Tensions run high on Serbia's border with northern Kosovo, as neither of the conflicting sides is prepared to rule out a further escalation of violence. Local Serbs say NATO forces are to blame, for breaking an agreement by trying to remove a barricade blocking the way to one of a number of disputed checkpoints. The move prompted violent clashes that left dozens injured on both sides. Last night in Northern Kosovo passed without violence though this does not mean that the source of tensions has disappeared. On November 23 the NATO's KFOR forces attempted to remove a barricade put up by ethnic Serbian minority of the region. The resistance was tense so the soldiers used tear gas. More than 20 people were injured but the Serbs got it their way and the KFOR operation was ceased. RT crew traveled around the area and saw the barricades that have been there for the last four months still up. They are constantly maintained and people there say they are not going to abandon them in any case and in fact are planning to build more of them. To an untrained eye those barricades seem to be mere piles of rubble, amateurishly constructed. One would never say they could become a cause of armed conflict. But in order to comprehend why the barricades appeared in the first place, the developments in July in Kosovo must be remembered. The Serbian minority, that constitutes 10 per cent of the Kosovo population, lost any kind of legal status once Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence <b>...</b>

After a heavy night of shelling and killing, United Nations observers led by Deputy Head of UN Mission in Syria Martin Grifith visited the town Houla on Saturday and witnessed the extent of violence that has local people horrified. UN observers counted at least 90 bodies, including at least 32 children under the age of 10. Some killed by artillery shells and other killed at a closer range with small caliber weapons. Residents surrounded the UN convoy to tell their stories. (Soundbite )(English) Local resident saying : "Usually before the prayer they start the shelling and then they continue. They continued yesterday until 2 at night" UNSMIS team inspected several locations in the town including the mass burial site. The observers helped recover 6 bodies from a house at the edge of the town near a Syrian Army position. To help with his fact finding mission, Mr. Griffith met with representatives of the Free Syrian Army and then with Syrian Armed Forces. He condemned this deplorable act of violence and discussed with both sides steps need to support the cessation of violence.

The incident happened on Monday near a government office building in Sichuan's Aba County, a place where many such protests have taken place since 2009. A third Tibetan has died in China in three days after setting himself on fire in a desperate protest. Rights group Free Tibet reported on Monday that 18-year-old Dorjee died inside a government office building in Aba County of Sichuan Province. He lit himself on fire outside the building and collapsed after walking inside. Several other Tibetan groups and the Tibetan government in exile have also reported the incident. Dorjee is the 26th Tibetan to die in self-immolation protests in Tibet since February 2009. His death coincided with a protest march in Dharamsala, India on Monday. Exiled Tibetans, monks and activists gathered to condemn the Chinese regime's suppression of Tibetan culture and religion—which they say sparked the string of self-immolations. Free Tibet director Stephanie Brigden is appealing for international help. She gave a statement on the group's website, saying "This third self-immolation in as many days underlines that Tibetans will not stop protesting until their calls for freedom are heeded. The international community must take immediate action." The Chinese Communist Party <b>...</b>

NATO is getting more help from Russia in the Afghan war. At a ministerial meeting in Brussels on Thursday, the sides discussed expanding the vital transit of military cargo to Afghanistan through Russia's territory. Moscow has provided the alliance with air corridors and railway routes. The link is vital as Pakistan blocked NATO supplies from crossing its territory after an air strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers 6 months ago. And as the alliance prepares to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, it finds itself in the midst of a string of scandals involving extreme breaches of discipline by US troops Washington says recently published photographs of soldiers posing with the remains of Afghan bombers show an isolated incident of young people caught up in the moment. 2. E-mail addresses

We do not want you to receive unwanted e-mail from us. We try to make it easy to opt-out of any service you have asked to receive. If you sign-up to our e-mail newsletters we do not sell, exchange or give your e-mail address to a third party.

E-mail addresses are collected via the wn.com web site. Users have to physically opt-in to receive the wn.com newsletter and a verification e-mail is sent. wn.com is clearly and conspicuously named at the point of

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter and promotional communications, you may opt-out of receiving them by following the instructions included in each newsletter or communication or by e-mailing us at michaelw(at)wn.com

The security of your personal information is important to us. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during registration and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100 percent secure, however. Therefore, though we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

If we decide to change our e-mail practices, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and other places we think appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.

If we make material changes to our e-mail practices, we will notify you here, by e-mail, and by means of a notice on our home page.
