Solvent - "Loss For Words"
Solvent - "Loss For Words"
In Simeon Tennant's video for Solvent's single "Loss for Words" (from Subject to Shift, 2010), a pair of romantically entwined shapes watch helplessly as their relationship dissolves. Both the gray square and his fluffy, pink girlfriend seem at a "Loss for Words" as they drift into their respective solitudes. Tennant's lo-fi computer animation fits perfectly with Solvent's analog-synth pop melancholy, striking a touching balance between technology and emotion.

Solvent Links: solventcity.com, http More Synthpop: synthpoprevival.blogspot.com the night falls, the stars are bright i wish you were here tonight the clock stalls, the window draws me near the lights glow, a car goes by a star shoots across the sky i feel like the shadows on the wall the skyline engulfs the moon the silence fills up the room the chair sinks, i curl and fall asleep the sunlight opens my eyes the clouds speak, the trees advise it seems like i'm in another space i'm not alone i feel the same, but... the tears are gone i won't complain, or waste away i can't claim, i can't deduce i'm not plain or mass-produced it takes you to make sense of my ways the rain falls, the clouds are grey i wish you were here today the clock starts, i draw the window closed i'm not alone i feel the same, but.. the tears are gone i won't complain, or waste away

Solvent "RDJCS5-ep" promo [suction022]
Solvent "RDJCS5-ep" promo [suction022]
Artist: Solvent Title: RDJCS5-ep Label/Cat: Suction Records / suction022 Format: 4-song EP digital/lim.12" vinyl Release Date: Sept. 6, 2011 Occasionally one reads about some musical instrument with an illustrious past, Jimi Hendrix's guitar, John Lennon's piano, selling for exorbitant amounts of money at auction. And typically, that's the last of it, the instrument disappearing into some rich collector's display case, never to be heard from again. Here then, is a bit of a different story. In April 2006, a Yamaha CS5 monosynth, having been owned by Richard D James (Aphex Twin), with the actual liner notes for his landmark "Selected Ambient Works Volume II" etched into the bottom, was sold at VEMIA auction for approximately $1200 - a bargain in retrospect. The winning bidder was, in fact, a friend of Solvent's, and the synth resides not in a display case, but in Solvent's studio, on generous long-term loan. "RDJCS5", a new 4-track 12-inch / digital EP by Solvent, is the result. This is Suction022. Each and every sound on this record came from RDJ's old CS5, painstakingly programmed and multi-tracked by Solvent over the course of several months. The limited capabilities and sound palette of this humble little synth provided quite a challenge, but ultimately the results are not merely an exercise in technical synthnerdery; "RDJCS5" speaks more of Solvent's musical kinship to thee Analord. Opening track "Curtains" bears similarity to early Rephlex signing Bochum Welt, while ...

Solvent slow acid improv w/808, x0xb0x, Modcan, Doepfer Regelwerk,...
Hi - my name is Jason Amm and I release melodic electro(nica) music under the artist name Solvent, for labels including Ghostly International, Morr Music, and Suction Records. You can check my music via: solventcity.com myspace.com/solventcity I just wanted to get something uploaded for now, while I figure out how to use iMovie.... In the future I'll be uploading better videos, with audio from the mixer rather than the camera's built-in mic. I definitely have more-interesting tracks coming up... OK so here is a slow acid improv. The Doepfer Regelwerk is the master clock, and is sequencing the MAM ADX-1 (high hats) and Jomox MBase-01 (kick). The Regelwerk also has DIN-sync out, so that's how the 808 is being synced. x0xb0x sequencer is receiving Regel's MIDI-clock. The Modcan is strictly being used for processing some 808 sounds. BTW, the Modcan isn't mine, unfortunately! I had it on loan from a guy named Jeff, who makes really nice music under the name Minisystem (myspace.com/minisystem).

Dionex Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) 150 and 350 System Video
Dionex Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) 150 and 350 System Video
Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE®) is a patented technique for the extraction of solid and semisolid sample matrices using common solvents at elevated temperatures and pressures. ASE systems are available in the entry-level ASE 150 system, and fully automated ASE 350. Extractions that normally take hours can be done in minutes using ASE with pH hardened pathways using Dionium™ components. Compared to techniques such as Soxhlet and sonication, ASE generates results in a fraction of the time. The many steps involved in sample preparation can now be automated with ASE flow-through technology. Filtration and clean-up of solid samples can be achieved as part of the solvent extraction process in a single step. ASE offers a lower cost per sample than other techniques, reducing solvent consumption by up to 90%.
