The Battle of Britpop (Oasis vs Blur) 1995
The Battle of Britpop (Oasis vs Blur) 1995
french television The Battle of Britpop is the unofficial title given to the 1995 singles chart battle between two popular Britpop groups, Blur and Oasis. The two bands had had a long-running feud with each side expressing their hatred for the other. On one occasion Noel Gallagher of Oasis said he wished that Damon Albarn and Alex James of Blur would "catch AIDS and die" (he later apologized for his comments). The feud between the two bands came into the mainstream in 1995 when Blur decided to release their single "Country House" a week early to coincide with Oasis's single "Roll With It". In the end, Blur won the battle by 58000 sales: "Country House" sold 274000 copies to 216000 copies sold of "Roll with It". Blur and Oasis have distanced themselves as much as possible from this event, as Oasis say they considered it over-hyped nonsense that they never really took seriously and accused Damon Albarn of merely trying to promote Blur by over-hyping the situation. Damon Albarn has also expressed regret of this incident.

Elegy for Britpop albums destined never to be rereleased as Deluxe Remastered Editions
Words by backwards7. Read by Steve Lamacq. This came about after Word reader backwards7 contributed the elegy to the Word blog at wordtr.im . We decided it should be voiced, and who better to do so than the King of Britpop himself, Steve Lamacq? Steve kindly obliged, we added some Mahler, and clumsily put together a slideshow. The rest, as The Verve so rightly said, is History.
