Al Pacino.

Personal life[link]

In 1995, Brenneman married director Brad Silberling in the garden at the home of her parents. They have two children: Charlotte Tucker (b. March 20, 2001) and Bodhi Russell (b. June 8, 2005). Brenneman attends an Episcopal church^[9][10] (her mother was Jewish and her father was of English, Irish, and Swiss descent, and from a Protestant background).^[11]

Brenneman, who is very actively pro-choice, signed the "We Had Abortions" petition which appears in the October 2006 issue of Ms. Magazine.^[12] The petition contains signatures of over 5,000 women declaring that they had an abortion and were "unashamed of the choice they made".

In the February 28, 2007, all-star benefit reading of "The Gift of Peace" at UCLA's Freud Playhouse, she portrays an entrepreneur, alongside actors Ed Asner, Barbara Bain, George Coe, Wendie Malick, and James Pickens, Jr.. The play was an open appeal and fundraiser for passage of U.S. House Resolution 808, which sought to establish a Cabinet-level "Department of Peace" in the U.S. government, funded by a two percent diversion of The Pentagon's annual budget.^[13]

In July 2008, Brenneman was nominated as a candidate on the 'Unite for Strength' slate for a place on the national governing board of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in elections scheduled for 18 September 2008.^[14] The bid was successful.^[15]

Brenneman is also a strong supporter of more restrictive gun control laws, and in 2009 she hosted the Target for a Safe America gala at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a gun control group that favors restrictive gun laws and supports gun bans.^[16]

Troy Cassar-Daley (born 18 May 1969) is a multi-award-winning country musician from New South Wales, Australia.

He released his first EP, Dream Out Loud, in 1994 and was nominated for his first Golden Guitar for Best Male Vocalist the same year. He has won many awards, including the 1995 ARIA Award for Best Country Record, 1996 Best Male Vocal Award at the Country Music Awards in Tamworth, Best Male Vocal at the 2000 CMAA Awards and Song of the Year for "They Don't Make 'Em Like That Anymore" and almost a decade's worth of Deadly Awards. He won the ARIA Music Award for Best Country Album in 2006, and once again won the ARIA for Best Country Album in 2009 for his album I Love This Place.^[3]

He has been a regular at the Tamworth Country Music Festival (where he first performed at the age of eleven), The Deadlys and a visitor to Nashville, Tennessee, where he performed in the Australian Country Music Showcase.

Early life and career[link]

Cassar-Daley was born in the Sydney suburb of Surry Hills to a Maltese-Australian father and an Aboriginal mother.^[4] At a very young age, he moved with his mother to Grafton in north-eastern New South Wales. At eleven, Troy went to the Tamworth Country Music Festival and returned the next year to busk on the streets.^[5] At 16 he and his band, Little Eagle, were touring the North Coast of New South Wales and he made the top 10 in Tamworth's "Star Maker" quest. He won the 1986 "Search for a Star" competition and then toured with Brian Young for seven months in which he began to develop his songwriting skills. After returning home he replaced James Blundell as leader of country music band The Blue Heeler Band.

Later career[link]

The first single "Dream Out Loud" was released in 1994 by Sony Music and reached number-one on the Australian country music charts. The album was released in January 1995 and Troy won the 1995 ARIA Award for Best Country Record. At the 1996 Country Music Awards, in Tamworth, Troy won Best Male Vocalist. He also made a cameo appearance in the motion picture Race the Sun in which he performed a song in a bar scene.

In June that year Troy was part of the Australian Country Music Showcase in Nashville. The Showcase included Lee Kernaghan, Gina Jeffreys and Tommy Emmanuel. As a result Troy returned to the States to record his new album True Believer with Steve Dorff.

Troy Cassar-Daley partnered up with Kate Ritchie for the singing competition It Takes Two aired on Seven Network in 2006. In May 2007 Troy re-appeared on the same show,^[6] this time partnered with Krystal Forscutt,^[7] a former contestant on Network Ten's Big Brother program. The same year, Troy was featured in a Wiggles music video for the song "Old Dan Tucker".

Cassar-Daley performed the national anthem at the 2003 NRL grand final.

Cassar-Daley with Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson played together at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 14 March 2009 for Sound Relief which was a proposed multi-venue rock music concert in support of relief for the Victorian Bushfire Crisis.^[8][9] The event was held simultaneously with another concert taking place at the Sydney Cricket Ground.^[8] All the proceeds from the Melbourne Concert went to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Relief Appeal.^[8][9][10]

Sean Michael Daley, (born September 7, 1972) better known by his stage name Slug or "'Sep Seven'", is an American rapper. He is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Slug is best known as one half of the hip hop group Atmosphere, which he founded with Derek Turner (Spawn). Turner has since left and Anthony Davis (Ant) produces Atmosphere with Slug. He is also one of the founders of the Minnesota Hip Hop record label Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Biography[link]

The son of Valerie and Dylan Sorenson, Slug's nickname comes from his father's; his dad was known to his friends as "Sluggo" and thus they began to call Sean "little Sluggo," which he shortened to "Slug".^[1] Before fully establishing himself as an official artist, Daley spent much time making music with fellow Minnesota rapper Nic Lehnertz. The two worked on projects together, and Daley recognizes Lehnertz as a contributing factor to his success. Lehnertz quit rapping after high school, while Daley went on to pursue a professional career. In Atmosphere's early years, Slug DJ'd behind the scenes and let Spawn handle lyrics. The group eventually formed a strong relationship with Ant (Anthony Davis) and began collaborating on music. Along with solo MC Musab (then Beyond), and groups Black hole, Phull Surkle, and the Abstract Pack they formed the mid-Nineties crew Headshots, with Slug appearing on the underground tape series HeadShots (1-7) (see Discography below).

Another notable project of Slug's is Felt, a collaboration with his friend, another underground rapper, Murs. Other projects he has been a part of include The Dynospectrum, in which he was known as "Sep Se7en", and Deep Puddle Dynamics. He is a member of a loose collective known as The Orphanage, along with Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, Eyedea, Blueprint, and Illogic.

In 2005, Slug and Murs started up Women Records, a record label through which they would release the albums of rock bands that they were friends with. The label was set up as an imprint through Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Lyrical themes[link]

A prominent theme in Slug's lyrics is his allegorical usage of women, especially in his earlier work. A notable use of women by Slug is in the song "Woman with the Tattooed Hands", which Slug has said is "a metaphor for that same stuff that everybody has already made songs about".^[2] Further uses come in the form of the song "Abusing of the Rib" from Headshots: SE7EN: it has been said that the "lover" that Slug speaks of is actually an allegory for Hip-Hop.

A character Slug refers to as "Lucy", who has been purported to symbolize a range of different entities, is the most notable of these allegories. In earlier Atmosphere songs, it is believed that Slug used Lucy as a means of writing about ex-girlfriends. Lucy became so prominent that Atmosphere's 2001 album bore her name, Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EPs, with the record itself concentrating fairly heavily on women and relationships, in songs such as "Don't Ever Fucking Question That" and "Mama Had A Baby And His Head Popped Off". Slug himself has since said of Lucy that he originally believed "her" to be a representation of the dichotomy between himself and women. He acknowledges now that Lucy became a demonization ("Lucy Ford" being a play on words for Lucifer) of himself and his dependency on alcohol, drugs, sex and validation.^[3]

In Atmosphere's song "Yesterday," he narrates a story of seeing a person he once knew the previous day. Throughout the entire song, the listener would infer it to be about a woman, but in the last stanza he reveals that the person he thought he saw was his father, who died.

Slug raps in an introspective style, as seen on the song "Little Man", in which he confronts the complaints that people have about him by looking at his relationship with his father and son.^[4] This introspective style has become less prevalent as of Atmosphere's 2008 album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold in which Slug navigates through other people's lives.^[4] When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold has been noted to be more of a dark album than previous efforts.

Slug also dislikes some of the songs that he wrote before and does not perform them live, such as "Vampires" from 2002 album God Loves Ugly.^[5] Daley has stated: "[...] when I did get my phase of trying to figure myself out, there was a lot of tug-of-war inside of me between wanting to hate a particular woman and then feeling guilty about that. And there’s certain songs that I won’t perform anymore, because the game of tug-of-war is over and I know where I’m at.^[6] Furthermore, Slug has criticised Atmosphere's debut album Overcast! saying: "It's obvious that I’m trying so fucking hard on Overcast and you can see through it and tell it's not a person it's more of an attempt at trying to fill the niche, it was like I was trying to prove to myself that I was a rapper." ^[4]

Robert Daley (born 1930 in New York City),^[1] is an American novelist. He is the author of 28 books, five of which have been adapted for film.

Daley graduated from Fordham University in 1951 and served in the Air Force^[2] during the Korean War. He spent six seasons as publicity director for the New York Giants of the National Football League in the days of Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly and Sam Huff. He then worked on the foreign staff of The New York Times for six years.

In 1971–72 he served as Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD).^[3] It was a particularly tumultuous period in the department's history: two Mafia dons were killed, the city's biggest-ever jewel heist took place, the Knapp Commission investigation into police corruption caused great upheaval in the department, and several police officers were killed by assailants associated with the Black Liberation Army. Daley recounted these events and others in the nonfiction book Target Blue. He said later that when he agreed to take the job, he got more than he bargained for.

Daley's award-winning 1978 nonfiction work Prince of the City was hailed by The New York Times Book Review: "The policeman as flawed hero, a recurrent and enormously popular figure in contemporary writing, has never been done better." Daley's books, which have been translated into 14 languages, include Year of the Dragon, Tainted Evidence (filmed as Night Falls on Manhattan), and Prince of the City. Most of his books grew out of immersing himself deeply in people and subjects that fascinated him, from Grand Prix racing to opera to bullfights to treasure diving—and of course the NYPD. He and his French-born wife divide their time between a house in Connecticut and an apartment in Nice, France.^[2]
