Rachel Anne McAdams (born November 17, 1978) is a Canadian actress.

After graduating from a theatre program at York University, Toronto in 2001, she worked steadily as an actress until finding fame in 2004 with starring roles in ''Mean Girls'' and ''The Notebook''. In 2005, she appeared in ''Wedding Crashers'', ''Red Eye'' and ''The Family Stone'' and was routinely hailed by the media as "the next Julia Roberts".

However, she withdrew from public life in 2006 and 2007 to focus on herself and her family. During this time, she turned down leading roles in, amongst others, ''The Devil Wears Prada'' and ''Casino Royale''. She made a low-key return to work in 2008, starring in two little-seen independent films, ''Married Life'' and ''The Lucky Ones''.

She returned to prominence in 2009 with appearances in ''State of Play'', '''' and ''Sherlock Holmes''. 2010's ''Morning Glory'', with Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton, was billed as her first star vehicle. Woody Allen wrote a part specifically for the actress in 2011's ''Midnight in Paris''.

She will appear in two movies in 2012: romantic drama ''The Vow'' with Channing Tatum and an as-yet-untitled Terence Malick film with Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz and Javier Bardem. She will also make a cameo appearance in ''Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'', set for release on December 16, 2011.

Early life

McAdams was born in London, Ontario and grew up in nearby St. Thomas. Her mother, Sandra (née Gale), is a nurse and her father, Lance, is a retired truck driver and furniture mover. She has two younger siblings: Kayleen, a celebrity make-up artist, and Daniel. She attended Myrtle Street Public School and, later, Central Elgin Collegiate Institute. She worked at a McDonalds restaurant during the summer holidays for three years.

She began figure skating at the age of four and competed in the sport until the age of eighteen, winning regional awards. Feeling she lacked the complete discipline that was required, McAdams gave up the sport when entering university.

She appeared in Original Kids Theatre Company, London productions from the age of 12, most notably winning a performance award at the Sears Ontario Drama Festival. She intended to take cultural studies at university before being persuaded by her drama teacher that a professional acting career was a viable option. She enrolled at Toronto's York University as a drama student and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts honours degree in 2001. While at university, she worked with the Toronto-based Necessary Angels Theatre Company.

Career

Breakthrough roles

McAdams' first on-screen appearance was in 2001's ''My Name is Tanino''. She earned a Genie Award nomination in her native Canada in 2002 for her role as a teenage Wendy Crewson in ''Perfect Pie''. Her first Hollywood movie was 2002's ''The Hot Chick'', in which she played a catty high school student who swaps bodies with a small-time criminal. She later described the film as a "huge milestone" in her career. She then returned to Canada to play a recurring part in the dramedy cable series ''Slings and Arrows''.

Her breakout role came in 2004 teen comedy ''Mean Girls'', written by Tina Fey. The 25 year-old was cast as teenage Regina George, a malicious queen bee. ''Mean Girls'' topped the US box office and was a hit amongst critics who drew comparisons to 1995's ''Clueless''. McAdams herself received favourable reviews, with ''USA Today'' praising her "comic flair".

Her second role of 2004 was in ''The Notebook'', a film adaption of Nicholas Sparks' novel. She and Ryan Gosling played a young 1940s couple separated by circumstance. Despite a "treacly" storyline, critics were won over by Gosling and McAdams, with the ''New York Times'' remarking, "Their performances are so spontaneous and combustible that you quickly identify with the reckless sweethearts, who embody an innocence that has all but vanished from American teenage life. And against your better judgment, you root for the pair to beat the odds against them." It was a sleeper hit and McAdams was nominated for nearly a dozen awards, mostly at the MTV and Teen Choice Awards. "I'm so grateful to have a film that people respond to in that way," she told ''Elle'' magazine in 2011. "It was a big deal".

She starred in three films in 2005. In the smash-hit comedy, ''Wedding Crashers'', she played Claire Cleary, the daughter of an influential politician and Owen Wilson's love interest. The ''New York Times''' chief film critic, Manohla Dargis, felt McAdams "makes the most of her underdeveloped character" and "grows more appealing with every new role".

She next appeared opposite Cillian Murphy in ''Red Eye'', a Wes Craven thriller following a young woman held captive aboard a red-eye flight. The film was a box-office hit and won solid reviews. ''Variety'' found her "increasingly impressive" while Roger Ebert asserted that "she brings more presence and credibility to her role than is really expected; she acts without betraying the slightest awareness that she’s inside a genre. Her performance qualifies her for heavy-duty roles."

Her final film of 2005 was family drama ''The Family Stone'', an all-star ensemble with Diane Keaton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson and Claire Danes. The film found a sizable audience and garnered generally positive reviews. The ''New York Times'' felt that "Ms. McAdams' engaging screen presence holds your attention and sympathy despite the handicap presented by her character's personality" while'' Variety'' noted that "a deglammed but still radiant McAdams proves once again that she's the real deal, delivering a deliciously feisty performance".

Career break & low-key return

At this point in her career, she was dubbed the new "Hollywood it girl" and "the next Julia Roberts". In December 2005, she was invited to appear on an upcoming cover of ''Vanity Fair'' with Scarlett Johannson and Keira Knightley. Upon arrival on the photo set, she discovered it was a nude session and left. She later parted ways with her publicist who had failed to inform her in advance. Knightley later said, "It was actually pretty undramatic as I remember it. Quite early on Rachel just said, 'No, I'm not into that.' She's a lovely girl, and I really respect her for doing that." The cover's photographer, Tom Ford, explained, "She realised that she really wasn't [fine with it], and that was fine... She just asked if she could be excluded from the cover." When asked about the incident in 2008, McAdams had "no regrets”.

McAdams withdrew from public life in 2006 and 2007, taking time off to focus on herself and her family. "It was the right thing for me to do at the time," she later said. During this period, the actress turned down roles in ''The Devil Wears Prada'', ''Casino Royale'', ''Mission: Impossible III'' and ''Get Smart''. Despite keeping a low profile, she received a Rising Star Award nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 2006 and hosted the 2006 Academy Awards for Technical Achievement.

She returned to work in 2008, with two low-key releases. ''Married Life'', a film noir with Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson, was a box-office flop but critics welcomed McAdams' return to the silver screen. ''Entertainment Weekly'' found her "a particularly delightful vision after her two-year intermission". ''Variety'''s critic felt that, while McAdams had been "regrettably absent from the big screen since ''The Family Stone'' nearly two years ago" and here "endows her readings with tender feeling", "her natural vivaciousness and spontaneity are straightjacketed by the format".

Her second film of 2008, ''The Lucky Ones'', a story about three Iraq War soldiers on a brief road trip back in the U.S., was another box-office flop and received uncomplimentary reviews. McAdams' performance, however, was praised. The ''New York Times'' found her "luminous as always",'' Variety'' found her "as captivating as ever" while Roger Ebert hailed the performance as "her coming of age as an actress". "Previously she has been seen mostly as a hot chick or an idealized sweetheart", he wrote. "Here she is feisty, vulnerable, plucky, warm, funny. She provides yet another lesson that you can't judge acting ability until you see an actor given a chance to really stretch. Watch the poignance of the scene when she meets her boyfriend's family."

Return to prominence

She starred in three films in 2009. The first was well-reviewed political thriller ''State of Play'' with Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren and Russell Crowe.'' Entertainment Weekly'' felt she was "perfectly cast as an ambitious wonkette" while ''The New York Times'' noted that "there is some fun to be had in watching [Crowe and McAdams] lock horns..and engage in fine snappy banter."

Her second 2009 project was ''The Time Traveler's Wife'', an adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's bestselling novel. It was a financial success but the critical response was muted. Peter Travers of ''Rolling Stone'' said, "I'd watch the vibrant Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in anything, but ''The Time Traveler's Wife'' is pushing it." The ''Los Angeles Times'' found her "luminous [yet], sadly, her facility as an actress is mostly wasted." Writing in ''The Chicago Tribune'', Michael Phillips, in an otherwise tepid review, said of her performance: “Every scene she’s in, even the silly ones, becomes better — truer, often against long odds — because she’s in it. Her work feels emotionally spontaneous yet technically precise. She has an unusually easy touch with both comedy and drama, and she never holds a melodramatic moment hostage.”

''Sherlock Holmes'' was her final movie of the year and it stands as her highest-grossing to date. She played Irene Adler, a love interest for Robert Downey, Jr.'s Sherlock. While the movie won generally favourable reviews, critics were left unimpressed with her performance. ''Variety'' felt her character was "not very well integrated into the rest of the story, a shortcoming the normally resourceful McAdams is unable to do much about". The ''New York Times'' stated, "Ms. McAdams is a perfectly charming actress and performs gamely as the third wheel of this action-bromance tricycle. But Irene feels in this movie more like a somewhat cynical commercial contrivance. She offers a little something for the ladies and also something for the lads, who, much as they may dig fights and explosions and guns and chases, also like girls."

2010 onwards

2010's ''Morning Glory'', a behind-the-scenes look at an ailing morning television program, was billed as a starring vehicle for the actress but was only a modest commercial success. While critics found the movie "formulaic", McAdams' performance was widely praised. Kenneth Turan of the ''Los Angeles Times'' said she "gives the kind of performance we go to the movies for". Roger Ebert felt she played "as lovable a lead as anyone since Amy Adams in ''Junebug''" in an otherwise "routine" movie. The ''New York Post'' was impressed by "her gift for physical comedy" while ''Variety'' was won over by a "flustery physicality that is delightful to watch". While the ''New York Times'' felt she "plays her role exceptionally well" and is "effortlessly likable", it called on Hollywood to give her parts "worthy" of her talent. "Ms. McAdams has to rely on her dimples to get by. She does, but she could do better."

McAdams' first film of 2011, Woody Allen's ''Midnight in Paris'', opened the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and saw her reunite with ''Wedding Crashers''' Owen Wilson. Allen wrote the part of Inez for her on the recommendation of her former co-star Diane Keaton. It has become Allen's top grossing picture ever in North America and was lauded by critics. However, there were mixed reactions to McAdams' shrewish character. ''The Guardian'' bemoaned that she "has morphed from the sweet thing in ''Wedding Crashers'' to the dream-crushing bitch that, according to American comedies, women become once they ensnare their man". Richard Corliss of ''TIME'' was equally disappointed: "Allen pours an immense amount of odium on Inez.. I felt sorry for McAdams, whose usually winning presence is ground into hostile chiché." However, the ''Los Angeles Times'' felt she "deftly handles a part that is less amiable than usual for her" and the ''New York Times'' found her "superbly speeded-up".

Her second screen appearance of 2011 will be a cameo role in ''Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'', set for release on December 16, 2011. The lead female role will now be played by Noomi Rapace.

She will star in two films in 2012. ''The Vow'', a romantic drama with Channing Tatum, is due out Valentine's Day 2012. Based on the true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, it focuses on a newlywed couple's struggle following a car accident that leaves the wife with severe memory loss. The tentatively titled ''The Burial'', a Terrence Malick ensemble piece, has been picked up by a distributor and there is unconfirmed speculation that it will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. It is understood that she plays the lover of Ben Affleck in a romantic drama which also features Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz.

Personal life

McAdams lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with her younger brother, Daniel. However, she holds a US green card and has remarked, "I never thought I’d say this, but I actually miss L.A. when I’m not there."

She is in a relationship with Welsh actor Michael Sheen whom she met on the set of ''Midnight in Paris'' in July 2010. Previously, she dated Canadian actor Ryan Gosling from 2005 to 2007; they also reconciled for a number of months in 2008. Following their split, Gosling described her as "one of the great loves of my life". She also had a brief romance with American actor Josh Lucas in 2009.

She practices kundalini yoga daily and runs an eco-friendly lifestyle website, GreenIsSexy.org, with two friends.

Ryan Thomas Gosling (born November 12, 1980) is a Canadian actor and musician.

Having first gained notice at the age of 12 as a mouseketeer on the variety show ''The Mickey Mouse Club'', Gosling has built a reputation for playing misfits in independent films: a fanatic Neo-Nazi in the ''The Believer'' (2001), a drug-addicted junior high school teacher in ''Half Nelson'' (2006), a socially inept loner in ''Lars and the Real Girl'' (2007) and a frazzled husband in ''Blue Valentine'' (2010). His most commercially successful movie to date is 2004's romantic drama ''The Notebook''. He has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Leading Actor (for ''Half Nelson'') and two Golden Globe Awards (for ''Lars and the Real Girl'' and ''Blue Valentine'').

2011 saw him expand his horizons. He appeared in his first comedic role in ''Crazy, Stupid, Love'' and his first action role in ''Drive''. His next film, political drama ''The Ides of March'', is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31, 2011.

He formed a band named Dead Man's Bones with his friend, Zach Shields, and they released their self-titled debut album in 2009. The two met in 2005 (Shields was dating Rachel McAdams' sister) and quickly realized that they shared an obsession with ghosts. Thus, they decided to form their band around the themes of ghosts and monsters.

Early life

Gosling was born in London, Ontario but grew up in Cornwall. He is the son of Donna, a secretary, and Thomas Gosling, a paper mill worker. He was raised in a Latter Day Saint family, and has since stated that he "wasn't really Mormon, my parents were". His parents divorced when he was young and he was raised by his mother. He has said that he had "no pals" as a child and was homeschooled for a year after being bullied in elementary school.

He performed from an early age. He and his older sister, Mandi, sang together at weddings; he performed with his uncle's Elvis Presley tribute act, Elvis Perry, and he was involved with a local dance company. He spent part of his childhood in Florida, USA after successfully auditioning for a part on ''The Mickey Mouse Club'' at the age of twelve.

He developed an idiosyncratic accent as a child, later explaining, "As a kid I thought having a Canadian accent didn't sound tough. I thought guys should sound like Marlon Brando. So now I have a phony accent that I can't shake, so it's not phony anymore."

He dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen to focus on his acting career.

Career

Gosling first made his name as a child actor on ''The Mickey Mouse Club'' alongside fellow future stars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. He also appeared in many Canadian television series and movies including ''Goosebumps'' and ''Breaker High'', and, in 1998, he moved to New Zealand to film the adventure series ''Young Hercules''.

His first serious role was in 2001's controversial drama ''The Believer,'' which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He has described it as "the film that kind of gift-wrapped for me the career that I have now. I suddenly found myself at Sundance, where people were asking me about my craft. So I had to pretend I had one." In 2002 and 2003, he appeared in ''The Slaughter Rule'', ''Murder by Numbers'' and ''The United States of Leland''.

In 2004, he starred opposite Rachel McAdams in the sleeper hit ''The Notebook''. The film made stars of its two leads, had huge popular culture resonance and frequently appears on Most Romantic Movies lists. The chemistry between Gosling and McAdams was often remarked upon, with the New York Times writing, "Their performances are so spontaneous and combustible that you quickly identify with the reckless sweethearts, who embody an innocence that has all but vanished from American teenage life. And against your better judgment, you root for the pair to beat the odds against them." In 2005, his sole appearance was in critical and box-office flop, ''Stay.''

In 2006, he appeared as a drug-addicted, junior high school history teacher in ''Half Nelson'', for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award and won Best Actor at the Spirit Awards. He also starred opposite Anthony Hopkins in the 2007 courtroom thriller Fracture.

Gosling focused mainly on his band Dead Man's Bones in 2008 and 2009, releasing a debut album and touring North America.

In 2010, he co-starred with Michelle Williams in Derek Cianfrance's directorial debut, ''Blue Valentine''. The low-budget film was mainly improvised: "Most movies when you're acting you're trying to block out the lights and the trailers. Here, you had to remind yourself you were making a film," says Gosling. "Michelle and I found it hard to take off our wedding bands when it was over. We'd built this castle and then had to tear it down." His performance was nominated for many awards, most notably a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama. Also in 2010, he narrated ''ReGeneration'', a documentary that explores the cynicism in today’s youth towards social and political causes, and starred opposite Kirsten Dunst in ''All Good Things''. He declined to promote the latter amid rumours he clashed with the director, Andrew Jarecki, on set. When asked if he was proud of the film, he replied, "I'm proud of what Kirsten does in the movie".

Personal life

Gosling lives in New York with his dog of eleven years, George.

He was in a relationship with Rachel McAdams, his co-star in ''The Notebook'', from 2005 to 2007. They also reconciled for a number of months in 2008. Following their split, Gosling said: "God bless ''The Notebook''... It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that."

He dated Sandra Bullock, sixteen years his senior, for over a year from 2002 to 2003, after meeting on the set of ''Murder by Numbers''.

He co-owns a Moroccan restaurant called Tagine in Beverly Hills, California.

Supportive of various social causes, he has worked particularly closely with the Enough Project.. He was Hollywood's representative at the ''Campus Progress National Conference'' in 2008 where he spoke out about Darfur. Gosling said, "For some reason, there's an interest in what people who do what I do have to say... I'm honored to have these experiences." Kevin Nealon (; born November 18, 1953) is an American actor and comedian, best known as a cast member on ''Saturday Night Live'' from 1986 to 1995, acting in several of the Happy Madison films, for playing Doug Wilson on the Showtime series ''Weeds'', and providing the voice of the title character, Glenn Martin on ''Glenn Martin, DDS''.

Early life

Nealon was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Kathleen and Emmett Nealon, an aircraft company executive. A few months after he was born, the family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. He graduated from St. Joseph High School (Trumbull, Connecticut) in 1971 and then graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing from Sacred Heart University (and worked in a variety of part-time jobs while doing stand-up comedy).

Career

Nealon debuted on network television doing a stand-up routine for ''The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson'' in 1984. In 1986, ''Saturday Night Live'' recruited his friend Dana Carvey, and Carvey in turn recommended Nealon. Both joined the cast that year, and Nealon became a full-time performer in the 1987-1988 season, and remained for nine seasons.

Nealon's ''SNL'' characters include Mr. Subliminal (or Subliminal Message Man), Franz (of Hans and Franz) along with Dana Carvey, Mr. No Depth Perception, the anchor of Weekend Update (where his catchphrase was "That's news to me"), and many others.

In 1991, he starred in the holiday movie, ''All I Want for Christmas''. More recently Nealon has appeared in the movies ''Happy Gilmore'', ''Anger Management'', ''Little Nicky'', ''Daddy Day Care'', ''Good Boy!'' and ''Grandma's Boy''. In fall 2005, he appeared in an episode of ''Curb Your Enthusiasm'', where he played himself (Season 5, Episode 4).

Nealon had a recurring television role on the 2002-06 CBS comedy ''Still Standing'' playing Ted Halverson, the Millers' competitive and religious neighbor. He has also appeared as a patient in a mental institution on the first season of ''Monk''. "Deja Vu" is an episode of ''The Outer Limits'' television show. It first aired on 9 July 1999, during the fifth season. Nealon played Dr. Mark Crest. Nealon has an ongoing supporting role as Doug Wilson on the show ''Weeds'' on Showtime.

In 1994, Nealon hosted the 13 part series ''Amazing America'' on the Discovery Channel.

In 2002, Nealon Hosted The Conspiracy Zone on The New TNN for 26 episodes plus an unaired pilot.

Nealon appeared as a couples counselor on the sitcom, ''3rd Rock From The Sun''. He had a small cameo appearance in the 2008 film ''Get Smart''.

Nealon also hosted the ''World's Funniest Commercials'' on TBS. In a performance similar to Bob Saget, Nealon tells corny jokes in between each funny commercial. In 2008, a book authored by Nealon chronicling his experiences during his wife's pregnancy called ''Yes, You're Pregnant, But What About Me?'' was released.

Nealon played Stuart Pearson in the adventure comedy movie ''Aliens in the Attic''. Shooting took place in Auckland, New Zealand.

Personal life

Nealon married actress Susan Yeagley on September 3, 2005 in Bellagio, Italy. Yeagley gave birth to their first child, son Gable Ness Nealon, on January 29, 2007 in Santa Monica, California.

Nealon is an old boy for Connecticut Yankees RFC.

On February 22, 2006, Nealon contributed a story to the ''New York Times'' about being wiretapped by Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano, who has been indicted on racketeering and conspiracy charges. It was also revealed in a separate court case on February 27, 2006, that investigators working for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus may also have targeted Nealon for wiretapping.

He has been a vegetarian for 18 years due to animal cruelty and the health benefits. He lives in the Los Angeles area.

He is an avid golfer and poker player and also plays banjo and guitar.

Activism

Nealon and his ex-wife Linda Dupree (who played one of the mud wrestlers fighting John Candy in ''Stripes'') had been active in the animal rights movement, supporting fundraising events for the Amanda Foundation, Farm Sanctuary, the Washington Wildlife Protection Association, The Ark Trust's Genesis Awards and also Meat Out.

In 2001, Nealon played on ''Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'' for his charity. The final question he faced, worth $125,000, was about Barbie dolls. He used his 50:50 and Phone-A-Friend, but he answered the question wrong, walking away with $32,000.

Fred Willard (born September 18, 1939) is an American comedian, actor and voice over actor known for his improvisational comedy skills. He is known for his roles in the Christopher Guest mockumentary films ''This is Spinal Tap'', ''Waiting for Guffman'', ''Best in Show'', ''A Mighty Wind'', and ''For Your Consideration'' as well as television series ''D.C. Follies''. He is an alumnus of The Second City comedy troupe. He received three Emmy nominations for his recurring role on the TV series ''Everybody Loves Raymond'' as Robert Barone's father-in-law, Hank MacDougall.

Early life

Willard grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. His father died in 1951. Willard is a former U.S. soldier, having graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute and the Virginia Military Institute. After his tour in the Army, Willard auditioned alongside Robert Klein for The Second City, which consisted of a nightclub manager and his employee. The audition helped the two secure the job. He is an alumnus of The Second City and currently heads a sketch comedy workshop, The MoHos. He was a founding member of the improvisational comedy group, Ace Trucking Company. Fellow members of Ace included Bill Saluga and Patti Deutsch, among others. They appeared regularly on ''This is Tom Jones''.

In a December 2010 interview with online film magazine mondo-video.com, Willard talked in detail of his coming of age in Cleveland, Ohio, and being influenced by seeing comedian Spike Jones live in concert, "when I was a kid, I saw something in Cleveland that really influenced me. I saw Spike Jones on stage in Cleveland. And I had never seen comedy like this before. It was all new to me. I remember musicians on stage, and they’d do take-offs of popular songs. There was this one bit they did with a women on stage with a harp. She sat there the whole show and never played it, and no one on stage drew any attention to her. I couldn’t believe just how hip this type of humor was. It was cutting edge for back then".

Career

Willard achieved wider fame as Martin Mull's impossibly dense sidekick, "Jerry Hubbard," on the television shows ''Fernwood 2 Night'', ''Forever Fernwood'', and ''America 2-Night'', which parodied the nighttime talk shows of the day. He was an original cast member of the NBC comedy series Real People from 1979 to 1985. From 1987 to 1989, he starred as a bartender/straightman in Sid and Marty Krofft's ''D.C. Follies'', where all the other regular characters were Krofft puppets portraying political figures of the time. In 1990, Willard hosted the cable TV show "Access America" on the ''Ha!'' Comedy Network. As part of that show, he appeared September 21, 1990 on Episode #7 of the cult Public-access television show ''Decoupage'' with Summer Caprice. In 1995, Willard reunited with his ''Fernwood'' co-star playing Scott, the romantic partner of Mull's character, Leon Carp, on ''Roseanne''. The couple married in the episode "December Bride" and Scott became a recurring character during the series' final two seasons. That same year, Willard had guest starred in three episodes of ''Sister, Sister'', starring Tia and Tamera Mowry; Willard played Carl Mitushka, a teacher at Roosevelt High who often spoke popular teenage slang terms in order to sound cool to his students. Willard guest-voiced a 1999 episode of ''The Simpsons'' titled Sunday, Cruddy Sunday as Wally Kogen, a travel agent. From 2001 to 2002, he played the father of five children on ''Maybe It's Me''. He has also guest starred in an episode of ''The Weird Al Show''.

His most recent notable work has been in Christopher Guest films, such as ''A Mighty Wind'', in which he played "Mike LaFontaine", a character known for his catchphrase, "Eh? Wha' happened?"; ''Best in Show'', in which he portrayed "Buck Laughlin," a dog show announcer who offered up an unending stream of bad jokes and off-color comments; ''Waiting for Guffman'', in which he played "Ron Albertson," a travel agent who performs in amateur stage productions with his wife; ''This Is Spinal Tap'', in which he played a lieutenant on the military base where Spinal Tap play; and ''For Your Consideration'', as an obnoxious entertainment television show anchor. He also appeared as KVWN news director "Ed Harken" in, ''Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'', and in ''American Wedding'' as Michelle Flaherty's father, "Harold."

Willard had a recurring role as "Hank MacDougall" on the later seasons of CBS' ''Everybody Loves Raymond''. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for this role in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Willard was also the host of a VH1 documentary series called ''Totally Obsessed'' about people obsessed with their hobbies. He appears as "Captain Ribmanman" in Episode 21 of ''Channel Frederator'', a podcast from Kansas. Willard also landed a role on ''Family Guy'' as Jeff Campbell, the father of a nudist family (first appearing in "From Method to Madness"). It is unclear whether or not the role will be reprised. Willard also voices "Officer Brown" in ''King of the Hill'' and has made an appearance on ''That '70s Show''.

Willard frequently appears in sketches on ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'', typically as a government official, businessman, or other authority figure named Willard J. Fredericks, who is always drinking. He also hosted ''Saturday Night Live'' in 1978 (musical guest: Devo) and appeared twice on SNL's rival show, ''MADtv''. Two years before this, he made a minor appearance in the movie ''Silver Streak'' as a bemused railway station worker.

He was the voice of a clueless companion to a lazy robot (Martin Mull) in one episode of the series ''Dexter's Laboratory'' and guest-starred on the Adult Swim cartoon, ''Tom Goes to the Mayor''. He acted in the Cartoon Network movie ''Re-Animated'' and played Vala Mal Doran's "father" in an episode of ''Stargate SG-1'' in 2007. He appeared in an episode of the Adult Swim program ''Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!''. He has also starred as the "Boogie Man" in an episode of ''The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy'' and reprised his role in the movie, ''Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure''. His final appearance as "Boogey" occurred in ''Billy & Mandy: Wrath of the Spider Queen''. In 2007, he made a guest appearance on the children's TV series ''Come on Over''. He's also guest-starred on an episode of ''The Boondocks'' providing the voice of "Joe Petto." In 2008, he guest starred on ''Transformers Animated'' as the Decepticon arms dealer Swindle.

Willard was cast as a sportscaster in the television series ''Back to You'', which premiered on the Fox Network on September 19, 2007. He also made an appearance in the 2007 sci-fi comedy ''I'll Believe You'' and he plays Shelby Forthright, the CEO of the Buy n Large Corporation in live-action segments in the Pixar animated film ''WALL-E''.

Willard completed a sold-out run of ''Fred Willard: Alone At Last!'', advertised as a one-man show but actually featuring a cast of 10, and received Los Angeles Artistic Director Awards for Best Comedy and Best Production. He has completed a RiffTrax with Michael J. Nelson for the movie ''Missile to the Moon''.

He was seen roasting William Shatner in the Comedy Central special ''The Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner'' on August 12, 2006. Also at the roast was George Takei with whom Willard performed in the improv show ''Thank God You're Here''.

Willard is the voice of the character "Ed Warmer" in the PlayStation Portable game ''Hot Brain''.

In 2007, Willard took the role of "Aslo" in ''Epic Movie''.

Willard was part of the one-night celebrity performed staging of Howard Ashman's unproduced musical ''Dreamstuff''. The musical was re-imagined by Howard's partners Marsha Malamet and Dennis Green and performed one night only at Los Angeles' Hayworth Theatre as part of the Bruno Kirby celebrity reading series, directed by Ugly Betty's Michael Urie. Willard starred in the show alongside Eden Espinosa, Vicki Lewis, David Blue (actor) and Luke Macfarlane.

On October 5, 2008, he hosted the Nickelodeon Fido Awards.

Willard played the father of Phil (Ty Burrell) in the episodes "Undeck the Halls" and "Travels with Scout" of the show ''Modern Family''. He will return in the same role next season.
