Tel Aviv Stock Exchange

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE; Hebrew: הבורסה לניירות ערך בתל אביב; colloquially known as The Bursa or הבורסה) in Tel Aviv is Israel's only public stock exchange.
TASE plays a major role in the Israeli economy. TASE lists some 473 companies, about 47 of which are also listed on stock exchanges in other countries. TASE also lists some 180 exchange-traded funds (ETFs), 60 government bonds, 500 corporate bonds, 591 Exchange traded notes (ETN's)
and more than 1000 mutual funds.
In 2009, the trading day was set at 9:30 AM–4:30 PM. At a news conference in December 2012, CEO Ester Levanon announced that trading would be extended by an hour to bring working hours closer to those of the European market. Since June 2013, the trading day has been 9:30 AM–4:30 PM on Sundays and 9:30 AM–5:30 PM Monday to Thursday.
History
The precursor to the TASE was the Exchange Bureau for Securities, founded by the Anglo-Palestine Bank (which became Bank Leumi) in 1935. With rapid growth of the Israeli economy after the founding of the state, a formal stock exchange was incorporated and began operations in Tel Aviv in 1953. In 1983 the exchange moved to Ahad Ha'am Street in Tel Aviv, where it remained for over 30 years, until it moved to its current location in 2014.

Bodycam video shows a police officer tasing a woman who was accused of stealing from a Publix grocery store in Jacksonville, Florida on February 4, 2020. An employee called the police saying they believed that the woman stole from the grocery store. Upon arrival, the woman told the officer that she had a receipt but refused to show him and accused employees of racially profiling her. After questioning the woman multiple times, the officer stated he was going to arrest and tase her, which he did shortly after. Following her arrest, the officer found the receipt that proved she rightfully purchased the goods. The woman later sued Publix for $50,000 in damages. An employee told police that 52-year-old Zette Lea Madden had approached the business on foot and used the tire iron to smash the drive-thru menu display. The woman then broke out the drive-thru window with the tool before breaking the glass on both entry doors and entering the business.
Employees stated that Madden came behind the counter and destroyed the cash registers while telling them to give her money. When officers arrived on scene they found Madden inside the business holding the tire iron. She allegedly began thrusting the tool in "short, stabbing motions" when the officer told her to drop the item. The officer began to fear for the safety of the employees still inside the business and deployed his taser, subduing the woman. She was then taken into custody. Employees reportedly told police that Madden lives in a vehicle behind a nearby club and that they had trouble with her stealing soda from the fountain in the past.

Upon arriving at the location, the officers encountered the suspect, John Penny, who was initially armed with a glass bottle. Penny refused to drop the bottle and approached officers. The officers deployed a taser, however it appears the darts did not strike Penny. Penny then armed himself with a three-foot-long wooden plank and again approached the officers, which resulted in an Officer-Involved- Shooting. Penny was struck once in the left arm and once in the left thigh. The officers also deployed one round from a beanbag shotgun and one 40mm round.
Penny was treated at scene by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and then transported via Rescue Ambulance (RA) to UCLA Westwood Medical Center, where he was treated and cleared for booking. No officers were injured during the incident. A three-foot wooden plank was recovered at scene. Force Investigation Division (FID) responded and is handling the administrative investigation and the FID Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) is conducting the criminal investigation. LAPD's specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. Representatives from the Office of the Inspector General and Los Angeles County District Attorney's Justice System Integrity Division responded and monitored the investigation.

TASE has 544 businesses listed, 56 of which are also listed on other stock exchanges.
TASE also has over 1000 mutual funds, 180 exchange-traded funds (ETFs), 60 government bonds, 500 corporate bonds, 591 exchange-traded notes (ETNs), and 180 exchange-traded funds (ETFs). These are all denominated in Israeli shekels.

After the United States, it boasts the world’s second-largest number of startup businesses and the third-largest number of NASDAQ-listed companies after the United States and China.

Police have released body camera footage that shows an officer subduing a woman that smashed up a metro Taco Bell with a tire iron. The footage, released Feb. 1, shows the moments an Oklahoma City Police Department officer arrives on scene early Jan. 30 at Taco Bell, 2608 S. I-35 Service Road. Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday police received a call that a woman was breaking windows and chasing employees with a tire iron at the business. An employee told police that 52-year-old Zette Lea Madden had approached the business on foot and used the tire iron to smash the drive-thru menu display. The woman then broke out the drive-thru window with the tool before breaking the glass on both entry doors and entering the business.
Employees stated that Madden came behind the counter and destroyed the cash registers while telling them to give her money. When officers arrived on scene they found Madden inside the business holding the tire iron. She allegedly began thrusting the tool in "short, stabbing motions" when the officer told her to drop the item. The officer began to fear for the safety of the employees still inside the business and deployed his taser, subduing the woman. She was then taken into custody. Employees reportedly told police that Madden lives in a vehicle behind a nearby club and that they had trouble with her stealing soda from the fountain in the past.

Bodycam video shows a police officer tasing a woman who was accused of stealing from a Publix grocery store in Jacksonville, Florida on February 4, 2020. An employee called the police saying they believed that the woman stole from the grocery store. Upon arrival, the woman told the officer that she had a receipt but refused to show him and accused employees of racially profiling her. After questioning the woman multiple times, the officer stated he was going to arrest and tase her, which he did shortly after. Following her arrest, the officer found the receipt that proved she rightfully purchased the goods. The woman later sued Publix for $50,000 in damages. The case was dismissed with prejudice by a Duval County Florida judge in December 2021.

On August 14, 2019, around 5:50 p.m., uniformed officers assigned to Pacific Patrol Division responded to a radio call of a screaming man at Thornton Court and Pacific Avenue. Upon arriving at the location, the officers encountered the suspect, John Penny, who was initially armed with a glass bottle. Penny refused to drop the bottle and approached officers. The officers deployed a taser, however it appears the darts did not strike Penny. Penny then armed himself with a three-foot-long wooden plank and again approached the officers, which resulted in an Officer-Involved- Shooting. Penny was struck once in the left arm and once in the left thigh. The officers also deployed one round from a beanbag shotgun and one 40mm round.
Penny was treated at scene by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and then transported via Rescue Ambulance (RA) to UCLA Westwood Medical Center, where he was treated and cleared for booking. No officers were injured during the incident. A three-foot wooden plank was recovered at scene. Force Investigation Division (FID) responded and is handling the administrative investigation and the FID Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) is conducting the criminal investigation. LAPD's specialized Force Investigation Division responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. Representatives from the Office of the Inspector General and Los Angeles County District Attorney's Justice System Integrity Division responded and monitored the investigation.

This will be the first in a series of videos focused on the tech and innovation hub that is Israel.
This story starts not in 1953, the official founding year of the TASE, but twelve years earlier. The 1930s witnessed an influx of Jewish bankers fleeing Nazi persecution. These financiers, with their expertise, laid the groundwork for an additional global securities market. In 1935, within the walls of the then Anglo-Palestine Bank (today's Bank Leumi), the "Exchange Bureau for Securities'' was born. Here, for a mere hour each day, trading of securities took place – a small seed from which the TASE would sprout.
The Birth of the TASE and its Rise
Following Israel's independence in 1948, the need for a formalized securities market became evident. In 1953, investment houses and banks joined forces to establish the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Initially, trading continued at Bank Leumi before moving to its own building in 1960. The exchange witnessed steady growth, and by 1992, the TA-25 index, a benchmark for the 25 largest companies on the TASE, was launched.
Technological Transformation and Milestones
The TASE fully embraced technological advancements. By 1999, a fully electronic trading system replaced the traditional open outcry method. This move towards efficiency coincided with another milestone: the year 2000 saw the introduction of dual listings and exchange-traded notes (ETNs). The exchange continued to evolve, finding a new home on Ahuzat Bayit Street in 2014, a space equipped to handle the demands of the modern financial world.
Like any market, TASE face challenges. Economic downturns, geopolitical tensions, wars (obviously) and periods of volatility tested its resilience. However, each challenge was met with innovation and adaptation. TASE continues to evolve its regulatory framework, financial instruments, and investor protections, ensuring stability and investor confidence.
Key Companies and Personalities
The TASE boasts a diverse range of companies, from established giants like Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and banks like the Israel Discount Bank to innovative startups in the high-tech sector. In total, the companies listed on the TASE have a market cap of more than $210 billion dollars.
In recent decades, TASE embraced globalization. It attracted international listings, formed strategic partnerships with global exchanges, and diversified its financial products. This integration not only strengthened TASE's position but also enhanced Israel's economic ties with the world, fostering investment and economic growth.

It's obviously impossible to name all the prominent figures, but one we have to talk about is Mordechai Pinchas Hasson, an early advocate for the exchange,who deserves recognition. As CEO of Bank Leum, one of the biggest banks in Israel and the founder of the "Exchange Bureau for Securities," his vision played a crucial role in creating the modern stock exchange we have today.
Today, the TASE stands tall as a symbol of Israeli financial strength. It serves as a platform for companies to raise capital, promotes economic activity, and fosters a culture of investment. As Israel continues to grow, the TASE is certain to evolve alongside it, remaining a cornerstone of the nation's financial landscape.

Israel’s only public stock market is the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE).
The Israel Securities Authority is in charge of overseeing the exchange, which is governed by the Securities Law of 1968. (ISA). TASE is an important part of the Israeli economy.
TASE has 544 businesses listed, 56 of which are also listed on other stock exchanges.
TASE also has over 1000 mutual funds, 180 exchange-traded funds (ETFs), 60 government bonds, 500 corporate bonds, 591 exchange-traded notes (ETNs), and 180 exchange-traded funds (ETFs). These are all denominated in Israeli shekels.
The Israeli economy
Israel’s economy is a well-developed free-market economy. On the World Bank’s ease of doing business index, Israel is ranked 35th.
After the United States, it boasts the world’s second-largest number of startup businesses and the third-largest number of NASDAQ-listed companies after the United States and China.
Intel, Microsoft, and Apple established their first foreign research and development facilities in Israel, and other high-tech multinational businesses such as IBM, Google, HP, Cisco Systems, Facebook, and Motorola all established R&D; centers there.
The country’s main economic sectors are technology and industrial production; the Israeli diamond industry, which accounts for 23.2 percent of all exports, is one of the world’s leading centers for diamond cutting and polishing.
With a scarcity of natural resources, Israel relies on imports of petroleum, raw materials, wheat, automobiles, uncut diamonds, and production inputs.
However, recent discoveries of natural gas reserves off its coast, on the one hand, and the leading role of Israel’s solar energy industry, on the other, may change the country’s near-total reliance on energy imports in the future.
Quality university education and the creation of a highly motivated and educated population are mainly to blame for Israel’s high-tech boom and fast economic development by regional standards.
