Carl Zeiss
Carl Zeiss (11 September 1816 – 3 December 1888) was an optician commonly known for the company he founded, Carl Zeiss Jena (now: Carl Zeiss AG). Zeiss made contributions to lens manufacturing that have aided the modern production of lenses. Raised in Weimar, Germany, he became a notable lens maker in the 1840s when he created high quality lenses that were "wide open", or in other words, had a very large aperture range that allowed for very bright images. He did this in the city of Jena at a self opened workshop, where he started his lens making career. At first his lenses were only used in the production of microscopes, but when cameras were invented, his company began manufacturing high quality lenses for cameras.

Faust or (Latin for "auspicious" or "lucky") is the protagonist of a classic German legend. Though a highly successful scholar, he is unsatisfied, and makes a deal with the devil, exchanging his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures. Faust's tale is the basis for many literary, artistic, cinematic, and musical works. The meaning of the word and name has been reinterpreted through the ages. Faust, and the adjective Faustian, are often used to describe an arrangement in which an ambitious person surrenders moral integrity in order to achieve power and success: the proverbial "deal with the devil." The terms can also refer to an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Friedrich Schiller
Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (10 November 1759 9 May 1805) was a German poet, philosopher, historian, and playwright. During the last seventeen years of his life (1788–1805), Schiller struck up a productive, if complicated, friendship with already famous and influential Johann Wolfgang Goethe. They frequently discussed issues concerning aesthetics, and Schiller encouraged Goethe to finish works he left as sketches. This relationship and these discussions led to a period now referred to as Weimar Classicism. They also worked together on Die Xenien, a collection of short satirical poems in which both Schiller and Goethe challenge opponents to their philosophical vision.

The concept of Germany as a distinct region in central Europe can be traced to Roman commander Julius Caesar, who referred to the unconquered area east of the Rhine as Germania, thus distinguishing it from Gaul (France), which he had conquered. The victory of the Germanic tribes in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest (AD 9) prevented annexation by the Roman Empire. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the Franks subdued the other West Germanic tribes. When the Frankish Empire was divided among Charlemagne's heirs in 843, the eastern part became East Francia, ruled by Louis the German. Henry the Fowler became the first king of Germany in 919. In 962, Henry's son Otto I became the first emperor of what historians refer to as the Holy Roman Empire, the medieval German state.

Martin Luther

Oskar Schlemmer
Oskar Schlemmer (September 4, 1888 – April 13, 1943) was a German painter, sculptor, designer and choreographer associated with the Bauhaus school. In 1923 he was hired as Master of Form at the Bauhaus theatre workshop, after working some time at the workshop of sculpture. His most famous work is "Triadisches Ballett," in which the actors are transfigured from the normal to geometrical shapes. Also in Slat Dance and Treppenwitz, the performers' costumes make them into living sculpture, as if part of the scenery.

Paul Klee
Paul Klee (; 18 December 1879 – 29 June 1940) was born in Münchenbuchsee, Switzerland, and is considered both a Swiss painter and a German painter. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. He was, as well, a student of orientalism. Klee was a natural draftsman who experimented with and eventually mastered color theory, and wrote extensively about it; his lectures Writings on Form and Design Theory (Schriften zur Form und Gestaltungslehre), published in English as the Paul Klee Notebooks, are considered so important for modern art that they are compared to the importance that Leonardo da Vinci's A Treatise on Painting had for Renaissance. His works reflect his dry humour and his sometimes childlike perspective, his personal moods and beliefs, and his musicality.

Haus am Horn
The Haus am Horn was built for the Weimar Bauhaus's exhibition of July through September 1923. It was designed by Georg Muche, a painter and a teacher at the Bauhaus. Other Bauhaus instructors, such as Adolf Meyer and Walter Gropius, assisted with the technical aspects of the house's design. Gropius stated that the goal of the house's construction was "the greatest comfort with the greatest economy by the application of the best craftsmanship and the best distribution of space in form, size, and articulation." The house's construction was financed by Sommerfeld, a Berlin lumber merchant, who had been a client of Gropius years before. The house was built away from the main section of the Bauhaus, on land that was being used as a vegetable garden for the school. The site is currently near the Park an der Ilm in Weimar, on a residential street.

Weimar Republic
The Weimar Republic (, ) is the name given by historians to the parliamentary republic established in 1919 in Germany to replace the imperial form of government. It was named after Weimar, the city where the constitutional assembly took place. Its official name was Deutsches Reich (sometimes translated as German Empire, but Reich can also mean realm or federal level of government), however, and it was usually known in English simply as Germany. Following World War I, the republic emerged from the German Revolution in November 1918. In 1919, a national assembly convened in Weimar, where a new constitution for the German Reich was written, then adopted on 11 August of that same year. Germany's period of liberal democracy lapsed in the early 1930s, leading to the ascent of the NSDAP and Adolf Hitler in 1933. Although the constitution of 1919 was never officially repealed, the legal measures taken by the Nazi government in February and March 1933, commonly known as Gleichschaltung ("coordination") meant that the government could legislate contrary to the constitution. The constitution became irrelevant; thus, 1933 is usually seen as the end of the Weimar Republic and the beginning of Hitler's Third Reich.

FRIEDRICH HOLLÄNDER (1896- 1976), born in London. He was the son of composer Victor Holländer. Educated at the Berlin Conservatory. By the age of 18 he had become an associate conductor at the Prague Opera House. After studying in Berlin, he composed music for productions by Max Reinhardt and became involved in cabaret and wrote music for the film, The Blue Angel (1930). He left Nazi Germany and emigrated to the United States of America where he wrote the music for over a hundred films, including Destry Rides Again (1939), A Foreign Affair (1948), and Sabrina (1954). Many of his songs were made famous by Marlene Dietrich. He can be seen as the piano accompanist in A Foreign Affair. He received four Academy Award nominations for composition . In 1956 he returned to Germany, and died in Munich in 1976. CURT BOIS (1901--1991) actor, born in Berlin. He began acting in 1907, becoming one of the film world's first child actors, with a role in the silent movie Bauernhaus und Grafenschloß. Bois' acting career spanned eighty years, a longer period than can be claimed by any actor. His final performance was in Der Himmel über Berlin (in English: Wings of Desire) in 1987. Bois was very adaptable, performing in theatre, cabaret, musicals, silent film and "talkies" over his career. In 1934 he was forced to leave Germany. In New York City he found work on stage on Broadway. By 1937 he had found his way to Hollywood, and began acting in American pictures, the best-known of which was <b>...</b>

Weimar's cultural heritage is vast. It is most often recognised as the place where Germany's first democratic constitution was signed after the First World War, giving its name to the Weimar Republic period in German politics, of 1918–1933. However, the city was also the focal point of the German Enlightenment and home of the leading characters of the literary genre of Weimar Classicism, the writers Goethe and Schiller. The city was also the birthplace of the Bauhaus movement, founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius, with artists Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Oskar Schlemmer, and Lyonel Feininger teaching in Weimar's Bauhaus School. Many places in the city centre have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Geography
General
Weimar is located in central Germany, in the state of Thuringia, one of the smallest states in Germany. The city of Weimar is classified as an independent city district, in addition to the 17 districts (''Landkreise'') and 5 other independent cities of Thuringia. Weimar is the 4th largest area in Thuringia, with a population of approximately 65,000 people.The city limits of Weimar itself are approximately 7 km and the neighbouring cities are Jena and Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. The city lies along the River Ilm. In the valley of the river Ilm river the federal Motorway 87 runs from Ilmenau to Leipzig and two railways: the Ilmbahn between Kranichfeld and Weimar and the highspeed railway from Berlin to Frankfurt am Main between Weimar and Großheringen.
The city is north-east of the Thuringian Forest, 25 minutes away by autobahn or train.
City districts
History and Culture
The oldest records about Weimar date back to the year 899. Its name changed over the centuries from Wimares through Wimari to Wimar and finally Weimar; it is probably derived from Old High German ''wih'' 'holy' + ''mari'' 'standing water, swamp'. (Another theory derives the first element from OHG ''win'' 'meadow, pasture.') In 1410 it received city rights, although the growth of the city was severely affected by the 1424 fires.
In 1552 Weimar became the capital of the Duchy of Saxe-Weimar (German ''Sachsen-Weimar'') and remained so until 1918.
18th and 19th centuries
During the regencies of Anna Amalia (1758–1775) and her son Carl August (1809–1828), Weimar became an important cultural centre of Europe, having been home to such luminaries as Goethe, Schiller, and Herder; and in music the piano virtuoso Hummel (a pupil of Mozart), Liszt, and Bach. Richard Strauss worked in Weimar for 5 years as second conductor in the acclaimed Staatskapelle Weimar (the court orchestra founded in 1491). Several of his encores for works such as ''Hansel and Gretel'', ''Don Juan'' and Macbeth were performed by the Staatskapelle Weimar. It has been a site of pilgrimage for the German intelligentsia since Goethe first moved to Weimar in the late 18th century. Goethe was also active in civic duties while living in Weimar. He served as Privy Councilor to the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach for an extended period. The tombs of Goethe and Schiller, as well as their archives, may be found in the city. Goethe's ''Elective Affinities'' (1809) is set around the city of Weimar.
Weimar Republic
The period in German history from 1919 to 1933 is commonly referred to as the Weimar Republic, as the Republic's constitution was drafted here because the capital, Berlin, with its street rioting after the 1918 German Revolution, was considered too dangerous for the National Assembly to use it as a meeting place.
The Bauhaus Movement
Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus School and movement in Weimar in 1919. The School aimed to teach and develop modernist style. The Bauhaus University and the Liszt School of Music Weimar, attracted many students, specializing in art, media and design, architecture, civil engineering and music. The Bauhaus in Weimar lasted from 1919 to 1925, when it moved to Dessau, after the newly-elected right-wing city council put pressure on the School by withdrawing funding and forcing its teachers to quit.Many buildings in Weimar today have influences from the Bauhaus period. However, only one original Bauhaus building was constructed during 1919-1925, the Haus am Horn, now used for exhibitions and events on Bauhaus culture. The Bauhaus Museum, on Theaterplatz, offers an exhibition of works from the Bauhaus period in Weimar and screens an infomovie about the movement's influences on Weimar city.
Nazi Germany and World War II
In 1937, the Nazis constructed the Buchenwald concentration camp, only eight kilometres from Weimar's city centre. The slogan ''Jedem das Seine'' (literally "to each his own", but figuratively "everyone gets what he deserves") was placed over the camp's main entrance gate. Between July 1938 and April 1945, some 240,000 people were incarcerated in the camp by the Nazi regime, including 168 Western Allied POWs. The number of deaths at Buchenwald is estimated at 56,545. The Buchenwald concentration camp provided slave labour for local industry (arms industry of ''Wilhelm-Gustloff-Werk'').The Allied ground advance into Germany reached Weimar in April 1945, and the city surrendered to the US 80th Infantry Division on April 12, 1945. The residents of Weimar were ordered to walk through Buchenwald, to see what had been happening so close to the city, as documented in Billy Wilder's film ''Death Mills''. The city ended up in the Soviet zone of occupation, however, so US troops were soon replaced with Russian forces. From 1945 to 1950, the Soviet Union used the occupied Buchenwald concentration camp to imprison defeated Nazis and other Germans. The camp slogan remained . On 6 January 1950, the Soviets handed over Buchenwald to the East German Ministry of Internal Affairs.
German Democratic Republic (East Germany)
Weimar was part of the German Democratic Republic (DDR, East Germany) from 1949 to 1990.
Recent years
The European Council of Ministers selected the city as European Capital of Culture for 1999.On 2 September 2004, a fire broke out at the Duchess Anna Amalia Library. The library contains a 13,000-volume collection including Goethe's masterpiece ''Faust'', in addition to a music collection of the Duchess. An authentic Lutheran Bible from 1534 was saved from the fire. The damage stretched into the millions of dollars. The number of books in this historic library exceeded 1,000,000, of which 40,000 to 50,000 were destroyed past recovery. The library, which dates back to 1691, belongs to UNESCO world heritage, and is one of the oldest libraries in Europe. The fire, with its destruction of much historical literature, amounts to a huge cultural loss for Germany, Europe, and indeed the world. A number of books were shock-frozen in the city of Leipzig to save them from rotting. On 24 October 2007 the library reopened. Visitors were advised to book their tickets many months in advance.

Onion Market
The Onion Market (Weimarer Zwiebelmarkt) is an annual festival held in October in Weimar and it is Thuringia's largest festival. The festival is held over 3 days and approximately 500 stalls and more than 100 stage performances are put up across the city.Weimar first celebrated the Onion Market in 1653. The 2011 Onion Market – the 358th – will see again over 300,000 visitors. Stalls typically offer onion plaits, themed arts and crafts and numerous onion-based foods, including onion cakes, onion soups and onion breads. The festival also hosts numerous beer gardens, live music, fairground attractions and a Ferris wheel.

There are several clubs with live music once or twice a week. The two student clubs in the city centre also feature disco and live music events on Friday- and Saturday nights (Studentenclub Schützengasse, Kasseturm). There are several smaller theatre and cabaret venues other than the large "DNT" (Deutsches National Theater). There are four cinemas including a 3-D cinema.
Transport
For a small city, Weimar is well served by city bus routes, which also serve all of the annex towns and villages. An hourly bus route serves the Buchenwald Memorial. There are also many places to rent bikes in the city centre. Weimar is part of the Goethe cycle tour route and the Ilm Valley cycle tour.Weimar is connected by one motorway, the Autobahn A4 (A4) and two routes: B7 and B85
Weimar station is on the ICE express train line (ICE) from Frankfurt, to Dresden and Berlin, with trains stopping every hour. The ICE service to Leipzig takes 50 minutes and the service to Dresden takes two hours. There are frequent train services to neighboroung cities Erfurt (westbound) and Jena (eastbound), taking approximately 15 minutes to either city. Though, recently many ICEs don't stop in Weimar any more.
The nearest airports are Erfurt and Leipzig-Halle.

Biography
Early life
On November 6, 1963, Rozz Williams was born Roger Alan Painter in Pomona, California, and was raised in a strict Southern Baptist family with his three older siblings (one sister, two brothers) in Pomona, California. As a child, he was a fan of David Bowie, Roxy Music, T.Rex, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, and The New York Dolls. When he reached adolescence in the late 1970s, he became attracted to the punk rock music scene. In his teenage years, he found the name "Rozz Williams" on a Pomona gravestone and decided to use it as his own.
Performance in bands
By the age of 16 he began performing in bands. He took the name of ''Rozz Williams'' from a gravestone he found in a Pomona cemetery. His first bands were called ''The Crawlers'', ''No'', then later ''The Upsetters''. He sang and played the guitar, though the band never performed on stage. He then went on to form ''The Asexuals''. In addition to being the lead vocalist, he played the organ and guitar, with Jill Emery also contributing vocals as well as playing bass, and Steve Darrow on drums. Their performances were limited to a few parties.He then sang in a band called ''Daucus Karota'' with Mary Torciva on percussion and Jay on guitar. Jay and Williams then went on to form Christian Death in late 1979 with James McGearty and George Belanger. The name "Christian Death" was a play on words of the fashion designer Christian Dior. The band broke up temporarily in 1981, and Williams formed Premature Ejaculation with performance artist Ron Athey, with whom he had been living. After only a few live performances, including one which involved Athey eating a crucified road-kill cat, clubs began refusing to book them.
Williams then restarted Christian Death in the summer of 1981 with McGearty and Belanger, who also brought in guitarist Rikk Agnew, who had previously been with The Adolescents.
Agnew and Belanger left the group in 1982, with guitarist Eva Ortiz and drummer Rod ''China'' Figueroa stepping in as replacements for live performances. By the end of the year the band had broken up once again due to drug problems.
In 1983, Williams formed a new band under the ''Christian Death'' name, this time with former members of Pompeii 99, with whom Christian Death had performed at a live show the previous year. The new lineup consisted of Williams as frontman, Valor Kand on guitars, Gitane Demone on keyboards and providing backing vocals, Constance Smith on bass and David Glass on drums. Williams had been the only original member of Christian Death left when he departed the group in 1985, yet the remaining members continued to perform and release several albums under the original group name. The latter is commonly called ''Valor's Christian Death'' by Rozz's supporters since it was fronted by Valor Kand.
Williams released various material under different project names following his departure from the band; the first was Premature Ejaculation with Ron Athey, and then Shadow Project with Eva O, whom he married in San Francisco in 1987. The band lineup included Johann Schumann (bass) and also Barry Galvin and David Glass, both of who came from Valor's Christian Death. The name ''Shadow Project'', was taken from the tests in Hiroshima following the nuclear bomb which left impressions or ‘shadows’, but no bodies.
Later on, Williams reformed Shadow Project with Eva O, Jill Emery (bass), Tom Morgan (drums), and Paris (keyboards). At the time, Rozz was increasingly falling under the influence of the philosophy of Charles Manson.
Williams also occasionally took part in Christian Death reunions during the late 1980s and early 1990s with Rikk Agnew, the guitarist on the band's first album. Williams and Eva O also released two new albums under the name Christian Death during the 1990s through Cleopatra Records, resulting in two bands being called Christian Death. Valor Kand had since acquired the legal rights to the band name, and for this reason Cleopatra was forced to release Rozz's albums as ''Christian Death featuring Rozz Williams''.
In the summer of 1993, Shadow Project toured America. The band consisted of Williams, Eva, Paris, Mark Barone (bass) and Christian Omar Madrigal Izzo (drums). After this American tour, Eva O and Paris left the band to work on the Eva O Halo Experience CD Demons Fall for an Angel's Kiss. Shadow Project had come to an end; however a German tour for October had already been booked. Although all tickets, flyers and publicity for this tour would show Shadow Project, Williams had decided that the band name should change to Daucus Karota. He sang on the tour, Brian Butler was the guitarist, Mark Barone played bass and Christian Omar Madrigal Izzo was on drums. For one show Gitane Demone drove from her home in Amsterdam to Germany to meet up with Williams backstage. The ''Shrine'' EP by Daucus Karota was recorded in January 1994 with Mark Barone (bass), Chistian Omar Madrigal Izzo (drums) and Roxy (guitars). Daucus Karota returned to Europe for a month long European tour in November 1994, with Gitane Demone filling the support slot. The tour had Todd Dixon on drums, Mike Saavedra from Anal Kitties on bass and Brian Hansen on guitar. Brian had replaced Rolf Donath, who had been the guitarist for the band at shows in Los Angeles and Mexico during that summer.
In 1995, following his return from Europe, Williams joined forces with Paris and Ryan Wildstar to work on the spoken-word album, ''The Whorse's Mouth''. The lyrics, co-written with Ryan Wildstar, chronicle a period of heroin addiction from which the two eventually escaped. Shortly following the recording of ''The Whorse's Mouth'', Williams began playing bass for EXP, the musical troupe created by Paris and Ryan Wildstar. He went on to play bass on their self-titled debut album with fellow bandmates Paris (keyboards), Ryan Wildstar (vocals), Doriandra (vocals), Ace Farren Ford (horns/violin), Justin Bennett (drums) and Ignacio Segovia (percussion).
Just a year before his death, Williams again paired up with Eva O to record the final Shadow Project album, ''From the Heart'', an extremely intimate album with a notably stripped-down sound for the duo. He also recorded ''Wound of Exit'', his last solo CD as Premature Ejaculation.
Painting, acting, and other interests
In addition to his musical activities Williams had a keen interest in painting along with collaging, and several of his pieces have been exhibited. His attempts at establishing an acting career were less successful.
Sexual orientation
Rozz Williams was openly bisexual, though he had only dated men for the last few years of his life. In a bonus interview in ''Death Club'' he stated he was gay, though still interested in women.
Death
On April 1, 1998, Williams hung himself in his West Hollywood apartment. His body was discovered by Ryan Wildstar, his friend and roommate of seven years. Also present were Sindie Ardia, his childhood friend and her husband (at that time) Sydney B. Lanex. Williams was 34. A memorial was held at the El Rey Theatre shortly after his death, and a small gathering of family and friends offered his ashes to the earth at Runyon Canyon Park in the Hollywood Hills.

Bois was born in Berlin and began acting in 1907, becoming one of the film world's first child actors, with a role in the silent movie ''Bauernhaus und Grafenschloß''. In 1909, he played the title role in ''Der Kleine Detektiv'' ('The Little Detective').
Bois' acting career spanned eighty years, a longer period than can be claimed by any other actor. His final performance was in 1987's ''Der Himmel über Berlin'' (''Wings of Desire''). Bois performed in theatre, cabaret, musicals, silent film and "talkies" over his career as an actor.
In 1934, Bois was forced to leave his home for the United States, where he found work on stage on Broadway. By 1937, he had found his way to Hollywood, and began acting in American pictures, the best-known of which was ''Casablanca'' (1942), with a single speech warning about pickpockets as "vultures everywhere". After World War II Bois decided it was safe to return to Germany, which he did in 1950. He finished his life and career in Germany, first in the East, and finally in the West. Bois died in Berlin, the city of his birth, at the age of ninety.

Shawn Lane (March 21, 1963 – September 26, 2003) was an American musician. Although piano was his first instrument, he quickly became a noted player in underground guitar circles and joined Black Oak Arkansas when he was just fourteen years old.
He is best known for his solo album ''Powers of Ten'' and his long stint with former John McLaughlin bassist Jonas Hellborg. Lane is also well known for his shredding skills. ''Guitar World'' magazine writes, "Few, if any, guitarists can play faster than Lane could, and his arpeggio sweeps and precision-picked lines blasted more rapid-fire notes than the average human mind could comprehend."The Guitar World's July 2008 edition had an article about NPS clocking project which rated Shawn Lane as the fastest alternate picking guitarist to date, based on cleanliness, accuracy and fluency in advanced positions.
Biography
Shawn Lane was born in Memphis, Tennessee. At the age of eight he accompanied his sisters on the piano, but did not play guitar seriously until he was ten. Lane progressed very rapidly on the guitar, and he found it to be his natural instrument. At thirteen, he began to practice heavily, developing his technical abilities. Word began to spread around Memphis about a talented young guitar player, and at fourteen he auditioned for the lead guitar spot in Black Oak Arkansas. Black Oak Arkansas had been a popular Southern rock band but at the time when Lane joined the band's popularity was declining. At age fifteen Lane saw Allan Holdsworth perform at a UK concert and was inspired to develop his own method of playing guitar. Shawn toured with Black Oak Arkansas for the next four years. As the original band members dropped out, Lane began recruiting players from his high school days and began to play a style closer to fusion than the country rock style for which the band was known.At eighteen Shawn Lane was married and burnt out from touring with Black Oak Arkansas so he decided to take a break and learn more about music. Over the next eight years he studied music and composing on his own and mainly worked on playing piano. Much of the material on ''Powers of Ten'' was written on his piano as Lane considered it his main writing instrument. He quickly developed his technique on keyboards as well, taking influence from pianists like Liszt, Tatum and Cziffra. He began to create demo tapes which garnered interest from Warner Brothers Music and Lane was offered a recording contract. Except for one cover song, Lane wrote all the material and played all the instruments on his debut album. The album did well and earned several magazine awards. During the production of the album Lane continued to play live shows and did session work. He also performed on the Mark Varney Project's ''Centrifugal Funk'' album along with Brett Garsed and Frank Gambale and began recording and performing with drummer, Sean Rickman.
Lane released two more solo albums following his debut. ''Powers of Ten Live!'', recorded live in 1993, and ''The Tri-Tone Fascination''.
When Lane met Jonas Hellborg a musical relationship was formed. They both enjoyed classical, rock, Pakistani, and Indian music. Lane and Hellborg played with drummer Jeff Sipe in a jam band commonly referred to as HLS (Hellborg, Lane, Sipe). Sipe was already well known in the jam band scene as the original drummer for Aquarium Rescue Unit, and helped HLS get exposure all over the world. Later, Lane and Hellborg formed an East-West fusion band with Indian musicians V. Selvaganesh and Umamahesh. In February 2003, Lane and Hellborg toured India with drummer Andrea Marchesini. Lane's last concert performance was at Smilefest in North Carolina with Hellborg and Jim Britt.
For many years in the '80s and '90s Shawn played in a Memphis bar band called The Willys.
Equipment
During the ''Powers of Ten'' years, Lane used an Ibanez Saber and Ghostrider, as well as a sunburst yellow Charvel 750XL. For amplification, he used Holmes Mississippi Bluesmaster amps—often four at a time set at various levels of delay from one another. He used multiple amps because he liked to play in quadraphonic. In addition to the Holmes, Shawn used a Westbury (later Nady) overdrive pedal. Later in his career with Hellborg, he used and endorsed Vigier guitars; specifically the Excalibur, of which a Shawn Lane signature model was made available in 2005. Throughout this time, Lane used various amplifiers. Lane used several Line 6 DL4 delay pedals at the same time. In 2003, a video was shot of him playing a Martin Backpacker guitar in Shillong, India.
Death
Lane had psoriasis his whole life and also suffered from psoriatic arthritis from the age of about thirteen. This did not impair his playing but caused difficulty walking, and required treatment with steroids which seriously affected his weight—so much so that he weighed over three hundred pounds in the years before his death. He also smoked constantly. His friend Vijay Raj Singh, a noted physician and a multi-instrumentalist Indian musician, had moved from Memphis but had remained close to him during his final years. On September 26, 2003, Shawn died in a hospital in Memphis, shortly after being told that he would have to remain on medical oxygen the rest of his life. He is interred in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.

DJ Sakin (born Sakin Bozkurt, 2 August 1967) is a Turkish-German dance music producer, remixer and DJ. Bozkurt started producing music and DJing in 1990.

Bozkurt has been resident in the clubs Wartburg and Stonsenspliel (both Wiesbaden) and The MusicHall (Frankfurt). Since July 2003 he has run Joules Bookings, an international DJ and producer agency.
Chart success came in 1999 under the name DJ Sakin & Friends, a DJ troupe consisting of, amongst others, Torsten Stenzel. "Protect Your Mind (For The Love Of A Princess)" was #4 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1999, and went to #3 in Germany, reaching gold status. The track sampled James Horner's "Braveheart" from the film of the same name.
The follow-up single was "Nomansland (David's Song)", reaching #14 in the UK Singles Chart in June 1999. This track sampled the classical music of the Romanian composer, Vladimir Cosma.
