Winter 2009. That was the original release date pinned on Rockstar Games' long-awaited bullet-time ballet, Max Payne 3. Years later and after multiple delays, it appears gamers will finally get to become the trigger-happy detective again this month. There's no going back now, the Max Payne 3 launch trailer has arrived, whether Max likes it or not. Read More »

First Assassin's Creed 3 Gameplay Trailer Delivers the Stalking, Stabbing Goods

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 10, 2012 8:37 AM | Comment

There are a couple quick scenes in the just released Assassin's Creed 3 debut gameplay trailer that make me think Ubisoft is working on something special. One shows new protagonist Ratonhnhake:ton (or Connor if, like me, you're stumbling for the proper pronunciation) going through a Colonial era home instead of clamoring up and over it. Another shows a massive, hilly battlefield full of soldiers firing muskets and Connor navigating his way through the mayhem. Mission accomplished, Ubisoft. I'm now itching to play Assassin's Creed 3. Hitman: Absolution Gets Release Date, Pre-Order Standalone Sniper Game

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 10, 2012 7:38 AM | Comment

When it comes to Hitman: Absolution, pre-order means pre-play. In a move that could have ramifications for what it means to pre-purchase a videogame, Square Enix and GameStop have revealed Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a standalone Agent 47 experience, complete with online leaderboards and monthly prizes, that Hitman: Absolution pre-order customers will be able to play on PC beginning in August. That's almost four months before Absolution's just announced November 20 release. Read More »

Comparing Notes on Civilization 5: Gods & Kings

By Mike Nelson | PC Previews | May 10, 2012 7:00 AM | Comment

When 2K and Firaxis announced the Civilization 5: Gods & Kings expansion, turn-based strategy fans in the GameSpy offices gave a standing ovation to the return of religion and espionage, and a promise of a much-needed combat revamp. Now that I've had a chance to go hands-on with a preview build, it's time to look back through my notes and compare and contrast what I played with what was promised. So, how'd it do? Let's take a look. Read More »

Exclusive! First Hands On with Grim Dawn

By Mike Sharkey | PC Previews | May 10, 2012 5:44 AM | Comment

Ripped from the pages of Stephen King's The Dark Tower novels, the Victorian-era town of Burrwitch is a wasteland of deserted dirt roads and derelict clapboard homes. But something lurks beneath the ruddy earth of this ghost town -- something hungry. It greets me with clutching hands and gaping mouth, and in a blink, it is everywhere. My Occultist character returns the greeting with magically fortified rounds fired from a pepperbox revolver and arcane spells that bind, blast, and fry. Welcome to Grim Dawn. Read More »

Interview: Serious Details About Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter Going F2P

By Mike Nelson | PC News | May 9, 2012 4:03 PM | Comment

Yesterday we learned that the two-year-old shooter Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is getting some new DLC. Oh, and most of the original Second Encounter content will become free to play come May 15th. It seems like a bizarre move, so we went to Croteam to get more info on what inspired it, and what this bold move means for the more recent Serious Sam 3: BFE. Read More »

Review: Orion: Dino Beatdown

By Richard Cobbett | PC Reviews | May 9, 2012 2:58 PM | Comment

Orion: Dino Beatdown is a game about surviving as long as you can in a world infested with bugs and gremlins. Sometimes, you also get to kill dinosaurs. For a game that tries to give extinction a helping hand with guns and jetpacks, that's pretty sad -- but it's just the start of the problems in this shooter that doesn't seem to know the meaning of the word "beta." Yo Notch, What's Up With "Hyperplayer" in 0x10c?

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 9, 2012 1:14 PM | Comment

Oh Notch, you crazy Swedish mastermind. What in the world is hyperplayer? You know, that word above multiplayer in the 0x10c title screen you just tweeted? Is it too insane to hope that it will somehow connect all of the Minecraft worlds into one universe that we can traverse via the space travel of 0x10c? Probably, but I'm going to believe it until the fedora'd one says otherwise. Read More »

Second Modern Warfare 3 Content Pack Revealed

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 9, 2012 12:06 PM | Comment

Activision isn't particularly great about getting its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 content to PC players in a timely manner, as evidenced by how long it took us to get Content Collection 1. Now, on the heels of that release, here comes Content Collection 2. It comes out for Xbox 360 on May 22nd, but that dastardly release date for the PC remains TBA. Well, at least you can see what you'll be waiting for within. Read More »

Dead Space 3 Rumors Begin to Emerge

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 9, 2012 11:13 AM | Comment

Yesterday, EA confirmed the development of Dead Space 3, and would you look at that, today IGN has scrounged up some tasty rumors about what could be included in the sequel. The biggest surprise? Isaac won't be dismembering Necromorphs on his own thanks to the addition of a cooperative campaign mode. Read More »

Like This: Insomniac's Outernauts is for Facebook

By Taylor Cocke | PC News | May 9, 2012 10:29 AM | Comment

Huh. Insomniac Games isn't exactly known for resting on its laurels, but this is a rather huge change. In 2006, it shifted from cartoony action platformers to the significantly more serious Resistance series, and now it's making yet another leap. Outernauts has just been announced, and it's an RPG to be played on Facebook. Read More »

Shut the Front Door: Wolfenstein Turns 20 Today, Celebrate with Browser Shooting

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 9, 2012 8:16 AM | Comment

Thanks, Bethesda and id Software, I now feel like I should be walking with a cane. A very cool cane with a gray marble handle sculpted in the shape of a shark and maybe even a hidden sword blade, but a cane nonetheless. Wolfenstein, the 3D first-person shooter that started it all is 20 years old today. Twenty! If you'll allow me a moment to get the creak out of my back, I'll stand and applaud. Then I'll quickly sit back down, because I'm feeling old and in celebration of this landmark, Bethesda has created a free browser version of the original Nazi hunting shooter. Read More »

BioShock Infinite Delayed Until 2013... to Clear the Way for Grand Theft Auto V?

By Mike Sharkey | PC News | May 9, 2012 6:55 AM | Comment

With a heavy heart, I poured some Murder of Crows out this morning for my delayed homey. BioShock Infinite has been bumped all the way back from its original October 16 release date to the end of February 2013. And while Ken Levine himself says the delay is meant to give Irrational Games more time to make BioShock Infinite "even more extraordinary," I can't help but wonder if publisher 2K Games made the move to reserve holiday 2012 for Grand Theft Auto V.
