A. L. Lloyd
Albert Lancaster Lloyd (29 February 1908 – 29 September 1982) usually known as A. L. Lloyd or Bert Lloyd, was an English folk singer and collector of folk songs, and as such was a key figure in the folk music revival of the 1950s and 1960s. While Lloyd is most widely known for his work with British folk music, he had a keen interest in the music of Spain, Latin America, Southeastern Europe and Australia. He recorded at least six discs of Australian Bush ballads and folk music.
Lloyd also helped establish the folk music subgenre of industrial folk music through his books, recordings, collecting and theoretical writings.
Early life
Lloyd was born in Wandsworth, London, England. His father was an AA Patrolman and failed smallholder. His mother sang songs around the house and according to Lloyd mimicked the gypsy singers that she had heard. By the age of fifteen his mother had died and his father, an ex-soldier, was a semi-invalid, and Lloyd was sent as an assisted migrant to Australia in a scheme organised by the British Legion. There, from 1924–1930, he worked on various sheep stations in New South Wales and it was during this time that he began to write down folksongs he learned. In the outback of New South Wales he discovered that he could access the State Library and order books. His special interests being art and music he could get a grasp of those topics without seeing a painting or hearing any music. He also bought a wind-up gramophone and began to investigate some of the classical music he had previously read about.

South Australia
South Australia (abbreviated as SA) is a state in the southern central part of Australia. It covers some of the most arid parts of the continent. With a total land area of 983,482 square kilometres (379,725 sq mi), it is the fourth largest of Australia's states and territories.
South Australia shares borders with all of the other mainland states, and with the Northern Territory; it is bordered to the west by Western Australia, to the north by the Northern Territory, to the north-east by Queensland, to the east by New South Wales, to the south-east by Victoria, and to the south by the Great Australian Bight and the Indian Ocean. With over 1.6 million people, the state comprises less than 8% of the Australian population and ranks fifth in population among the six states and two territories. The majority of its people reside in the state capital, Adelaide. Most of the remainder are settled in fertile areas along the south-eastern coast and River Murray. The state's colonial origins are unique in Australia as a freely settled, planned British province, rather than as a convict settlement. Official settlement began on 28 December 1836, when the colony was proclaimed at the Old Gum Tree by Governor John Hindmarsh.

Ewan MacColl
James Henry Miller (25 January 1915 – 22 October 1989), better known by his stage name Ewan MacColl, was an English folk singer, songwriter, communist, labour activist, actor, poet, playwright, and record producer. He was thrice married: to theatre director Joan Littlewood; to Jean Newlove, with whom he had two children, including the singer/songwriter Kirsty MacColl; and to American folksinger Peggy Seeger, with whom he had three children, Kitty, Calum and Neill. He collaborated with Littlewood in the theatre, and with Seeger in folk music.
Early life and early career
MacColl was born as James Henry Miller at 4 Andrew Street, in Broughton, Salford in North West England, to Scottish parents, William Miller and Betsy (née Henry), both socialists. William Miller was an iron moulder and militant trade unionist who had moved to Salford with his wife, a charwoman, to look for work after being blacklisted in almost every foundry in Scotland. James Miller was the youngest and only surviving child in the family of three sons and one daughter (one of each sex was stillborn and one son died at the age of four). They lived amongst a group of Scots and Jimmy was brought up in an atmosphere of fierce political debate interspersed with the large repertoire of songs and stories his parents had brought from Scotland. He was educated at Grecian Street School in Salford. He left school in 1930 after an elementary education, during the Great Depression and, joining the ranks of the unemployed, began a lifelong programme of self-education whilst keeping warm in the Manchester Public Library. During this period he found intermittent work in a number of jobs and also made money as a street singer.

Tangarine, dat zijn Sander & Arnout Brinks, made in Lelystad 1984. Een heuse eeneiige tweeling in de studio vandaag met gitaren en geweldige stemmen.De broers maakten al vier platen in eigen beheer voordat ze in februari 2012 ontdekt werden door het grote publiek. Ook Live uit Lloyd zag ze schitteren in een minuut bij De Wereld Draait Doorrrrrr...op 4 juni 2013 was het eindelijk zover. Vijf liedjes speelde het stel uit Assen in de studio.Na hun tv-optreden stond te telefoon roodgloeiend en kwam Excelsior Records met een platendeal: Seek & Sigh verscheen in april van dit jaar. Wattle was an amazing Aussie label that recorded folk music in Australia in the 50's and 60's. Everything on the label is very rustic and authentic. Never on CD and extremely hard to find albums, 45's and 78's. I wish the catalog could be made accessible but alas it is not. Folkways needs to connect with Wattle and get this music out there!!! "Wattle Recordings was established in Sydney, New South Wales by Peter Hamilton in 1955. A former architect with an interest in film, Hamilton was attempting to source recorded Australian folk music and songs to include on film soundtracks. After finding that none of this music was commercially available he asked Edgar Waters to join him as record editor and established the company with the purpose of recording Australian traditional folk music for both film and sound. The first recordings published by Wattle included The Bushwhackers, Australia's first bush music band, and recordings of Australian folk music sung by British folklorists Ewan McColl and A. L. Lloyd. The Bushwhackers were particularly successful and many of their songs were played in rural pubs and radio stations throughout eastern Australia. Wattle continued to record numerous artists from the "folk song revival" of the 1950s. These included The Rambleers, the Morton Bay Bushwhackers, Bill Scott and Stan Arthur. In 1957 Wattle Recordings published original field recordings made by pioneer folklore collector John Meredith. Australian Traditional Musicians and Singers included many bush singers of renown including Duke Tritton and Sally Sloane. This release was followed in 1960 by a similar publication Australian Traditional Musicians and Singers in Victoria, which included field recordings of singers such as Simon McDonald and Tom Newbound. This recording was compiled by Pat and Norm O'Connor and Maryjean Officer, all members of the Folk Lore Society of Victoria. Wattle records also published a number of records featuring traditional indigenous music from Australia and Papua New Guinea that had been collected by various folklorists and anthropologists. The last record published by Wattle Recordings featured the songs of indigenous singer Dougie Young and was released in 1963. Wattle's early publications were recorded on the older 78 rpm format and the more modern 45 and 33 rpm formats. Many recordings were also released in extended or long play format. All of Wattle's publications included booklets with extensive notes on the music and often included the lyrics to the songs that were recorded. Two of Wattle's releases, The Rambleers and Australian and Traditional Musicians and Singers in Victoria were re-released by the National Library of Australia in 2003 and 2004. "
