Europa Barbarorum Romani Campaign #11: Invasion of Gaul Part I
The Summer of 63 BC. Time to bring the full might of the Res Publica against Gaul. Included is a river battle where my psycopathic Romans destroy an Aedui army. This series is a campaign "summary" as doing a full Chronicle would be insanely long. Showcased in the future will be the invasions of Gaul, Britannia, Germany, and the end of the campaign in Dacia and Syria. The game is played on VH/M difficulty setting as recommended by the EB team. Remember that if you decide to play EB, ALWAYS activate the background script everytime you load a savegame. 720p HD is available. DISCLAIMER: Remember that this is the internet. Do not take my historical info for granted as it could very well be wrong.

Bibracte oppidum in Gaul
Scene from the movie Vercingétorix (2001) Bibracte, a Gaulish oppidum or fortified city, was the capital of the Aedui and one of the most important hillforts in Gaul. It was situated near modern Autun in Burgundy, France. The material culture of the Aedui corresponded to the Late Iron Age La Tène culture, In 58 BC, at the Battle of Bibracte, Julius Caesar's armies defeated the Helvetii 16 miles south of the fort. In 52 BC, at Bibracte Vercingetorix was proclaimed head of the Gaulish coalition. Again at Bibracte Julius Caesar, the victor at the battle of Alesia, completed dictating his Gallic Wars. A few decades after the Roman conquest of Gaul, Bibracte was abandoned in favour of Autun, 25 kilometres distant. Without a continuous settlement to disturb or efface the site, Bibracte remained for modern archaeology to rediscover. The first excavations were begun at the site by the wine merchant Gabriel Bulliot between 1867 and 1895. His nephew Joseph Déchelette, author of a famous Manuel d'Archéologie continued the excavations between 1897 and 1907 Today Mont Beuvray is generally credited as the ancient Bibracte. The site straddles the borders of the French départements of Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire in Burgundy. The site is an archaeological park at the centre of a protected forest, and a site of cooperative European archaeological efforts, a training ground for young archaeologists as well as a centre for interpreting Gaulish culture for a popular audience. The Gallic Wars (Book 1 - Chapter 3)
Episode three of the Gallic wars series covers Ariovistus and the Preliminary Moves made by Ariovistus and Caesar. Ariovistus was a Germanic leader and had migrated with many Germanic tribesmen into Gaul at the request of the Sequani in order to help defeat the Aedui. The Germans then proceeded to settle and take large areas of Sequani land for themselves. The Gauls then joined together and requested that Caesar help them drive Ariovistus from Gaul. This series is based on the account of Julius Caesar, it is intended to be a Roman view of the Gallic wars; not a definitive analysis of them.

Alesia Gaulish Oppidum
Scene from the movie Vercingétorix (2001) Alesia was the capital of the Mandubii, one of the Gaulish tribes allied with the mighty Aedui, and after Julius Caesar's conquest a Roman town (Oppidum) in Gaul. There have been archeological excavations since the time of Napoléon III in Alise-Sainte-Reine in Côte d'Or near Dijon, which have claimed that the historical Alesia is located there. New discoveries are constantly being made about this Gallo-Roman settlement on the plateau of Mont-Auxois. As a result of the latest excavation, a find was presented to the museum there with the inscription: IN ALISIIA, which finally dispelled the doubts of some archeologists on the town's identity. Time Commanders The Battle of Bibracte Part 5th of 6
The Battle of Bibracte was fought between the Helvetii and six Roman legions, under the command of Gaius Julius Caesar. It was the second major battle of the Gallic Wars. After following the migration of the Helvetii and defeating them, Caesar, around 20 June, moved towards Bibracte, (approximately 18 miles away from their camp) to obtain the supplies promised by his allies, the Aedui. Informed by deserters of Lucius Æmilius commander of the cavalry the Helvetii took this occasion to turn and harass Cæsar's rear guard. When Cæsar observed this he sent his cavalry to delay the attack. He in the interim surmounted a near-by hill and set up placed the Seventh (Legio VII Claudia), Eighth (Legio VIII Augusta), Ninth (Legio IX Hispana), and Tenth legions (Legio X Equestris), organized in the Roman fashion (triplex acies), near the bottom of the slope. He did this so he could collect the Eleventh (Legio XI Claudia) and Twelfth (Legio XII Fulminata) Legions and all his auxiliaries at the summit. Also while this was going on he ordered the baggage train assembled in one location and ordered the men assembled at the summit to guard them. The Helvetii then having driven off Cæsars cavalry and having secured their baggage train engaged "In the seventh hour" approximately noon or one o'clock. According to Cæsar his battle line situated on the hill easily routed the Helvetii assault by using pila (javelins) at about 10 to 15 yards. Cæsars forces then went on the offensive assaulting ...
