Mother’s Day Recap
brown bird green string

Had a fantastic Mother’s Day at the Estate!  Wanted to share a pic of a necklace I made for my own mother: Minty fresh! Assorted glass and seed beads on wire with silver clasp. As well as a pic of the handmade card: Fabric and twine on recycled paper. Closeup Hope all the mamas out there had some hugs, laughs and fun too!

FO: Stop dreaming of a quiet life, ’cause it’s the one you’ll never know.

While I was in Italy last month, I took a trip to the open-air market, a massive (by the town’s standards) affair that takes place every Tuesday and Saturday. There were several stalls selling haberdashery and trimmings, but only two that sold fabric. One had interiors fabric for a ludicrous 6 Eur/metre, made even more ludicrous by the fact that it was double width (about 280cm /110in wide). But – the man was impossibly rude. I waited patiently for my turn for about 15 minutes because, well, I have lived in Britain for the past ten years. And when it was my turn he deliberately chose to serve someone else, so I politely said goodbye and left. I do this on a regular basis whilst in Italy, because if people aren’t rude then the shopkeeper / stallholder will be, and they feed off each other’s rudeness. What is amusing is how this baffles both the proprietor of the business and the other customers. There are only two options in Italy for being ignored in a queue: a.

Rag Rug

Working on the rug. I am absolutely in love with it so far, even though I just had to undo about five rows because I skipped a few stitches on some of the ends. Didn’t want it to end up being a triangle. I think I’m going to give it to my sister to put in my old bathroom. I’m sure she took it over when I moved out. Plus I’ll kind of be there a lot so it’s going in “my” bathroom, only because I don’t think it will fly trying to put it in babes bathroom, not with these colors anyways.

Creative Brushstrokes

Ah Spring . . . time to plant gourds and watch them grow.  Mostly I grow birdhouse shaped gourds (though I don’t make birdhouses out of them), but this year I am trying some different varieties just for fun.  They take all summer to grow and most of the winter to dry, but they make a wonderful canvas and are fun to set around as decorative accents.  For the past several years I have entered gourds in our county fair and I am anxious to find out this year’s theme.  There are quite a few categories and lots that I can enter; however, coming up with new ideas is often difficult.  Do you have any ideas or suggestions?  I would love to hear them.  If you were going to paint a gourd “For Him” what would you put on it?  This preview has only one gourd of a Christmas Moose and several more floral designs.  If you get a chance, checkout  www.sites.google.com/site/emajique and let me know what you think. Thanks for stopping by. Click to view slideshow. Have a great day!

Fox girl cross stitch
fearless fresh

Last summer after I had back surgery, I spent several weeks in a recliner. I read a lot of books, did a ton of crossword puzzles, and I also started a cross stitch. As I searched Etsy for patterns, I happened upon this one of a fox girl. My sister, Lindsey, just happens to be marginally obsessed with foxes, and, well, she is a girl, so I thought she might like it. I changed the colors a bit to suit my own taste, and gave the girl black hair, to match Lindsey’s. I finished stitching months ago, but I have been fruitlessly searching for the perfect frame. I had something specific in mind, and of course couldn’t find it anywhere. Finally last week I decided that it was time to just get it done and give to her. It ended in a simple black frame with a red mat, to match her shoes. Fox Girl Cross Stitch Here is another fox gift I gave to Lindsey for her birthday a few years back.
