Diane Eve Warren (born September 7, 1956), is an American songwriter. Her songs have received six Academy Award nominations, five Golden Globe nominations, including one win, and seven Grammy Award nominations, including one win. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001. Her success in the US has been paralleled in the UK, where she has been rated the third most successful female artist.

She was the first songwriter in the history of ''Billboard'' to have seven hits, all by different artists, on the singles chart at the same time. Warren owns a publishing company, Realsongs, which gives her control over her compositions. Meanwhile, her songs have been featured in more than 70 films or television shows.

Early life

Warren was born in Van Nuys, California, where she said she felt misunderstood and "alien" as a Jewish kid growing up. She says she was rebellious as a child and told NPR's Scott Simon that she got into trouble and ran away as a teen but returned because she missed her cat. She began writing music when she was 14. "Music saved me", she said. Warren also has said that her mother asked her to give up her dream of a songwriting career and take a secretarial job. However, her father continued to believe in her and encouraged her. She wrote the song "Because You Loved Me" as a tribute to her father for his encouragement.

Career

Her first hit was "Solitaire", which Laura Branigan took to No. 7 in the US pop charts in 1983.

Warren has never married.

In 1998, her company Realsongs and its international partner, EMI Music Publishing, distributed "A Passion For Music," a six-CD box set that showcased her music. EMI Music's London office assisted in distributing 1,200 copies of the box set primarily to the film and television industry for consideration in soundtracks and other commercial endeavors. It was not marketed to consumers. As of 2011, her music has appeared in the soundtracks over 60 films. She was awarded a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2001.

I Don't Want to Miss a Thing is a song performed by American rock band Aerosmith for the 1998 film ''Armageddon''. Written by Diane Warren, the song debuted at number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 (a first for the band after 28 years together). The song stayed at number one for four weeks from September 5 to September 26, 1998. The song also stayed at number 1 for several weeks in several other countries. In the United Kingdom, the song peaked at number four in November 1998, becoming Aerosmith's highest charting song in the UK to date.

The Diane Warren Foundation, in conjunction with the ASCAP Foundation and the VH1 Save the Music Foundation created a joint initiative, beginning in 2000, called Music in the Schools. The initiative provides sheet music, band arrangements, folios, and method books to each of the schools that are already recipients of musical instruments from the VH1 Save the Music Foundation.

In 2004 she released a compilation album of love songs, titled ''Diane Warren Presents Love Songs'', which includes several of her award-winning hits. She continues to write and produce hit songs for artists of all mainstream genres, including Elton John, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Roy Orbison, Patti LaBelle, 'N Sync, Gloria Estefan, Reba McEntire, Whitney Houston, Enrique Iglesias, RBD, Aerosmith, The Cult, Ricky Martin, Faith Hill, Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Expose', Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer, and LeAnn Rimes. Her songs have been covered by artists including Weezer, Edwin McCain, Milli Vanilli, and Mark Chestnut, and many others.

Also in 2009, she cowrote the United Kingdom's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest with Andrew Lloyd Webber the song "It's My Time". It was sung by Jade Ewen and achieved 5th place, the best for the UK since 2002.

In 2010 Warren joined forces with Avon as a celebrity judge for Avon Voices, Avon's first ever global online singing talent search for women and songwriting competition for men and women.

Diane Warren has been recognized six times ASCAP Songwriter of the Year and four times Billboard’s Songwriter of the Year.

Sandhy Soendhoro, better known by his stage name Sandhy Sondoro, sometimes stylized as Sandhy SonDoro, is an Indonesian singer-songwriter. He is best known for winning the 2009 International Contest of Young Pop Singer ''New Wave'', in Jūrmala, Latvia.

Early life

Sandhy was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, as Sandhy Soendhoro, to Rr. Rika Pudjihastuti and Achmad Fauzan. Sandhy is of Palembangese Malay, Javanese, and Minangkabau descent.

Sandhy came from a musical family, where the house provide the likes of American pop, folk, jazz and blues tunes coming from his mother’s or father’s guitar everyday. His cousin, Ira Maya Sopha, was a famous child singer in Indonesia during the 1970s.

After graduating from high school in Jakarta, at the age of 18 Sandhy went to visit his uncle in California and stayed there for a while, before leaving for Germany to study architecture.

Early career

In Germany, he joined a band in his campus, but they rarely appeared on stage. Later he decided to find a job as he lived alone there and needed to support himself. He had an opportunity to work in a supermarket, but didn't get the job, as he was too late. On the way back to his apartment on his bike, he saw a busker on the street, and asked if he could join him. The busker agreed and Sandhy borrowed his friend's guitar and started playing on the streets of Biberach an der Riss. They got 50 deutschemarks in an hour and shared the money. They played three times a week before he decided to do it alone.

In 1998 he moved back to Berlin and started singing and playing the guitar in bars, clubs and in metros. His famous song "Down on the Streets" was inspired by the experience gained in Berlin metros. He also performed in famous theatres like the House of World Cultures in Berlin, and at music festivals such as the Bode museum isle festival. In 2005, Sandhy performed in a charity concert for the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami victims, "Berlin for Asia."

During his time in Germany Sandhy "changed" his last name from "Soendhoro" (new spelling: Sundhoro) to "Sondoro" because many people had difficulties in pronouncing it. He also explained that Sondoro means "The Sound of Gold" in Latin. On his birth certificate and other official documents, his last name remains as "Soendhoro."

Sandhy found a wider audience through Stefan Raab´s casting show, a popular segment within one of Germany´s most successful late night shows ''SSDSDSSWEMUGABRTLAD'' .

On April 25, 2008 he published his debut album ''Why Dont We'', after releasing his first single "Down on the Street" earlier.

''New Wave''

Sandhy participated in the 8th edition of ''New Wave'', an "International Contest of Young Pop Singer" in Jūrmala, Latvia, after Brandon Stone, a music producer, suggested he take part in the competition. The 2009 ''New Wave'' ran from July 28 to August 2, 2009, and was participated by 16 contestants from 12 differenct countries. Sandhy was the first Indonesian, also the first Southeast Asian to participate.

The first day of the competition the contestants were required to sing world hits, and Sandhy sang "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge. He received 9 points from one of the twelve judges, while the rest gave him 10, giving him 119 points in total. Sandhy came in first place, followed by Jamala from the Ukraine in the second place, who sang "History Repeating."

The second day the contestants were required to sing national hit songs, and Sandhy chose his own song "Malam Biru" which is in Indonesian. Sandhy again received 119 points from the judges, and was still in the first place with 238 points, tying with Jamala who received a perfect score on the second day of the competition.

On the third and final day, the contestants had to sing a song that is "dedicated to ''New Wave'' 2009" and Sandhy performed another song that he wrote, "End of the Rainbow." Both Sandhy and Jamala received a perfect score of 120, making them the winners of ''New Wave'' 2009 with 358 points, and were awarded €50,000 each.

Post-''New Wave''

Sandhy started to gain fame in his home country Indonesia after videos of his performances in ''New Wave'' were uploaded to Youtube.

In 2010, he was invited by Diane Warren to perform for PBS in the Palladium Theatre, along with famous artists such as Cher, Patti Austin, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Eric Benet, Fantasia, Le Ann Rimes and others.

Mindi Abair (born May 23, 1969 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is an American smooth jazz saxophonist with a strong Top-40 pop music background. Mindi has toured and/or recorded with the Backstreet Boys, Duran Duran, Mandy Moore, Josh Groban, Adam Sandler, Keb' Mo', Lalah Hathaway, Lee Ritenour, Teena Marie, John Tesh, Bobby Lyle, Jonathan Butler, Peter White and Rick Braun. In 1999 she independently released a pop album, ''Always and Never the Same.''

In 2003, Abair moved from pop to jazz. She signed to Verve Records and released the album ''It Just Happens That Way'', which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart and remained in the Top 10 for 19 consecutive weeks. Billboard magazine named ''It Just Happens That Way'' one of the top 10 Contemporary Jazz CDs of the year. Her hit single “Lucy’s,” was #1 on R&R; for a record-breaking eight weeks. Her 2004 release ''Come As You Are'' peaked at #9 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts. Early life

Mindi Abair was born in St. Petersburg, Florida and spent much of her early life on the road with her father’s band, The Entertainers. She came from musical roots. Her father, Lance Abair, played saxophone and keyboards, and her grandmother Virginia Rice was an opera singer, piano and vocal instructor. She started playing the piano at age five, and started playing alto saxophone at the age of 8 when her elementary school band instructor laid out instruments on the first day of band class and instructed each student to pick the instrument they most wanted to play. She acted as drum major of her high school marching band her junior and senior years of high school. And as a senior in high school, she auditioned and won the 1st chair alto saxophone for the Florida All-State Jazz Band. Mindi spent her first year of college on a full scholarship at the University of North Florida, a jazz program started by Rich Matteson (North Texas State University). She then transferred to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended on scholarship and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Woodwind Performance. During her years at Berklee, Mindi studied with Joe Viola and George Garzone on saxophone. She formed her first band in college.

Early career

After graduation from Berklee College of Music in 1991, Mindi moved to Los Angeles, where she began booking her band into clubs, coffee shops and hotels. She played solo on the street at 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and garnered the attention of jazz keyboardist Bobby Lyle, who hired her to record on his “Power of Touch” CD and tour with him. Her touring possibilities expanded over the next decade, as she toured as a saxophonist/singer and keyboardist with Adam Sandler, John Tesh, Jonathan Butler, Teena Marie, Rick Braun, and Bobby Lyle. She was featured on saxophone in the Go West video “Tell Me”. And in 1996, on Adam Sandler’s HBO Special, and recorded on his platinum CD “What’s Your Name?” playing the saxophone solo on “The Lonesome Kicker” and singing on various tracks. In 1999, Mindi joined the Backstreet Boys for their Millennium World Tour, and spent the next year and a half as their saxophonist, keyboardist and percussionist. She put together Mandy Moore’s first band, and acted as musical director, keyboardist, background singer and percussionist for many of her first television appearances and shows. On her off time from touring, Mindi released her first complete solo record “Always and Never the Same” independently.

American Idol

Mindi has been featured on the 2011 ''American Idol'' season as a soloist with Paul McDonald and Casey Abrams and playing behind contestants Jacob Lusk and Haley Reinhart. Steven Tyler remarked to Paul McDonald after her debut on the show “Forget you, who’s your sax player?”

Mindi has also been featured several times on the 2012 ''American Idol'' season with Phillip Phillips.

Andrea Jung (鍾彬嫻, pinyin: Zhōng Bīnxián) (born 1958) is a Canadian-American businessperson. She is the executive chairman and former CEO of Avon Products Inc..

Early life

Her mother is a Shanghai-born amateur pianist. Jung's father is a Hong Kong-born retired architect, formerly a partner at TRO Jung Brannen, who also taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Andrea Jung was raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Jung is a ''magna cum laude'' graduate of Princeton University and is fluent in Mandarin.

Career

Jung was executive vice president of Neiman Marcus, where she handled issues regarding accessories, intimate women's apparel, cosmetics and children's wear. Before that, she was senior vice president, general merchandising manager, for I. Magnin.

Jung joined Avon Products, Inc. in 1994 as the company's president in its product marketing group. She became president of global marketing in 1996 and executive vice president/president of global marketing and new business in 1997. Her responsibilities at that time centered primarily around market research, joint ventures and strategic planning. She then became president and chief operating officer, with responsibility for all business units of Avon worldwide. She has been on the company's board of directors since 1998. In November 1999, Jung was promoted to chairman of the board and chief executive officer.

Jung has been on the board of directors of General Electric since 1998. She joined Apple's board of directors on January 7, 2008.

On December 13, 2011, it was announced that Avon had initiated a search for a new chief executive. She will have a role in choosing her replacement, and she will also continue as chairman of the board for the next two years. A multitude of controversies had compelled Jung to announce her resignation. The company's stock had dropped 45% in 2011. Avon's third quarter earnings report stated that sales targets would be unattainable and disclosed that there were two ongoing SEC inquiries. Net income in the third quarter fell to $164.2 million, or 38 cents a share (below analysts' estimates of 46 cents a share), from $166.7 million, or 38 cents, a year earlier. The results marked the fourth time in five quarters that profit trailed analysts’ projections. There was also a three-year probe into an alleged bribery of foreign officials has already caused the dismissal of four Avon executives.

Jung was named one of ''Forbes'' 100 Most powerful women in 2004. In 2009, Forbes ranked her the 25th most powerful woman.

Jung's ex-husband, Michael Gould, is the CEO of Bloomingdale's, the company where she had her first job.

In 2001, she was named one of the 30 most powerful women in America by ''Ladies Home Journal''.
