Paul Misraki (January 28, 1908 – October 29, 1998) was a French composer of popular music and film scores. Over the course of over 60 years, Misraki wrote the music to 130 films, scoring works by directors like Jean Renoir, Claude Chabrol, Jacques Becker, Jean-Pierre Melville, Jean-Luc Godard, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Orson Welles, Luis Buñuel and Roger Vadim.
For his work, he was made a Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur.
Born Paul Misrachi in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire (now Istanbul, Turkey) into a French Jewish family of Italian descent, Misraki showed an early aptitude for music. He went to Paris to study classical composition, and by the 1930s had become an established jazz pianist, arranger and writer of popular songs; around this time he began composing film scores, with his first known work being for Jean Renoir's first sound film, On purge bébé, for which he was uncredited.
Like Renoir, Misraki fled France during the World War II German occupation. After a brief stay in Argentina, Misraki ended up in Hollywood, where he composed the music to all of Renoir's American films. After the war, Misraki returned to France, working busily throughout the 1950s, a period when he was routinely scoring half a dozen or more films a year. These included numerous films by Yves Allégret and Jean Boyer, as well as two films by Jacques Becker (Ali Baba et les quarante voleurs and Montparnasse 19) and Orson Welles' Mr. Arkadin.
Raymond Ventura (16 April 1908, Paris, France – 30 March 1979, Palma de Mallorca, Spain) was a French jazz bandleader. He played a significant role in popularizing jazz in France in the 1930s. His nephew was singer Sacha Distel.
Ventura played piano in a group called The Collegiate Five from 1924, which recorded under the name Ray Ventura and His Collegians for Columbia Records beginning in 1928. He led the group from 1929 and recorded for Decca Records and other labels through the 1930s, becoming a popular dance ensemble in France in that decade. His sidemen included Philippe Brun, Alix Combelle, and Guy Paquinet. One of his group's popular songs from 1936 was "Tout va très bien, Madame la Marquise," in which the Marquise is told by her servants that everything is fine at home, except for a series of escalating calamities. It is seen as a metaphor for France's obliviousness to the approaching war.
He led a big band in South America from 1942-44, before returning to lead a group in France from 1945 to 1949. During his tour in Brazil during the Second World War he was joined by the French singer Henri Salvador (1917–2008). Two years later in Argentina the French trumpet player Georges Henry joined the group after having left the Lecuona Cuban boys. Henry later worked at the creation of TV Tupi in Brazil.

Check out this great jazzy theme from Jean Pierre Melville's LE DOULOS. Paul Misraki composed the classic noir score with jazz overtones including some very dramatic orchestral scoring, especially for the finale of the film. Misraki also scored for J.L.Godart's ALPHAVILLE using a totaly different apporach - most reminiscent to Bernard Herrmann's style.
