We Object! Russia and China veto UN resolution on Syria
The United Nations Security Council has just voted on a draft resolution concerning the ongoing violence in Syria. Of the voting members, Russia and China were the only ones to vote against the draft, but as permanent members of the UNSC they both hold veto power, and the resolution has not been passed as a result. The news follows days of heated political debates in the UNSC, with many members supporting a Western-backed draft calling for foreign nations to put an end to what some called the "Syrian killing machine." Russia and China were the only permanent Security Council members opposing the draft, reminding others that it was not their place to intervene in another country's domestic affairs. Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin earlier said any proposals including an arms embargo or a demand for Assad's resignation would be vetoed. The Security Council meeting comes amid reports from Syria of a new crackdown in the city of Homs, with hundreds reportedly killed. But it's okay, you had a quiet word with him and the real David Cameron was back. Whatever happened to the veto? No more vetos anymore! Indeed Mr Cameron is now actively supporting this quite despicable pact, this plan to destroy and humiliate nation states that do not live up to a Germanic view of how economies ought to be run. Now, I must say I thought the weekend's proposals from the German Finance Ministry that came out, suggesting that a European Commissioner and his staff occupy a big building in Athens and take over the running of the country. - A gauleiter some may say, - I thought it must be a joke. Possibly even this EU could sink to those depths. But of course, it was just a negotiating position and what we've now got for Greece is ...

'Hysteria' over Russia veto after West jumps the gun at UN
Russia and China are facing a barrage of criticism from some Western and Arab states for their decision to block the latest UN resolution on Syria. Moscow has already dubbed the reaction 'hysterical', saying the resolution took a biased approach to resolving the civil conflict. RT's Sara Firth was in Syria when the diplomatic showdown began. Russia & China veto UN resolution on sanctions against Syria
Russia and China have vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Syria. The European-backed draft called on Damascus to end its crackdown on protesters, or face "targeted measures". But Moscow and Beijing said this could open the door to a Libya-style military intervention. RT's Marina Portnaya has the latest from New York. Russia defends UN Syria veto
Russia defends UN Syria veto
www.euronews.net Russia has defended its veto of a UN Security Council resolution on Syria, saying it contained no measures against armed opposition groups. Permanent members Russia and China blocked a condemnation of the government's crackdown on protesters. Both oppose regime change in Syria. The 13 other countries sitting on the Security Council backed the text and the vetos were widely criticised by the remaining three permanent members: France, Britain and the United States.

Political Call to Action: VETO AB962 in California!
UPDATE: Gov Schwarzenegger ignored the wishes of California voters and signed AB22 anyway. The CA political scene is in dire straits. Work to defeat him next election; put in a REAL conservative. ///////////// MY PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL/FAX FOLLOWS. IT WILL HAVE MORE POWER IF YOU MODIFY IT OR WRITE YOUR OWN. WHATEVER YOU DO THOUGH, DO WRITE! /// Governor Schwarzenegger: /// I highly encourage you to VETO Assembly Bill 962 (and SB585) which are on your desk. AB962 is onerous gun control legislation that further harasses gun owners in California. Outlawing mail order ammunition purchasing, requiring in- person sales by state-trained employees, and keeping detailed personal information (to include thumb printing!) on the buyers will do nothing to increase public safety in California. Instead it creates another layer of bureaucracy that abrogates citizen privacy in the name of gun owner harassment. It is also an infringement of Second Amendment rights that could be subject to expensive but ultimately effective legal challenge. Over twenty years ago, Congress abolished similar requirements because ammunition sales records were found to be useless for solving crimes. Moreover it will have many unintended consequences such as increased difficulty in acquiring ammunition for law enforcement offices and providing a possible database that criminals could use to steal firearms from the residences of their owners. Also please VETO SB585, another unneeded piece of legislation which further ...

US vetoes UN resolution on Israeli settlements
US vetoes UN resolution on Israeli settlements
Despite receiving the backing of 14 out of 15 members of the United Nations' security council, an Arab-sponsored UN resolution branding Israeli settlements illegal was vetoed by the United States. Instead, the US defended a weaker, non-binding presidential statement that effectively rejects the legitimacy of Israel's settlements. Al Jazeera spoke with Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the United Nations, about the Obama administration's first veto casted in the United Nations security council.
